i posted that earlier haha…
“[MMA looks like] Guys rolling around like homosexuals on the ground… MMA is garbage and Junk.. UFC fans are a bunch of skinhead white guys.”
“Mexicans, Filipinos and Blacks [won’t buy MMA]”
really now..

Helwani is one of the best interviewers going. I’m impressed how he stood his ground and kept on the issue.
All in all, Arum said things that I laughed at, even though I should not, but it was ridiculous.
I’m positive Arum last watched MMA in the late 90s.
Were there homosexuals rolling around on the ground in teh 1990s?
This shirt is "dry clean only", which means it's dirty.
Dana white can get criticized for throwing around the word “faggot” but Bob Arum won’t ever catch heat for the broad generalization that you have to be gay to “roll around on the ground”.
I hope when this guy is sitting in the nursing home, some MMA fan/nurse with a sense of humor “forgets” to change his diaper for a few days.

Let me also applaud Ariel for his “I take offence to that, I’m a UFC fan and I’m a jew.” line…way to shove it back in his face.

He generalized what Filipinos think also..
It couldn’t have been farther from the truth.. Just cause Filipinos love Manny, doesn’t mean they don’t like MMA..

Not to mention he sat there and said the UFC was lying about the PPV numbers. Please…if that was true, someone would have blew that story up a long time ago.
And him saying that only white people buy MMA fights is just idiotic. This isn’t the 90’s…
If Bob Abrum is coorect, then the next season of the Ultimate Fighter will flop, because “skin-headed white people” will not buy a show with two black coaches and Kimbo slice.
I can’t stand people who live in a bubble and think it’s reality…

Um, I don’t think he said you HAVE to be gay to roll around on the ground. I think he just said that appeared to be gay while rolling around on the ground. And let’s just be honest, there is pretty compelling visual evidence to corroborate his thesis.
The obvious problem is that he’s implying that it’s a bad thing. He could have saved himself if he’d thrown in the “not that there’s anything wrong with that”, but that’s from Seinfeld and no one watches that show except white people, so he’s never seen it.
Wait, what?
he just said that appeared to be gay while rolling around on the ground. And let’s just be honest, there is pretty compelling visual evidence to corroborate his thesis.

The UFC isn’t even putting the numbers out there.
The one time this did happen, with Dana claiming UFC 71 would do a million, it got blown up months later because a fighter on a PPV deal was only paid for 675,000.
There is no incentive to lie about this stuff and then have to pay fighters more. If they end up paying less it blows up in their face.
This has to be one of the most absurdly racist things I’ve heard from a public sports figure since Al Campanis made his remarks about black people in the front offices of baseball on Nightline. Here’s hoping he gets crucified for his completely asinine remarks. This should be front page’d for a few days to get maximum exposure of this stupidity.

How can he say people who like boxing dont like mmaI like both granted giving the choice I would watch mma because im guaranteed a least a few good fight on a card were as boxing if you get one its a good night. Also as far as his comments about floyd, anyone can throw punches but slipping and ducking and good footwork you dont see everyday in one fighter. And as far as the skinhead thing……………I shave my head and most of my friends do too does that make us skinheads?
Sometimes you wonder, do they understand the game of football? They have a few drinks and probably the prawn sandwiches, and they don't realise what's going on out on the pitch.
Roy Keane
90% of the crowd has tattoos? Okay…even if that’s true, so what? Nobody in any boxing crowd has ever had a tattoo.
It’s crazy. I don’t care when fans dis other sports because their opinions don’t carry as much weight as the guys that run the sports. Dana saying boxing is dead is stupid, because if boxing puts up numbers comparable to the better UFC fights, in the public eye (who don’t factor in that MMA as an accepted sport is less than twenty years old and thus hasn’t been subject to milestones like the Depression, allowing blacks to fight whites, having good – Raging Bull, Rocky, Cinderella Man – movies made about it) they wonder what makes UFC so special.
Conversely the loudest detractors of MMA tend to sound anywhere from misinformed to borderline delusional. At least Dana respects boxing, if not how the sport is handled at the highest levels.
Top Four arguments I see nearly every time I venture too far from a site like BE.
Too violent: Yeah, and standing eight counts are civilized.
Untalented: Yep, all those Olympians, former pro football players, collegiate wrestlers, multi-time karate/muythai/judo champions are all just bums anybody can beat.
Gay/Homosexual: Nope, there’s never any clinching (which is illegal by the way) in boxing. Nope, never seen two guys hug for half a round because one guy was trying to catch his breath. Move along.
Boxing is real fighting: Holy shit, my mind has bee blown. I just realized every fight I’ve ever been in, my opponents always adhered to the Marquis of Queensbury rules.
It’s just weird. Criticize all you want, but try to make a little sense. No ethnic groups like MMA? We haven’t had black, Brazilian, French Canadian, Mexican, or whatever the hell Mousai is champions? Lying about PPV numbers? Because I don’t like NO ONE does? Seriously?
This guy obviously doesn’t know that there are a ton of events each year that are boxing and MMA combined events. Oh and I am Filipino and I really dislike boxing and thoroughly love MMA. I will watch boxing but I certainly won’t pay for it like I used to back in the day when it was interesting seeing Tyson KO his opponents.
Ignorance
This guy seems to respect the promoting aspect of the MMA but not the sport itself?? What a ignorant old man… Im surprised he didnt bring up that a MMA legend…lol…Big Tmmay was KO by a old boxer… oh well ignorance is what it is
hey!
It’s male pattern baldness, not neo-nazism.

