M-1 Global "Breakthrough" Live Play-by-Play, Results and Commentary
M-1 Global holds the seemingly ill-fated first of their "premium" fight cards tonight in Kansas City, Missouri, with wrestling sensation "King" Mo Lawal taking on faded MMA icon Mark Kerr in the main event. An exhibition sparring match between Red Devil teammates Fedor Emelianenko and Gegard Mousasi is also set to take place during the event, and the undercard features some top notch prospects like Karl Amoussou and Lucio Linhares. In short, trials and tribulations aside, it ought to be a fun night of fights.
Join us here at Bloody Elbow beginning at 10 PM ET for the start of the live HDNet broadcast.
The undercard will be streaming on Sherdog.com starting at 8:15 PM ET.

Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal (4-0) vs. Mark Kerr (15-10, 1 NC)
Round 1: Lawal wearing wrestling shoes... Kerr slaps at Lawal with a right leg kick, which Lawal snatches up. Kerr tries to turn mid-takedown and winds up turtling on the mat. After a number of punches from Mo and no movement from Kerr, the ref mercifully stops the bout. Mike Fagan notes that it looks as though Kerr may have injured his shouler following the takedown. "The Smashing Machine" lay face down on the canvas for a minute following the match as he spoke to doctors and officials.
Muhammed Lawal (5-0) def. Mark Kerr (15-11, 1 NC) via TKO (Punches) at 0:25 of Round 1
Karl "Psycho" Amoussou (10-2-1) vs. "The Iron Bull" John Doyle (8-8, 1 NC)
Round 1: Doyle catches an immediate right leg kick from Amoussou and drags the Frenchman down. Amoussou closes up a tight guard and pulls Doyle's head down as Doyle tries to posture up in the center of the ring. Karl controlling well from guard, now sweeps beautifully to full mount, punching away as Doyle tries to cover up. After absorbing punishment for a good 30 seconds, Doyle finally gives up his back. Amoussou tries to sink in the RNC, but it's loose and Doyle's staying alive. Amoussou takes a moment to work it deeper and elicits the tap.
In his post-fight interview, the M-1 Global-managed "Psycho" says he wants his next fight to be with Strikeforce: "I've waited for it for a long time. I think there will be great fighters to fight, and to kick the asses of."
Karl Amoussou (11-2-1) def. John Doyle (8-9, 1 NC) via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 3:15 of Round 1
Lucio Linhares (12-4) vs. Mikhail Zayats (8-3)
Round 1: After a wild exchange, Linhares clips Zayats with a right hook behind the ear and Zayats crumbles. The Brazilian follows him to the ground, immidately takes his back and sinks in a deep rear-naked choke, avenging his last loss.
Lucio Linhares (13-4) def. Mikhail Zayats (9-4) via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:00 of Round 1
Jessie Gibbs (9-2) def. Rob Broughton (10-5-1) via Unanimous Decision
Michael Kita (6-3) def. Lloyd "Kadillac" Marshbanks (18-9) via Submission (Strikes) at 1:50 of Round 1
Daisuke Nakamura (20-10) def. Ferrid "The Hurricane" Kheder (13-5) via Unanimous Decision
Kheder missed weight; bout changed to 159 lbs catchweight. Nakamura will receive 10% of Kheder's purse.

I’m watching the boxing.
Beverly Hills 90210.......Denver Broncos 7.
Worse. I’ll break it down.
Ref blank stares at a large man curled up, he barely taps at firs, then taps again, the ref staring straight at him, then he points it out and watches him get punched a few more times. Fighter taps for the third time and the fight is stopped.

Rogers’ wrestling is a little underrated, and he IS big, but nothing about his style suggests to me he has the slightest clue on how to counter sambo throws.
by Michael Rome on Aug 28, 2009 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions
I just think, if you watch Fedor over the past few years, even against guys like Sylvia and Arlovski, he stands with guys known for supposedly being great strikers. In both cases on paper it would make sense for Fedor to take them down, but he beat them at their own game. I think he will knock Rogers out in a minute or two.

