Kevin Burns vs. TJ Grant at UFC 107
Two UFC welterweights may be fighting for relevance when UFC 107 hits Memphis on December 12th. MMA Junkie reports that Kevin Burns and TJ Grant have agreed to face off on that card:
MMANews.com recently announced the addition of a welterweight bout between Kevin Burns (7-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) and T.J. Grant (14-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) to the UFC 107 schedule, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has since been able to confirm the two have verbally agreed to the contest
After bursting onto the scene with a surprise submission win over BJJ ace Roan Carneiro, Kevin Burns has seen his stock fall dramatically, starting with the controversial TKO-via-eyepoke win over Anthony Johnson, and his brutal knockout loss in the rematch. Earlier in the summer at the TUF 9 Finale, Burns again found himself with an "L" after getting picked apart and bloodied by Chris Lytle in a decision loss. Now looking to stop the skid, the well-rounded Iowa native hopes to bring himself above .500 with a win against Grant in Memphis.
A highly touted submission specialist from the Canadian Maritimes, TJ Grant entered the UFC after submitting veterans like Chad Reiner and Forrest Petz, and certainly made a statement by taking a split decision against the always-tough Ryo Chonan at UFC 97. After rumored bouts with Rory Markham and Martin Kampmann fell through, Grant stepped into the Octagon against judoka Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 100, where the Korean stifled Grant's submission game on the ground and peppered him with ground-and-pound for a clear-cut unanimous decision win. After the first loss in his last six fights, Grant will now look to redeem himself in December.
The current rumored card for UFC 107 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee now includes:
BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez - lightweight championship
Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida
Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo
Thiago Alves vs. Paulo Thiago
Alan Belcher vs. Wilson Gouveia
Kevin Burns vs. TJ Grant
Todd Duffee vs. TBA

With two losses in a row, I am surprised that Burns hasn’t been cut.

2-2 isn’t a horrible record even if one win was a gift, plus Burns put on a decent fight with Lytle. However this will probably be the last we see of the loser in the UFC for some time.
