The Great Fedor Opinion Poll

This article is just a vehicle for an opinion poll of the hardcore MMA fan community on Fedor.

The hardcore fans are the only ones in North America who care about Fedor, so it is important to gauge the attitude of hardcore fans towards Fedor. The hardcore fan base also acts as a barometer for future shifts in mainstream fan attitudes. Fedor has a nearly spotless record, and a collection of devastating KOs and submissions, but recently he has come under attack over his desire to "fight the best".

To keep this poll as fair as possible I will add no commentary of my own, seeing as I'm so influential :P.

What say ye, unwashed legions of hardcore fans?

Fedor?

At this point, do I really give a damn about Fedor? No, it is odvious to me that Fedor does not want to assert himself as the best heavyweight on the planet right now, which means by the time he does work for the UFC he will be a washed up shell of what he once was. That is if he ever does work for the UFC. I hope he has fun fighting on shows that most fans will just watch the next morning on Youtube.

Still a Fedor nuthugger for life :)

I think a lot of negativity has to do with the over exposure he has gotten in the last two weeks. Even im sick of hearing about him and ecpsecially speculation on his contract status. I want him locked in a contract with a decent fight signed and coming up.

This is hard for me… I am favorable of him as a fighter, since he is clearly the best. I’m unfavorable of him as a athlete because of his recent decisions and not caring about his fans. This troubles me a lot because we share the same faith and while that might not mean a lot to some people, Orthodox try to be tight nit.

We should only be so lucky.

PRIDE was the best, I wish it had “won” the war with the UFC. I wanted someone to win because I want all the best fighters to be in one org finally, now the UFC is our option for that. That’s fine, it’ a product I like less but it IS a product I like. Fedor is still gumming up the works, as usual.

by Chris Barton on Aug 4, 2009 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I also like a product that drug tests its fighters and makes their champions defend.

PRIDE wasn’t perfect, but neither is the UFC.

I’m not sure I care about PHDs that much, if they don’t test than it’s still even since anyone can do what they want. I care when they use them what it’s supposed to be illegal in competition, since that’s cheating.

As for defending their titles, they did. Not as often as we have it in the UFC, but we got some fun fights and some AMAZING Grand Prixs because of it.

At least competition testing prevents painkillers and stuff like meth.

I want Fedor to fight in the UFC but I like him even more now that he has given Dana White and the UFC the proverbial finger. I have always liked the rebels who say “Fuck You” to big monopolizing corporations.

lol at UFC fanboys. I guess wanting to see how Fedor would fare against the best overall competition available makes one a UFC fanboy. I do think SF is probably the best option outside of the UFC and I look forward to seeing Fedor vs AO, but that is about it.

I personally don’t hate Fedor, I just find myself not caring as much about what he does. The thing is indifference and disinterest are far more damaging and powerful than hating or loving him.

he has to fight someone other than guys that couldn’t cut it in the UFC for me to care anymore. when brett f’ing rogers is the next guy up to fight you when a fight falls through….you’re with the WRONG PROMOTION.

by SHOWMAN 56 on Aug 4, 2009 6:34 PM EDT reply actions

“…….but recently he has come under attack over his desire to “fight the best”.

He was supposed to fight Barnett 4 days ago so he clearly wants and is prepared to fight the best. He has always looked for challenges, even if the challenge is a lose/lose for him….ie…HMC.

I am quite surprised that so many people have a negative view of Fedor. His record is unparralleled, he is humble and polite…..a true sportsman and rolemodel. Whats not to like? The fact that he is just as content fighting Overeem as he would be Lesnar? Just as content fighting Werdum as he would be Mir? Just as content fighting Monson as he would be Couture? All of those fights present legitimate challenges for Fedor. He isnt running from the best competition at all. He has solid competition for him wherever he goes and has many comparable challenges both in and out of the UFC. Im just looking forward to watching him fight……whoever his opponent may be!
