Am I the only one not so fond of the tibau/neer fight? I’d rather see struve/gormley or berry/hardonk.

You are not.

I agree on both counts.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Berry/Hardonk for sure.

by Chadsac on Sep 10, 2009 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions

it's cause the slot used to be for Sherk/Tibau

They should switch it with putting the #4 ranked MW in the world in the main card for once..

For whatever reason, I am psyched for the main event. I doubt it will be too competitive (Shogun won’t be brainy enough to defeat Machida), but I love both fighters and am glad Shogun is getting a title shot.

Honestly

Am I the only one who finds this card kind of bleh? Johnson and Machida will probably both get the knockout, Stevenson will get a decision, and the rest is…bleh.

He’s only had one real KO against a cocky ass rashad Evans who stood in front of him while talking and laughing. Calm down already. If theres going to be a KO in this fight its going to be Shogun KOing Machida.

WAR SHOGUN!!!

so thiago wasn’t ko’d now?

by yngjzy on Sep 10, 2009 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

You forgot that Machida KOed Thiago Silva. The other thing to note is that both Evans and Silva’s FIRST losses were to Machida, and it was the first time that they have been KOed in MMA. That is no small feat.

Machida does not = The new Chuck Liddell KO machine like some people round the interwebs have already crowned him to be. Sorry.

by xFenixKnightx on Sep 10, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

For me personally, I am NOT making that comparison to Liddell AT ALL. Despite that, Machida’s last two victories and the way he won them are good indicators that he will be a force in the UFC light heavyweight division.

by chrisbboy82 on Sep 10, 2009 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Machida has scored a knockdown on all but one of his UFC opponents (can you name the one he didn’t?). After last night’s thrashing, he’s scored nine knockdowns in seven fights, a rate that matches Chuck Liddell at his peak.

Sais Machida doesn’t KTFO of Shogun.

I'm in..

unless TKO’s aren’t counted..

Shogun won’t last 5 rounds with Lyoto..

Shogun won’t last 5 rounds with Lyoto…

Because nobodies EVER done that right? Oh wait… Give me a break Tito with a bad back did it. I can’t believe how much Machidas stock has risen with just 2 fights. He went from boring to ZOMG BEST FIGHTER EVAH!!! It’s ridiculous!

BTW, TKO’s are not counted. If Machida KOs Shogun I will be driving the Machida Bandwagon myself with a cup of Machida pee in hand damnit! lol

by xFenixKnightx on Sep 11, 2009 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Machida did not have a S&C coach until after the Tito fight. He then fought two undefeated opponents, one of which was the UFC champion. The result? Two dominating knockouts with multiple knockdowns per fight where he made his opponents look like amateurs.

Because nobodies EVER done that right?

Actually no one has ever done this…

Agreed

And besides, if we wanna compare Machida’s two KO victories to Shogun’s in UFC, then I think Machida wins in the stand-up department by a mile. The Shogun from Pride might prove me wrong though.

What ways does Shogun have to win? I love Shogun, but the lunging left hand that floored an aging Liddell isn’t going to land on Machida, who is harder to hit than arguably anyone else in the sport right now. Even if it isn’t a total KO, I don’t see Shogun winning unless he sneaks a punch in.

The bet is not that Shogun wins.

The bet is that Machida will not KO Shogun like he did Hashad.

Who expected Ben Rothwell to be the co-main event of a UFC card and be featured on their poster? =)

by MMASuPreMaCy on Sep 10, 2009 5:47 PM EDT reply actions

personally would not have put his picture on there

also when i first looked at the poster i though velasquez was shogun and i was really confused

Such a lame poster.

As I’ve said before, these things are one step away from being a Budweiser advert (especially the UFC 100 poster). So bland with big dumb block lettering. Faces blankly staring off into the void. Same thing every time.

C’mon, UFC. Show some balls, hire Eugene, and have posters that will actually grab people’s attention. Japanese MMA murdered the whole poster thing. Just killed it nearly every time. Those things deserve to be framed.

I specializes in grammar fail.

I can't believe

that Tibau/Neer is on the main card while Okami/Sonnen, Bader and Barry/Hardonk all languish.

Barry/Hardonk is almost a guaranteed KO, but I can do without seeing Okami/Sonnen. I don’t care how good they are, I just don’t like watching either guy fight.

I bet a shit load of e-money on that card (well considering what I got).

Rothwell/velasquez, Johnson/Yoshida, Okami/sonen, and more. Those guys deserve a little more than a slot in a fight night.

That’s funny considering I feel like this is an amazing card.

Machida vs. Rua isn’t the squash match that people are thinking it is; add that to Barry/Hardonk which is probably the highest level striking that has ever been in an MMA match. Plus in light of Stevenson’s last fight, he should match up well against Spencer Fisher in what I expect will be a hard-fought decision. Plus Cain/Rothwell (don’t sleep on Rothwell), Struve/Gromley, Yoshida/Johnson, and others.

by Ahhhoki on Sep 10, 2009 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

again... If this card were a Strikeforce Card

Fans would be going gaga!! OMG SHOGUN, MACHIDA, CAIN, OKAMI, SONNEN, STEVENSON, ALL ON ONE CARD!?!?!? HOW DOES “STRIkEFORCE” DO IT>!>!!>!>!>>! if they can keep putting cards like this on, UFC is in SERIOUS TROUBLE

but cuz its UFC its supposedly weak. Its a good card in my eyes.

I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.

I don’t really see these as weak cards.
There’s always the chance that an unpopular fighter had a great camp or something, and comes out and has the fight of his life. I love seeing that stuff.

-Barry vs. Hardonk BETTER be shown. I can’t believe they didn’t main card this, considering that a KO is pretty much inevitable here.

-The best event posters are the ones where they have the 2 fighters staring each other down, so you only see the side of their faces. They are way more intense, and do a better job of grabbing the attention of spectators. See UFC66 Liddell vs. Ortiz II and UFC 86 Rampage vs. Forrest

Razak Al-Hassan?

I didn’t expect him to be fighting again in the UFC. Certainly not with both arms. Good for him that he’s recovered, though.