I thought his "They have no chins" comment was funny..
Take 8 to 12 ounces off those gloves and see how many guys go down in boxing on a regular basis.. They’re not adapted to taking “raw” hits.. It’s also a lot harder to block effectively without that 12-16 ounce bulge of padding..
Most of the top guys have really good chins.. Don’t lump “all of MMA” in with Arlovski & Jardine here..
I’d put my money on any mid level MMA guy with a ground game beating any top level boxer 8 out of 10 times..
When he say’s they dont train like boxers..The guy’s officially off the wagon.. I guess he hasn’t seen some of the training video’s for some of the MMA guys.. He’s overlooked the All Access shows too.. MMA fighters naturally have more endurance than almost all other athletes in the world. Swimmers are about the only ones that use as many functional muscles simultaneously as MMA guys do. Most other athletes only use specific muscles and they don’t have any resistance to their effort. Football guys have a minute similarity, but they only put out short burst’s & then get a brief rest period between plays & timeouts..You might have a Devin Hester return 100 yard kickoff and run at top speed for 10-15 seconds it takes to get that distance, but then he is done and get’s a sufficient rest period.
Boxers dont have to use as much core balance because they’re not defending takedowns and not having to utilize wrestling so their lower body are always under developed for their sport.. Everyone knows power comes from your lower body, but how many of those guys “really” train legs and lower body as much as they do their punching and upper body ??

Keith Jardine is now known as "The Dean of Antihistamine" because he is always sleeping early in fights..
Well...
Having trained with pro boxers in the past…most of them work the shit out of their legs BECAUSE power comes from them.

Never trained with Pro's but..
I have trained with Golden Gloves champions and amateur champions.. Although they did leg exercises, I never saw any of them doing real lower body power lifting and lower body mechanic drills the way you see grappler’s..

Pros do train differently (knockouts are more common because of the lack of headgear and weirdo amateur point system) but beyond that it could also just be a product of different gyms training differently as well

Fuck a Bob Arum!

Mike Goldberg: "You know Joe, When Matt and his brother Mark Hughes were growing up, they would pound each other behind the barn."
Just to bring this back to Bob Arum being old and out of touch, he even disses the biggest draw in his own sport. True, I love a good bombs away fight, but I respect a boxer that is elusive (read: not one running from his opponent because he’s scared) and actually boxes. Throwing hay makers or eating a ton of shots unnecessarily does not a good boxer make.
come on now the HW champ himself is built like a black man lol his words not mine. UFC is global this dude head is just up his ass. 18-35 demo. i got a feeling he is way out of that range.

