Loretta Hunt: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Will Debut Against Luis Cane at UFC 106 (Updated)
Loretta Hunt reports that UFC 105 will feature a battle of Brazilians when Antonio Rogerio Nogueira faces Luis Arthur Cane:
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is set to make his Octagon debut against Luis Arthur Cane in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 105 on Nov. 14 in Manchester, England, according to multiple sources close to the negotiations.
Sources have said the Brazilian pair have verbally agreed to the bout and are awaiting bout agreements.
This should be a very good fight between two top 10 fighters. No word on whether this is actually the main event for the show, but it should be an interesting standup war between two technical southpaw strikers. Cane tends to be the more aggressive of the two, while Nogueira generally likes to counter his opponents on their way in.
This should be a big test for Nogueira, who hasn't fought a top opponent since his win over Alistair Overeem in 2006. At the same time, scheduling fights for Nogueira in the light heavyweight division is tricky, because he is unwilling to fight the champion of the division, Lyoto Machida.
Update: Bad news for UK fans (again), this fight will actually be on UFC 106.

I have never seen Lil Nog
fight before, but the idea of him facing Cane scares me for him.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
could be a replay of Soko vs Lil Nog i think..

oh man
you have to see Little Nog’s war with Shogun. He lost but it was very very close and is one of my all time favorite fights. His win over Dan Henderson is another great bout.

i know, im not knocking the newer mma fans, but i dont get how you cant see one fight of lil nogs! hes been in alot of great wars and the nogs to me are 2 of the best all time fighters in mma.
I’m so happy that Cane finally has a fight set. I love watching this guy brawl.

Rumored card so far: [Free on SPIKE]
- Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Luis Cane (main event could be Dan Henderson vs. Nate Marquart)
- Denis Kang -145 vs. Michael Bisping 115
- Dan Hardy -145 vs. Dong Hyun Kim 115
- James Wilks vs. Matt Brown
- John Hathaway vs. Paul Taylor
- Terry Etim vs. Shannon Gugerty
- Ross Pearson vs. Aaron Riley
- Nick Osipczak vs. Matt Riddle
- DaMarques Johnson vs. Peter Sobotta
- Andre Winner vs. Roli Delgado
- Jared Hamman vs. Alexander Gustaffson
What an evenly matched fight- I’m verrrry content with this a free main event.
What’s the good word with Cane’s ground game? Has he been on his back, or even on the ground at all in the UFC? I feel like I’ve only seen em’ stand and trade.
"He hit like a bitch."

The main card could end up looking like this..
Dan Henderson vs Nate Marquardt
Lil Nog vs Luis Cane
Michael Bisping vs Denis Kang
Dan Hardy vs The Dong
James Wilkes vs Matt Brown

there will be 6 fights on this card
Ross Pearson will NOT be on the undercard. No Title fight = 6 live fights./
Maybe he will be but think, Ryan Bader is on the undercard of a UFC 104 card that has Josh Neer vs Gleison Tibau on the main card.
by SouthAlaBamaRampage on Sep 11, 2009 4:52 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah
But I think since Tibau was already scheduled to be on the main card, with sponsorships and things like that, I dont think the UFC could move him down to the undercard

true
I completely forgot that one was free
UFC 70 for a free card was pretty big
I hope we get some quick fights on the main card so we see Paul Kelly and Paul Taylor fight. :D

yeah solid card… look back at that lineup, damn. though i guess kongo, machida, and bisping weren’t as big names back then as they are now. still, good call on 70.
That was by accident...it was supposed to be an HBO card
The UFC 75 card was the biggest free fight card to date.

Not to mention at 70
Machidas fight wasnt even shown on the Spike version on on the PPV
Fight wasn't exciting apparently
So they aired the Etim fight instead.

Does Lil Nog still have it?
This will be his first true test since losing to Sokodjou 2 and a half years ago.
Will be interesting to see if he can get the win.
As for Cane another huge test and if he can get by Lil’ Nog he only needs big opponents.
Spoke with Hendo’s camp — Marquardt fight at UFC 105 far from locked as Henderson negotiates new contract with UFC first.
- Loretta Hunt
They need to shove a lot of money in Hendos face and make him take this fight

no love for matyushenko?
maybe he’s not a top 5 guy, but nog’s fight against vlad was a pretty solid opponent i thought.
saying he hasn’t fought anyone tough in years is a little too much i think…
I didnt say he hadnt fought anybody tough
I said he hadnt had a true test. Sure Vlad is a tough guy but not exactly a top ranked
BE has him ranked 19th.Plus he is 38 so yeah fighting him isnt easy but it’s not like fighting a top 10 guy.
I just think Luis Cane is a very tough oppenent.
true true… wasn’t directly picking on your post, just the general tone of the thread, wanted to give vlady some love
the janitor says “you can hop on and show me love any day” …. woah easy does it vlad

great fight imo! i think cane is good but rogerio has been in fight with guys like him. pace pusher, big, strong, good jits, solid muay thai… i think cane deserves to be an under dog but i could see him getting a decision if rogerio is not well prepared. although i doubt he will come in unprepared im taking nog by submission
I think the Cantwell fight is instructive, because we got to see 15 minutes of Cane.
What I got from that is he has flashes of brilliance, but he also has hot and cold streaks within the fight. He’s also a momentum fighter, and doesn’t necessarily have the best gas tank. He also wasn’t able to put Cantwell away despite landing lots of clean shots right on the chin.
Cane’s problem, for me, is he allows himself to get hit way too much. I think Nog should win this fight by surviving the early storm and taking a TKO late.

Antônio Rogério Nogueira
Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira
Time for the casual fans to get really confused.
Keep firing Assholes!
Protect your caterpillar from Kimbo Slice.
Portuguese is my native tongue
and I get confused. They should just lose the Antônio when referring to them.

Ugh. No. That would add to the confusion.
Just call them Rogerio and Rodrigo. It’s what I do.

I’m talking about the common fans here. They’d get even more confused. Antonio Minotoro Nogueira and Antonio Minotauro Nogueira. You don’t see the confusion that could bring about? It’s all in the pronunciation. That’s why I just refer to them as Rodrigo Nogueira and Rogerio Nogueira. Makes life 1000 times easier.
http://twitter.com/FlyByKnite
I see no particular reason to favor Luis Cane in this. Rogerio has a huge edge in experience—he’s been in there with the TK, Guy Mezger, Sakuraba, Overeem, Dan Henderson, and Shogun, and he beat every one of those but the last. And while the Sokoudjou loss was bad, and his competition since hasn’t been great, he doesn’t look like he’s lost a step. Although Cane will be the best guy he’s fought in a while, Rogerio still spars with the likes of Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida. I think he’ll be fine.
Interesting side note: though Rogerio isn’t as known for taking crazy damage in his fights like Minotauro, he looks just as old and beat up. Perhaps that’s just the Nogeueira way.
LOL
At the update:
Update: Bad news for UK fans (again), this fight will actually be on UFC 106.
UK fans get singled out all the time. Really though, that sucks for them. Hopefully this means that Nate vs Hendo will happen at 105, but I have my doubts.
I'm totally convinced we're looking at a Bisping/Kang main event

On a completely different note
UFC 106 is one of the most stacked PPV cards in history.
