Bas Boon, Alistair Overeem's manager and head of Golden Glory considers breaking with Strikeforce now that M-1 has entered into a co-promotion?:
"It hasn't escaped my notice that we are dealing with a bunch of crooks who wish to brand their name onto someone who has managed to build up a successful organization on his own with a good network deal."
"Our deal with Strikeforce was made before this bunch of robbers came along, but now we were planning on asking our money in advance. In fact, I see this as the ideal opportunity to say no to the contract that was signed earlier; we don't want to fight on any M-mini Cons & co promotions."
"Is this the same organization that let Tommy Depret fly to America for nothing without having the decency to phone him to let him know it was cancelled?"
"I wonder what happens if Fedor loses a couple of times, or can't fight due to circumstances, to all those enforced `Co-Promotions` that do not benefit the fighters in any way."

Bas Boon has talked about it before
Bas Boon on M-1 and the fall of PRIDE
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
Yep.
Boon HATES Appy & the Fink.
The ultimate ‘fuck you’ to those guys would be for Alistair to sign a nice fat deal with the UFC.
Can you imagine AO losing his first fight?
To the casual fan, it would discredit the entire SF division

really?
They have Fedor.. they’ll just strip AO, give fedor the belt, and say he’s the best evah.. and everything stays the same.

LOL
Right, because AO is the best HW they currently have. Oh no, wait, they have that Fedor guy.

Right...
but were he to not fight Fedor…then Fedor wouldn’t have beaten the SF champ…but whoever in the UFC would have. It’s an easy angle to play

They know who strikeforce is
And the UFC says “The Strikeforce HW champ came to the UFC and was demolished by one of our heavyweights.”
They can even pull some bs MMA math: the champion is supposed to be the best of the division, the champion lost to the UFC HW, and therefore the rest of the division looks weak compared to the UFC. Then, Fedor gets the title by running through this weak division, so how good is he really?
Is it right? Of course not, but it’s an EASY spin that would be pretty effective to most people
It would be just as easy for Strikeforce to claim that AO fled to the UFC because he didn’t want to fight Fedor. I think it’ll be a push.
Not really
Because no casual fan in the world ever hears what Strikeforce says.
They watch spike and UFC PPVs. They get the UFC spin. They won’t even be listening when Scott Coker announces to a press conference of 12 MMA websties that Overeem is scared.
The UFC dictates the public discussion and nobody else, basically. The UFC will give their POV and that’s the only POV the casual fan will hear.

Strikeforce seems to enjoy writing bad press releases throwing people who leave their organization under the bus.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
Dana is successful, and thus is the guy it is cool to hate on. The recent Strikeforce press releases trashing Baroni and Buentello have just been sad and amateur. As someone mentioned, throwing leaving fighters under the bus is pretty standard, but you don’t usually throw your own division under the bus at the same time.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
Bas Boon is a legend in dutch mauy thai and mma. He has been around since the beginning, and I believe might have been one of Bas Rutten’s first trainers as well. He has been on inside mma a few times and seems like a cool guy and very intelligent. These comments are very interesting and it will be interesting to see if he can get Overeem out of his contract or if its a ploy to get more money.

Alistair doesn’t seem too keen on MMA in the states—- I mean, he didn’t have any contract at all, if he is to be believed, for a long time. If he’d wanted into the UFC he would have gone.
The contract they signed with Strikeforce was signed before they got Fedor—- so I’d think AO wants a bigger payday than he signed on for when he thought he’d be fighting Werdum or Rogers.
It was a joke. Fink and Boon have a history together and both groups use to work together.

Boon used to manage Fedor along with Finkelstin and Etcheld. Here’s the whole story: http://www.fightopinion.com/2007/12/27/bas-boon-speaks-out-about-pride/

Interesting quote:
" hopefully M-1 will still succeed in becoming a real MMA force as we need a professional good MMA organisation! Fedor is not to blame and Vadim is a good business man (but ingnored who really made the deal and did the owrk), Fedor is a machine who performed as a real champion. It’s a shame that because of a language problem, he maybe understand 10% of what happened to him."
Enough ammo in there for everybody to work with.
One thing to consider: Vadim (Fedor’s manager) has worked with Pride, Bodog, M-1 USA (the company that he made with Monte Cox) and Affliction.
Of those 4 companies, only the relationship with Affliction ended on good terms. Each of the others had a fairly negative falling out with him.
It does not surprise me to see these comments. I would also guess that Bas does not like the idea of another manager having a greater say in a card featuring his fighter.
If Overeem/Fedor were to happen, Fedor’s manager is a co-promoter…I can see why that would rub a guy that wrong way.
