JEWELS: Fifth Ring Results

119-pound Rough Stone GP participants "Amiba," Nagano and Tomita

Results are in for Sunday's JEWELS event at Shinjuku Face, and it looks like there were more than a few upsets on the evening. Foremost amongst the surprises: the "Face of JEWELS," Shizuka Sugiyama, suffered her first loss as she was eliminated in the opening round of the 60kg Rough Stone Grand Prix by German import Alexandra Sanchez, who took a unanimous decision.

In another tournament upset, the debuting Yuko Kagoshima took a dehydrated Yuko "Amiba" Oya out of the 119-pound bracket after "Amiba" needed two tries to make weight yesterday.

The main event saw Seo Hee Ham upset Misaki Takimoto despite Ham having only arrived from Korea late on Saturday and missing the weigh-in.

Just about the only predictable result was Mika Nagano defeating Rina Tomita for the second time in three months. Their first bout ended when Nagano secured a second round armbar; this time she needed only 2 minutes and 25 seconds.

Thanks.

I really like JEWELS. Good solid cards. They may not be the best but the fights are pretty good.