As a Skinhead who loves homosexuals (that is what according to Bob), I am confused. I’m confused because I’m a huge fan of Quinton Jackson, Rashad Evans, Anthony Johnson, Cain Velasquez, Cheick Kongo etc… but yet I’m a skinhead. I’m also confused because I’m physically attracted to women, but yet I enjoy watching gay guys roll around on the floor together…. I’m just confused I guess.
So Dana White gets flamed for using the word “gay”, and Arum literally says “rolling around like a couple of homosexuals”, there had better be a bigger shit storm from this than there ever was about Dana’s remarks.
There won’t be as big of a shitstorm for 2 reasons. 1. shit storms are always more fun when they have the underlying storyline of Dana White is the spawn of satan, it’s just less fun when anyone else is involved because no one is as evil as Dana.
Second, in the grand scheme of things, no one is really going to care what this guy says. Sure, he’ll get some mma fans riled up, but he has a way smaller reach than Dana, so there won’t be as many people to get riled up.
I don’t want to be the guy that keeps things politically correct, but Dana said “faggot” and not “gay”. Faggot is a derogatory term, while “homosexual” and “gay” are not. what this dude said was very offensive, but he didn’t use any derogatory terms.
Sorry, but that’s bullshit.
That’s what sucks about the world, people just get caught up in the buzzwords. They’re both equally awful, no matter what synonym of homosexual you use.

Of course not.
Do you not see the difference in the following:
Blacks and N……
Hispanics and b…..
Homosexuals and F……
Whites and C……
Jews and H….
There is a big difference when someone uses a derogatory word and when they use the proper term (depending on the context). If you don’t see a difference, no offense, but there is something wrong with your rationality.
It’s all in how you say it and the intention. Clearly he said it with disdain in his voice. Yes, certain words have more power, but I don’t think it’s any worse if he said, “rolling around like a couple of faggots…” instead of “rolling around like a couple of homosexuals” like he actually said. Obviously rolling around like a couple of homosexuals is meant to be a negative thing. Guys like him believe they can say that kind of stuff without actually saying the buzz words and get away with it. Please. Don’t piss in my face and tell me it’s raining.
I love me some Sexyama!
I’m not trying to defend him, but there is a difference in the context of it all. Just like his last line was “neither will blacks”. That is kind of insulting as well, but it’s not as insulting as it would have been “neither will N….”. People don’t see the same for the term “Faggot” because it is not viewed as powerfully insulting as the term “N….” (due to the history of the term). but they are both derogatory terms and should not be used, which was the error Dana white made. These are not “synonyms” as Phildo tried to play it as, they are called derogatory terms for a reason.
Oh I agree, they are derogatory terms, and I wasn’t implying you were defending him. It’s just in this instance I don’t believe there was any difference substituting one word for another. I mean, my nephew once said, “Crap off!” to me one time, but that was because he got in trouble saying “fuck off!” I know exactly what he means by it. :) Arum certainly won’t get as much heat as what Dana got, mostly because of what you said, Dana made the mistake of using the F word whereas Bob hid the impact of his homophobia, albeit very thinly.
I love me some Sexyama!
In general there’s a difference between the words.
But there is no difference in saying “rolling around like a bunch of homosexuals” as an insult, and saying “rolling around like a bunch of fags” as an insult. None.
Dana didn’t use the word gay. He said faggot. Big difference

This is a sad day for me. I am a boxing convert. I grew up watching boxing, Friday Night Fights etc. I slowly lost interest in boxing as it became a game of ducking people, good fighters getting lazy and horrible fixes. Bob Arum did a lot for the sport “back in the day.” Now he is fighting the change that is rapidly making his beloved boxing a thing of the past.
Boxing is in a rapid decline now matter who tells you otherwise. I can even prove it to you. Next time you are in public stop and ask 15-20 people who the current HW champ is. They can’t tell you. In boxings heyday EVERYONE knew the champ. I can remember the days (nights) the title changed hands as a kid. Not anymore.
There has never been 2 combat sports in America with the popularity both currently enjoy. If MMA is successful in capturing the hispanic audience I think boxing will be in a lot of trouble, more than it is currently. With the old guard in boxing slowly disappearing, it has a chance to clean up and clean out some old bad habits. There are no Oscars waiting in the wings, no more Tysons, Holmes or Ali, no Hearns, Robinson or Alexis Arguello. We now have Faber, Penn, Torres, Brock, Anderson, GSP, Machida, Rampage, Fedor, Mousasi, Diaz and Shields.
Part of me wants the boxing of old to return. But MMA has given me my new fix. The men who fight for a living are now the warriors/gladiators/fighters boxing used to brag about. MMA is the closest thing we can get to a real fight. I enjoy MMA for its decisive finishes, the mental chess match, the ground game, the striking and that fighters fight each other.
Sorry for the wall of text. I wanted to actually do a fanpost comparing the two but this will suffice.
