glad to see Lashlye is continuing to build up the caliber of his opponents slowly
Waterman should be (not sure how much he’s faded with age) be a step up from Sapp.
would like to see him face Don Frye soon.
Next stop someone with submission skills.

I know it’s good to build up big talent slowly but Jesus…it feels like Lashley has fought the bottom of the barrel for every one of his fights. They don’t even seem like fights as much as a bunch of platforms to demonstrate each facet of Lashley’s evolving game.
None of them any better than the last
Even Kimbo Slice’s opposition improved faster than this

I’ll admit that most of the moaning about the quality Lashley’s opponents is over the top, but let’s not forget that Bobby is 33 years old. He can’t afford to take the same developmental path as a guy who started in the sport as a 23 year old.
You can point to it only being his fifth fight all you want, but Bobby is going to have to make a big jump in the level of competition sooner rather than later.
I’d like to see him fight someone who’s not overage or a joke fighter. I mean, it doesn’t have to be like some sort of heavyweight monster, but I’d like to see him at least go up against someone of legitimate standing (not in the top 25). I guess they have to find guys with names for him to fight, gotta be hard to build up a legit record like that.
Where’s Tank Abbot?
its irresponsible to throw him in with the top fighters just because you recognize his name. he’s entering the fight game just like anyone else would.

I wonder if Lashley really wants to be the best, or is just looking for a big payday.
I get the sense he is just trying to build up his record and then hopes to get a huge payoff from Zuffa or Strikeforce.
Probably he wants both?
He has a family to feed you know, which is why he’s taking fights against mostly recognizable opponents and also why he works part-time for TNA Wrestling. It’s not like he’s making $100,000 a fight or probably even $25,000, and it’s not like people can fight until they’re 60 (okay maybe Dan Severn will but still).
Anyway I think he’s made good choices so far and hope he wins. Seems like a pretty nice guy.
He made $40,000 for the Guida fight if I remember correctly. Not sure what he’s made in the two fights since then though.

Shane Carwin’s first 5 opponents:
1. Carlton Jones (1-4)
2. Casey Jackson (4-2)
3. Jay McCown (1-3)
4. Justice Smith (0-1)
5. Chris Guillen (13-12)
Bobby Lashley’s first 5 opponents:
1. Joshua Franklin (0-1)
2. Jason Guida (17-20) , a late replacement for Ken Shamrock (27-13-2)
3. Mike Cook (7-4)
4. Bob Sapp (10-5)
5. Ron Waterman (16-6-2)
So lay off the guy, and let him develop.

Lies. You changed the fight order on purpose.
Lashley started off fighting sapp and his opponents are only getting worse.
His opponents should be getting BETTER. Wouldn’t be such a problem if he fought them in the order you laid out.

I agree with you in principal, but by the time Carwin was 33, he was already 8-0 and was preparing to make his UFC debut.
Lashley can’t afford to dick around a whole lot longer. He needs to step it and soon if he ever hopes to make an impact at the highest levels of the sport.
I’d say that taking 5 fights in one year shows that he’s not “dicking around.” I’d imagine he’d try to keep the same pace in 2010 as well. And if he went out and got knocked out, Kimbo Slice style, in his fifth fight, some of the same fans would be calling him an overrated joke. He needs to protect his brand while he develops, PRECISELY BECAUSE he can’t afford to waste time rebuilding his reputation if he loses.
Yeah, people just know who Lashley is now so they want to see him progress faster, If Carwin had been in the WWE, people would have been all up in his shit.

He has beaten some good fighters
The older Overeem, Rodriguez, Randleman, lost to Cro Cop, This will for sure be his biggest test, can’t help but think of the Lesnar comparrison though, As far as speeding through the ranks to get the title shot after a few fights-certainly not the case with Lashley.
Doesn't anybody think before they speak/post anymore?

Thats because Brock is better than Lashley. Better wrestling credentials and bigger star. Id seriously doubt Guida would of made it 15 minutes with Brock.

I don’t think Guida would of made it 15 minutes with Lashley if that fight was in a cage

listing opponents is retarded? 1.Min so Kim 2. Frank Mir 3. Heath Herring 4. Randy Couture 5.Frank Mir same amount of fights as lashley 100times better competition. How exactly do you measure a fighters skills if you don’t base it off who he has fought and how well he did against them? Bobby hasn’t fought anybody worth noting and hasn’t really looked overly impressive in doing so. Brock has a bigger pedigree. NCCA Divsion I Champ and runner up at heavyweight vs NAIA 177 champ. Lashley just doesn’t have the same background and drive to get where brock is. Brock has reached the top of everything he has done. He puts 100% in MMA not 50/50. He isnt still doing the pro wrasslin thing he is fighting in the #1 org in MMA and is the current HW Champ. Lashley wouldn’t even go on TUF

I’m fine with Lashley doing what he’s doing. I haven’t heard him demand big money or a spot with a prominent promotion. Sure, he’s benefiting from name recognition, but there’s nothing wrong with that. I think he’s got a good bit of work to do. Maybe, he’ll develop into a top 20 caliber heavyweight in time.
in a division where guys over 200 lb’s wear gloves that weigh less than 6 oz….you gotta take time to build up your guy’s skills. it’s that simple. otherwise you end up with a “Cain Velasquez” scenario where he’s swimming with sharks in a deep division full of seasoned pro fighters……his management team is passing on the up front easy money and doing the right thing.
