Bas Rutten Responds to Kimbo Slice: "To Blame the People Who Trained him, Very Loser Thing to do"
Earlier this week, Kimbo Slice made a few statements on his former trainer, Bas Rutten. After reading this, Bas Rutten sent an email to Fighters Only in order to give his side of the story:
I never said "I tried to teach you stuff but its not working", I don’t say the word "stuff" when I mean skills or technique, I said, I try to teach you skills but you are not listening. Example... the last fight he had against Petruzelli, first line in the game plan? "DO NOT rush in!"
...
Pretending to be a friend and getting paid GOOD for my work? Ha ha, OK, lets see here. I couldn’t train him two times a day so I told my buddy at my gym, Randy Khatami, who’s a great boxing coach and also teaches some basic submissions, that I would take him in the morning, and he would take him at night... I just pay him half of what I make.
Lets do the math here, 10% of 100,000, is $10,000, that I split in half, so I make $5000 in 5 or 6 weeks. I also told him BEFORE I started training him, that he had to understand that when I had a commentary job, that I had to do that, since this was not a "money making machine for me"... Since I believed in him, and considered him a friend, I said NO to a whole bunch of commentary jobs because I wanted to be there for him for the entire time. Meaning, I actually LOST money training Kimbo. Well, actually, with the last fight (because they re-negotiated), I think I evened it out, but never made money.
...
If Kimbo would have done everything that he did in the beginning when he came in, he had great potential. To now blame that on the people who trained him, very loser thing to do. And if it was so bad, why is he still with Randy Khatami? He trains him in the style as I do because I told him so. See what I mean? He makes no sense.

LOL at Bas
Getting bent out of shape at Kimbo FINALLY responding to Rutten’s repeated muckraking to the press.
If Bas had taken the high road in the first place, this rebuttal would not have been necessary. Kimbo only responded because Bas has repeatedly blasted him in the press. It was bad enough when Bas trashed him after the Petruzelli loss, but when Bas blasted him again nearly a year later when it was announced that Kimbo would be on TUF, it became clear that Bas is petty and vindictive. Rutten is acting like a jilted teenage girl. Why else would he feel the need to come out and crap all over the guy AGAIN just as he is getting his career back together?
Does Greg Jackson trash guys who leave his gym? Does Bob Cook? Or Pat Miletich? Of course not. Those guys are pros. They don’t get their panties in a knot whenever a relationship goes sour. They just move on and go about their business. Bas could take a lesson from those guys.

He did nothing of the sort.
He said that he had no idea what Drew was talking about and that Drew needed to come in and hash things out with the team before he would be allowed back. He didn’t trash the guy and even left the door open for him to return. That’s what professionals do. They handle beefs behind closed doors and keep it within the family. They don’t drag former students through the mud.

well i don’t think kicking him out was the right thing to do anyway, but i understand what you’re saying about bas and kimbo

He didn’t kick him out.
He said he was welcome to come back as long as he sat down and explained himself. Drew chose to go another direction and Pat wished him well.

Man
The only thing that saved this in my head is Bas’s goofy voice, because it’s pretty over-the-top if you just read it. Especially considering the circumstances of both men’s comments.
Kimbo is told by an interviewer that Bas Rutten says he sucks, he’s an asshole, etc. They ask him for his thoughts, he answers briefly, makes a quick joke, and gives an “It’s all good.”
Bas Rutten hears about this, runs to his computer, and types up an enormous rebuttal that argues everything, down to the words he used in a statement Kimbo didn’t even hear directly.
It feels weird to be gaining respect for Kimbo Slice while losing respect for Bas Rutten. Don’t think I would have believed this a year ago.

Weird to see everyone crapping on Bas.
He’s pretty much saying what I was thinking when I heard Kimbo’s comments. Who blames their trainers when they lose? Really, how many other people can you think of? Very few come to my mind, and they’re generally very pathetic individuals.
I will say, though, it seems out of character. Kimbo usually seems fairly down to earth and reasonable.

Agreed on both sides
My guess is that the two guys just had a disagreement, and it gets blown out of proportion now.

Perhaps some people feel that it’s Bas who was out of line, not Kimbo. I mean whether Kimbo blamed his trainers or not isn’t the point here, Fibbus. The point is that Bas chose to regurgitate his petty grievances against Kimbo once he saw that Kimbo was trying to get back into the fighting business instead of just letting sleeping dogs lie. Seems to me that Bas is the real bitch here.
Kimbo has shown nothing but class since he started being associated with UFC. Anything else he has done prior, has no bearing and is meaningless at this point.
