Cheick Kongo vs. Frank Mir Could Headline UFC 105
The rumor comes from Fighters Only:
Cheick Kongo and Frank Mir could find themselves headlining UFC 105 in November, a source close to the French heavyweight tells Fighters Only.
Fighters Only understands that the UFC is keen on Dan Henderson being one of the UFC 105 headliners but he is currently out of contract with the organisation. Negotiations have apparently hit a sticking point, with Henderson reluctant to fight Nate Marquardt before getting a shot at Anderson Silva.
The fight between Chieck Kongo and Frank Mir was originally scheduled to happen on UFC 107, but now it seems that the lack of headliners for UFC 105 are making them consider moving the fight a month earlier.
UPDATE: MMA Fanhouse reports that Henderson vs. Marquardt could headline:
"FanHouse has learned that the UFC is looking to book a middleweight bout between Nate Marquardt and Dan Henderson for the Nov. 14 show at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England. As of Thursday afternoon, though, official bout agreements had yet to be finalized."

Not bad for a free event, I was hoping for something better though.

His whole physique man
is just out of control. He’s one of the buffest guys i’ve ever seen in MMA. He looks like a damn He-Man action figure or something

LULZ! But quoting above, the man is a mountain of muscle. That open-mouth-Cloverfield thing he does is positively scary.

The fight everyone seems to think doesnt need to happen, headlines the event that a lot of brits are pissed they have to pay for. Still a good fight and card imo, put hendo in there vs cane and i dont think anyone can bitch about it.

Be calm
I think its going to end up being Hendo/Mardquart, and if not that really sucks for those of you going but hopefully you will still get to see Bisping KO’d lol

MMABay..
Speaking tonight with a leading figure at the Wolfslair gym in Widnes, MMABay asked the question, has Kongo’s fight been moved forward to the Manchester card?
"I think we’d know first don’t you?" joked the source. "No one has said anything to me and I’m the person that would be told first. I know nothing at all."
"All the discussions have been about him fighting in Memphis and until I know different, nothing has changed."
Take how you wanna since it is mmabay

This would be a great move, I’m very interested in this fight and how it will turn out and having it headline UFC 105 would be a very nice treat I hope it happens.

It is better than what they have now, but more importantly, I don’t really see a whole lot of options for this card. I have to wonder how much importance the UFC honestly sees in this card. I mean, it is going head-to-head with Pacquiao vs Coto, and it is a UK card free on Spike. I just have a hard time believing that they need anything stellar or even great for the main event.

MMA Weekly says
that the fight is staying on the 107 card:
Though recent reports suggested the bout could headline UFC 105 in Manchester, England, MMAWeekly.com sources indicated that it would take place on Dec. 12 at UFC 107 in Memphis, Tenn

Henderson vs. Marquardt?
Given Hendo’s contract expiration and stated desire to fight for the title or move up to 205, I have to wonder if this is for an interim title or if UFC is preparing for the possibility of Spider actually vacating the title (which I thought was more talk than anything when it was first reported)…Either that, or the UFC is giving him a lot of money to fight Marquardt. If this fight does happen, I like Hendo’s chances. Henderson via UD.

Is Hendo holding out so he can skip Nate? Seems that way to me. Smart move but..

like maia, kongo is a one trick pony
he has no ground game. mir will submit him in first two minutes. if they ever had lesnar vs kongo you could just drool for those guys bodies, lmao! who cares what their bodies look like. i just want to see the best matchups and best fights possible in all weight classifications. marquardt is the bigger man when it comes to fighting hendo. i love henderson’s knockout of bisping (it made me alot of money) but bisping gave up the knockout. hendo getting too much credit while marquardt is not getting enough recognition for knocking out an undefeated maia in 27 seconds. nate takes hendo then gets another shot at silva. remember it took gsp’s second fight with hughes for him to get the results he wanted. i see nate m. in the same situation. he was quite confident of beating maia and will be confident the second time with silva. he may not win but it will be a war. i just want someone to knock out silva. he is kinda acting like a male version of a diva! ramble on.

Kongo is a one trick pony…but within that one trick he is very very dangerous. How do you think mir is going to get the fight to the ground, his amazing wrestling? Is he going to outstrike Kongo with his world class striking?

Henderson has beaten a crisp striker in Franklin. Im pretty sure he could handle Nate. It will be a great fight tho

Um. Maia’s one trick was on the ground and he even said that while he was great at that, every fight starts out standing.
Kongo by murder. I hate Mir. So I hope he gets brutally beaten.

I could see Mir pulling guard after being punched in the Melon a few times…. but then again, he’s thinking he ruined a “prime” Nog (riiiiiight) standing, and says he rocked Lesnar’s world for the brief moment it was on the feet.
The arrogant bastard will probably try to win standing to prove a point, get KO’d, and ruin any chance of making that Minotauro revenge raping from ever occuring. Too bad, I was looking forward to nog spanking Mir like a Red Headed step Child
Even a broken clock is right two times a day.

since everyone is bashing mir i tell.....
you his job during most of his mma career was a bouncer for the spearmint rhino stripjoint in las vegas. in fact quite a few mma fighters under contract are bouncers in vegas. i’ve met henderson in person at the hard rock hotel during a wec event. he is not even close to 6 feet tall. more like 5 feet 10 inches. i do think he is a very good fighter just getting up there in age and marquadt is the younger stronger man. ramble on!

That’s still pretty close to six feet tall.

they actually have hendo listed at 6 feet 1 inch.....
unless they changed it. 3 inches is kinda alot. he still is a great fighter but if he meets nate m. expect the knockout to come from nate the gr8t. ramble on!
