Quote of the Day 2: Nate Marquardt Talks Bobby Lashley
"I train with two of the best heavyweights in the world, Shane Carwin and Brendan Schaub. And he's not anywhere near them," Marquardt said. Then he laughed, but suddenly his eyes got very serious. "I've trained with Bobby a couple of times and for some reason he doesn't have a loyalty to our team. I've kind of written him off. I'm loyal to my guys."

Lashley needs to make his mind up. He was TNA wrestling last week and he’ll be wrestling at their pay per view. You can’t half-ass MMA.

You also can’t pay bills with the kinda checks he’s been getting. Plenty of fighters at his stage still have their jobs, him being in TNA is just his way to bring in some cash.

I doubt their jobs are as taxing on the body as Pro Wrestling. Pro Wrestling is like being in a car crash…over and over and over again. You can’t do that and be serious about MMA.

Pro Wrestling is likely more grueling on the body then MMA.

3 days of intense bodily strain.

I watch TNA, and he hasn’t even wrestled on their Thursday “Impact” show yet. He has one match coming up on a TNA PPV, but other than that, he hasn’t been in the six-sided ring yet. Him being in TNA is just to garner a different fanbase. He has to appear on TNA programming for 3 or 4 days, but that doesn’t mean that he has to wrestle.
While the possibility of injury can happen in a professional wrestling ring, I have friends that do professional wrestling, and they are not crippled or have had serious injury. Especially with how little Lashley is wrestling and how little days he works for TNA (sometimes not wrestling), I would honestly be surprised if he gets seriously injured. Many wrestlers that do get a serious injury wrestle in the ring extremely frequently and wrestle frequestly while STILL injured. Lashley doesn’t have that same schedule as most normal professional wrestlers.
The only reason I am ranting about this is because of the obvious misconception of Lashley being in TNA. It is not even money but him being smart and getting extra exposure.

1. He already has that fanbase.
2. He’s also stated he’s doing TNA for extra income.
3. Your friends probably aren’t trying to be “serious” MMA fighters.
4. One match can derail his MMA dreams.
I’m just saying it’s not really feasible to do both things at the same time.

The point that I was trying to make and stress in my initial post is how grossly over-exaggerated and misinformed some MMA fans are in regards to Lashley doing professional and to his health doing it. Can he get injured during a wrestling match-yes, but seeing his schedule and how little he wrestles, it is not very likely especially as compared to a full-time professional wrestler.
As far as number 1 goes, he had a long layoff between WWE and TNA (and was NOT even close to being the star that Lesnar was), so in order to get reacquainted with that fanbase, he is doing TNA. I was under the impression that he was well-off financial, so I was unaware that he needed the money from TNA.
You would be correct to say that both are not feasible IF Lashley was doing both full-time. However, that simply is not the case because his pro-wrestling schedule is just so light, and he doesn’t even wrestle all the time on the four or five days that he does TNA (Just think about that for a second. He works TNA four or five days a month and doesn’t even wrestle on some of those days).
1) If you’re out of the spotlight for too long, that fanbase can erode. Him being in TNA keeps him relevant to the 1.5 million or so wrestling fans who watch TNA.
2) and 3) no argument there
4) Lots of fighters have second professions that are fairly dangerous. Overeem and Manhoef still compete in K-1. Fedor still does Combat Sambo tournaments. What Lashley is doing isn’t as dangerous as either of those things. I’m sure Lashley knows the risks. Frankly 1-2 matches a month isn’t going to take that much of a toll on him unless he’s very unlucky. Furthermore TNA films in Orlando, which is a few hours away by car from ATT. This is a pretty ideal set up for him.
You are overstating things.
Most of the injuries and painkiller usage from pro wrestling came from their ridiculous schedules, not because every wrestling match was like a car crash.
It’s not that each individual match is debilitating, it’s that once they do get hurt, they have to fly to another town and wrestle the next night while injured. Then they wind up tweaking something else because they were favoring an injury, and now they have to wrestle tomorrow with two nagging injuries. Wash, rinse, and repeat, and after six months on the road those guys are physical wrecks.
Lashley doesn’t have that problem. He wrestles for three days and then disappears for a month. If he does sustain any injuries, he can let them heal. However, it’s highly unlikely he will sustain any injuries since it appears he only does mic work for the studio shows. Doing one PPV wrestling match per month isn’t going to impede his career in any way.
Lashley got paid $40,000 for his second fight, I won’t make that much this entire year.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.
You should apply for a job a mmalogic’s assistant or hand washer.

My thoughts exactly

blogging on mmajunkie doesn't mean he won because that will be decided on the live finale..
it probably means he got far though..

His fights last less than a minute on average. Thats a good start.

Somehow
I had no idea that Shane Carwin trained at Jacksons
I kinda just thought he materialized out of the aether for every PPV
Si Hoc Legere Scis Nimium Eruditionis Habes
he actually trains with Marquardt in Colorado
first and foremost. secondarily with Jackson.

He has been training at Easton BJJ in Boulder. He is part of the group that trains at T’s in Denver (Arvada), including Nate, Schaub, Cody Donovan, Eliot Marshall, etc… This is a great group of guys and fighters that pretty much have open door policies at Jackson’s, T’s, Easton, Nate’s and so on. Carwin has been training his BJJ extensively with Eliot.

I don’t care about Bobby Lashley because I find pro wrestling to be juvenile. Until he beats somebody decent and cements himself as being credible competitor, he won’t find himself anywhere near top fighters. He’ll probably land in the UFC, but that’s simply because we know Zuffa wants to be more like TNA than baseball when it comes to pulling in ratings.
