Chris Leben Didn't Train for Jake Rosholt?
A prominent fighter came over to me tonight and told me he'd made a bet on Rosholt. I was a little surprised by that. He said he knew that Leben hadn't trained at all.
...UFC is dropping fighters on the margins, I think he's done.
--Kevin Iole talking about the rumors that Chris Leben didn't train for his UFC 102 fight against Jake Rosholt.

Leben was sort of on the fringe,
but if he came out & blasted Rosholt he would be safe for a good while. The UFC loves a guy who bangs every time, even if they lose as much as they win. See Keith Jardine. If this is true, then Leben has really screwed up-again.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.

Somebody posted an article about this yesterday that was quickly taken down, it suggested he may be having a problem with alcohol. If true it’s unfortunate and he needs to seek treatment ASAP.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

I don’t think meat-heads (Chris Leben) are any less likely to be alcoholics, considering that the primary hobby of most young people these days is partying. It’s a sad truth and people should be working for a more macroscopic cure…

Regardless of whatever personal problems he may or may not be having, I think it is time for him to move on. He will never be a title challenger in the UFC, and his popularity amongst fans has waned. Let him go to SF or something, where he can get a paycheck and perhaps fight for a belt.

Wow.
You guys are quick to sh*t on a guy based on some anonymous conjecture. Leben will probably never be more than a gatekeeper in the UFC. But he fought hard & had his moments. There’s a reason the UFC held on to Rosholt & he showed it on Saturday. I assumed Rosholt would get picked apart on the feet. He improved a bunch & surprised me w/better boxing & a submission finish?! I doubt a guy could “not train @ all” yet still make weight & fight @ a decent level. Sounds absurd to me.

Exactly
This sounds absurd to me as well. If I am not mistaken, Rosholt is a highly decorated Div I wrestler and Leben took him down, I think, twice. It is not like Leben was getting utterly dominated until that arm triangle.
Stylistically, this was not even a good matchup for Leben. It was, in a way, a wrestler vs brawler matchup. Leben has always been a gatekeeper anyways, and I don’t know why some MMA fans were expecting more from him.

Don’t kid yourself, there’s a reason Leben was a big favorite when the lines came out on this fight.

The lines on 99% of gambling sites were borderline moronic. Not only did I pick Rosholt to win, I put him in my parlay because of the value he presented. Leben has been a one-trick pony his entire career. He’s barely showed any progress with his game, and while his cardio might be slightly better than it was, he hasn’t utilized his potential to even a small degree. Whether this is because of his attitude or something else is his issue. All I know is, I was not surprised that he lost. He wasn’t anything more than a C fighter to begin with and he’s barely pushing the B- mark in recent times. As long as he’s willing to bleed for those “drunk white guys” Mayweather was talking about and keep the fight standing, he’ll probably make a decent living as a striker. He would probably be content with making $20,000 per fight four times a year if it meant he didn’t have to train and do all that other gay shit.

This goes right up there with the rumors about Nogueira being KO’ed in sparring and having trouble with his training camp. Anonymous rumors about fighter training should be ignored unless a source can come forward and substantiate things and stand by what they say.

I think this fight was a product of how much Rosholt has improved. You know what you are getting in Leben every time, but I think that Rosholt has improved exponentially since his time in the WEC. He went from a guy throwing punches with his hands down and chin up to someone who threw pretty crisp and straight punches with good form. Rosholt won the fight, I don’t think Leben lost it.

Watching Leben Fight
After watching Leben throw 5 or so wild, looping punches that would have been perfect in a John Wayne movie, It was apparent to me that he wasnt going to do the work that a fighter needs to do to win a fight. He looked like he was looking for the one big shot that had come in many of his wins.
Did it look like he hadnt trained?-YES
Do I believe his head/heart/mind aren’t in it 100%-YES
Do I Care?-Not Really
