Another thing that has been issue lately from what I've seen is what is the definition of "fighter bashing" and what constitutes it. Some people are getting reprimanded for comments about fighters while others are going completely unnoticed. There should be a standard set in place that we should follow, no matter who the fighter is, if "fighter bashing" is going to be labeled as a "no no" on BE.
In all honesty, in my opinion, there is no way of dodging the "fighter bashing" problem. If you are not speaking positively about a fighter and his abilities, then you are speaking negatively and if we can't voice negative opinions... what the hell is the point of posting here in the first place? Its all about tone in your posts, the projection that you are conveying in your opinion or statement.
For example and this is only an example:
Fedor in my mind is running away from competition. Given the quality level of fighters in the UFC HWY division, he could truly lay claim to his reign as the number 1 HWY, if not number 1 p4p fighter in the world. The level of competition in Strikeforce in most ways is inferior to that of the UFC, outside of Rogers and Overeem, there is no one and not even those two can provide much competition.
The above posting is a negative posting in regards to the Fedor situation. In essence, it is bashing him, but it is saying it in a respectful tone.
Fedor is scared and he is tucking dick and running away like a bitch.... Fuck Fedor. (sorry Luke, just using this to make a point)
That posting is also negative and its laced with foul language and malcontent. This is fighter bashing and considering we're all adults here.... should be avoided and postings like this should be dealt with by the moderators.
Now, I enjoy a lot of the stuff that is posted on here.... mainly I love some of the sarcastic tone and jokes that you all come up with. I think there is a difference between commenting to make others laugh and commenting to be destructive.... this line should be visible. If the moderators are to consider policing the "fighter bashing" more appropriately.... there is no difference between Fedor Emelianenko and someone such as Antwann Britt. You can't just protect your favorites but let everyone run wild on the guys that you don't like.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is the exact same thing your mom or wife says when you're arguing with them.... that is "watch your tone".

all I know is I got warned 2-3 days ago for fighter bashing for saying (exact quote);
“Only thing I semi-agreed with is that Fedor doesn’t care about fighting the best. I say semi-agree because its very possible he’s scared to fight the best.”
so the above is clearly fighter bashing on BE, if that helps out the curious….

I don't like the whole "scared" angle
its disrespectful.
I think they fear that Fedor could lose to Lesnar, in the cage, with elbows and don’t want to risk it unless the reward is very very huge. But that’s different than saying Fedor is personally scared.
Looking at what Reaser16 wrote out of context, no it doesn’t look that bad. But in the context of a thread where we’re having to delete and hide and warn and ban right and left, it was over the line.
there’s a time and a place to push your luck with the mods, a heated 500 comment thread is not that place.

Our goal isn’t to piss you off Nate or any of the other mods but there is some major “flammage” that is going on here lately and seemingly harmless points are being deleted.
THE ONLY THING I LIKED ABOUT THE OLD MMA JUNKIE, was that the mods would delete the comments of posters that were just fishing to piss people off and making dumb comments just to make people mad…
I’m loving the increase of traffic on here, lots of good and fresh ideas are coming in but we’re also getting some Junkie, Sherdog, and UG cast offs that are just out here to push buttons and its really annoying…. it will eventually drive people away from this site in the same way others were driven off of Sherdog, Junkie, and the UG.

I’m sure it is Nate… I’m not trying to dog you guys at all because I did try to find other avenues to discuss MMA after the whole “Which MMA Fighter Will Die Next” debacle and everything that I found was either inferior or it just flat out made me sick.
You guys do great stuff here, I guess what I’m trying to say is that we all need to start being accountable for what we say and crossing the line shouldn’t be ignored.

my post was very on point to discussion of the fanpost and was/is my personal opinion, I didn’t respond to anyone to attack their opinion nor did I call anyone a name, fighter or otherwise…
I said it was a possibility…

ya, it didn’t bother me and isn’t a big deal, especially after the “Fedor is a ****” stuff and Luke having to threaten a ban to get it to stop (and it still didn’t)…
but I was in a completely different fanpost on a slightly different topic and I wasn’t attacking or bashing (imo) Fedor…in most other posts about him I’ve said he’s the #1 HW of all-time and current and a top 3 P4P fighter, he’s not my favorite and I rather he signed with the UFC, but I didn’t call him any names or anything.
But I’m not going to cry about getting warned, ha, I didn’t care, I just saw this fanpost and tried to help out by showing what was considered fighter bashing from my personal experience…

I think it was the “If you can’t play nicely with your toys. I’m going to take them away” mentality. The Fedor threads were so out of control, I don’t really blame them for their scorched-earth comment policy. Hopefully, once they’ve issued any warnings and bans they lost track of in the mess, we’ll be back to our normally dysfunctional self, instead of our recent out-of-control self.

I’ve bashed other posters… mainly mmalogic. It wasn’t right, I kept going and going…iiowin called me out on it and he was right.
Fact is, if you can’t post anything that contributes intelligent points of view or something funny to make others laugh…. then just shut up and don’t say anything. Also, quit pushing the same arguments over and over and over again…. make your point with one post and just leave it alone.

My definition of fighter bashing
Like it or not, the internet has spawned a very coarse culture, in civic discourse on race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Anonymity has a tendency to bring out the worst in people. To keep the forum civil, it is necessary to uphold certain standards, one of them being you can’t just shit on people because it’s easy and convenient and you like being a dick on the internet. Here is the easy test:

Don’t call a fighter, a guy who gets in the cage (or ring) for a living, a coward or a pussy? There is nothing funny about that.

Some people feel this way about Fedor (I do not). So I think it is within the realm of fair comment to say:
“…he’s scared to fight the best."
That ain’t calling him a coward. It might be calling him a pragmatic businessman. But it’s somebody’s opinion, and it isn’t unreasonable.

to put in proper context I said “he’s very POSSIBLY scared to fight the best”…
I didn’t say he is scared, like I would be saying it if it was fact, which no one knows his reasons, like farthammer says (nice screenname), but no one knows that he isn’t scared either, which is why its possible and thats exactly what i said.
and also, it was only the 4th or 5th comment in the entire comment section of a new fanpost and it was immediately warned for fighter bashing, wasn’t like there was any posts being deleted or any actual discussion taking place yet, I posted right when the fanpost was posted and it was directly relating to the fanpost and topic in the fanpost…though obviously it was relating to Fedor and there was many other discussions going on about him in other fanposts at the time.
again, don’t care that I was warned, but just correcting the quoting of my comment so people can discuss what actually happend and give their opinion on if its fighter bashing or not. Which Kid Nate already ruled it was, so I don’t see the point of discussing it but at least its something to talk about besides Fedor.

I haven’t seen him get bashed at all, and in fact anyone who even questions him gets jumped all over. Granted that’s not the mods fault, but clearly Lesnar could consider this site his unofficial fansite.