Has rogers ever been hurt in the stand up? and his only chance of winning being on the feet tells me the entire strategy would be to take his ass down.
Now the question is how easily can Fedor take him down. I dont think it will be at will.
No, he hasn’t, but he also hasn’t fought anyone capable standing against andrei, who he caught in a couple seconds.
I thought he looked very lethargic in the fight before the Andrei fight.

He’s never been really hit clean. He is just going to be so much slower standing.
He did take a few from Humphrey, who has some power. I don’t think he is going to go down as soon as Fedor hits him. But the key against Fedor standing is movement, which Rogers doesn’t do.

Ok I dont think Fedor will be able to take Rogers down at will… This gives Rogers a punchers chance.
Fedor is too fluid on the feet and his movement makes him very hard to hit. So the question is can Rogers catch him before Fedor rocks him… and how much will it take for Fedor to put him on queer street.
Will the sylvia combo do it or the Arlovski punch? Rogers is faster than sylvia and has a better chin than Arlovski.
There not really there to fight… There asses are filled with hundred dollar bills to launder overseas.

Why the hell is Mousasi even in the discussion?
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
Thirteen straight wins which include wins over Hector Lombard, Evangelista Santos, Denis Kang, Dong Sik Yoon, Melvin Manhoef, Jacare, Mark Hunt, and Babalu. Moved up in weight (successfully). Has won titles at 185 and 205. I’d say that’s p4p ability right there. He’s at least deserving of the top ten and, in my opinion, the top five. The other four are locks. The only guy that could be put ahead of Mousasi, outside of those four, happens to be Penn. And, in my opinion, Penn doesn’t deserve to be there.
http://twitter.com/FlyByKnite
So beating Jacare and Babalu are his best wins, and Babalu best at #10 LHW. He is not ranked top 10 at any weight. He has good skills, but color me not that impressed yet. I like his potential a lot, but both of those wins seemed more like his opponent losing than him winning.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
So out of all of those people he beat 1 guy in the top 10(Babalu) I do agree that he is very impressive but its way to early to put him int hat class. IMO Penn deserves to be there b4 him I mean the only person to beat Penn lately is GSP who is top 3 p4p.

Kang and Jacare looked better than him. I understand he won those fights but come on Jacare was controlling him and gets KO’d w/ an upkick… Kang GIVES him a triangle… I just want to see him fight some top 205ers until we put him on this list.

You done? Or you gonna make more posts about about how much you don’t get what the word “exhibition” means?
exhibition
From wikipedia
An exhibition game (also known as an exhibition match or simply exhibition, or a demonstration or demo or an “exhibit” event) is a sporting event in which there is no competitive value of any significant kind to any competitor (such as tournament or season rankings, or prize money) regardless of the outcome of the competition. Quality of play is generally valued over the end result.
Note nowhere in there does it suggest a predetermined outcome, such as the one clearly on display in Fedor VS Mousasi.
I used wikipedia instead of dictionary.com to make sure the proper context of the term was used.

you think mousasi has enough sense to get away from M1 and sign with the UFC?
Depends what he wants to do in the future. If he wants to box and do MMA, he could stay with Strikeforce, though he may leave M-1 if he doesn’t like them managing his career.

Aaargh – I’m totally over Fedor and M-1 (was over M-1 long ago, but not defending FE). No defending that shit. W-O-W.
I am the bastard love child of Junie Browning and Diamond Dave Kaplan.

Did anyoe find Schiavo's (sp?) screaming "its over"...
at the conclusion of the Mo v Kerr fight annoying…as if something shocking and momentous had just occurred, as opposed to exactly what everyone, including Mark Kerr, expected?
It may have been a shitty fight
but it is the commentator’s job to pretend that it’s not. Especially during the main event.
