You know, this gets a little grating. The idea that somehow hormone replacement is why Randy looks good for this fight is beyond absurd. You have one Rogan comment and people have taken it and blown it way out of proportion.
by Michael Rome on Aug 28, 2009 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s more that I see this everywhere. The general basis for proof is a rambling Joe Rogan comment on ESPN (this is the same guy who said on ESPN that when you see Houston fight it’s like he’s going to rape someone).
Further, it has little to no affect on why he looks good for this fight. People kind of use this unsubstantiated stuff as a hatchet against him, even though it’s legal to do it and no proof he does it.
by Michael Rome on Aug 28, 2009 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions
I certainly didn’t intend for it to be taken literally, and I personally believe it has nothing to do with his ability, measurables or conditioning at his advanced age. He’s one of a kind.
I STILL poop rainbows.
yeah, for what it’s worth… i didn’t take it as a jab at randy at all. more a “i would need this to look like him” joke.
didn’t even know about the rogan quote… which kinda sucks to hear him say.
to hear rogan claim that about randy. wouldn’t think he’d make those kinds of claims about him, without some sort of proof. dunno… maybe it’s just me.
Considering his love for the guy, I’m inclined to believe he wouldn’t say anything that wasn’t true.

it is true… and it is legal and approved.
This is a huge breakthrough in athletics expanding the lifespan of being able to compete up to 10 years plus.
Too bad Chuck fucked himself up with the wrong “therapy”. The kind that contracts your ability to compete.
In this case, I’m not sure why Rome gets so peeved when it gets brought up. It certainly would play a great deal in his ability to continue to perform at the highest levels as he nears FIFTY.

I like Rogan but...
He’s not one that requires proof in making accusations. He’s a Moon hoaxer, so he actually makes accusations in the face of evidence.
by Danny Dangerously on Aug 28, 2009 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Please explain the term “Moon hoaxer” I’m just curious because Joe Rogan talks about a lot of crazy shit but you might be suprised when you look into what he says, quotes, repeats, etc I know that sounds retarded and cliche but when I heard him quote Terence McKenna I almost shat my pants.
It's not absurd at all...
I’m inclined to believe Rogan. 46 year old men don’t look like that. Randy looks better now than he did when he was in his thirties and I doubt it’s because he’s training harder. He obviously has access so why not? It’s not like he’ll test positive and I don’t for a second think that he has too much integrity to do that sort of thing. At his age, you need every advantage you can get.
So what is your reason Randy looks better now than against Brock? More hormones?
It’s completely legal, so there’s no such thing as testing positive, but it’s looked down upon mostly because people are generally too lazy to look into the actual effects. The idea that bringing the hormone levels back to the baseline is somehow turning Randy into a Greek statue is laughable on the level of government Marijuana commercials asserting it will turn your brain into fried eggs.

And people that take steroids don’t get monster physiques just because they take them either. You have to put a lot of work in the gym to get that big and/or lean.
Twitter: @Mike_Fagan_13
http://www.sackmikegoldberg.com
But the two aren’t even close. The effect of anabolic steroids is often to push levels thousands of percentage points above the normal level. The effect of testosterone replacement is only to restore diminished levels to baseline. It’s closer to surgery to repair something broken than any kind of performance enhancer.
The reason it annoys me is there’s such general ignorance about testosterone replacement that people equate it with HGH or other types of roid-alternatives that there aren’t tests for. That’s not the case.
The other thing that bugs me is that Rogan didn’t actually say Randy Couture does hormone replacement. The host asks him how atheletes can do so well into their 40’s, and he says that they can get more out of their bodies with a number of different things, including hormone replacement. He said that he did hormone replacement therapy himself, and the quote has been twisted out of context over and over again. I can’t even find a video anymore, but what was closer to a joke than anything else has been twisted into something entirely different over time.
by Michael Rome on Aug 28, 2009 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions
First off, logic seems to have confirmed the Couture HRT thing above.
Second, I’ve gone on record numerous times stating that I think people get too hyped up about steroids and PEDs.
Lastly, I wasn’t trying to compare why one would take steroids vs. getting hormone therapy. The point I was making was that, yes, even if Randy had therapy done, he still had to put in a bunch of hard work. People that take steroids also have to work hard. Steroids take people to levels they couldn’t reach without them. HRT takes people back to levels that couldn’t be at normally.
I’m pretty positive Randy had the procedure done, and it seems like logic corroborates that. I don’t think it’s wrong or immoral. I also don’t think Randy’s some superhuman that has freak genetics. It’s a testament to science and man’s ingenuity.
Twitter: @Mike_Fagan_13
http://www.sackmikegoldberg.com
There’s a few things at play. First, quite a few older fighters have tried HRT without experiencing any renewed success. It’s not really a magic elixir, and wasn’t widely available when Randy came back to beat Chuck and Tito at his then-advanced age.
I think logic knows quite a bit about UFC business, and I know he believes Randy does HRT, but I don’t think he knows it. I know Joe Rogan did not say it, even though everyone has twisted his quote.
Maybe he’s done it, maybe not. His management I’ve asked call it a complete bullshit internet rumor, but they wouldn’t admit it even if it was true. It’s possibly true, but there isn’t any evidence. There’s just a rumor that’s spun out of control on the UG and taken on a life of its own.
by Michael Rome on Aug 29, 2009 2:22 AM EDT up reply actions
But dude (regardless of if Randy does it or not) is hormone replacement not cheating? Its not natural tesosterone in your system, you are artificially increasing the natural levels of testosterone. The point of athletic competition is to see who is “the best” and “surgically” enhancing is just a fancy way of justifying cheating.
I am the bastard love child of Junie Browning and Diamond Dave Kaplan.

So Tommy John’s surgery, ligament replacemnt/repair, laser eye surgery, dental surgery, and any surgery to repair broken bones should all be considered cheating?

Nog looks in shape. this fight may not be as one sided as some people think. In the Mir fight it was plain to see that Nog was no where near in this kinda shape. I still give it to Randy due to the fact Nog tends to take too much of a beating in the early rounds to win a decision and i dont see him subing Randy.
I asked in a earlier post but I doubt anyone will answer since it’s so old so I’ll post it here.
Just got done watching Maia vs Stout and I wish I knew the answer to the question of did Demian Maia intend to dislocate Stout’s arm with the underhook while he was sweeping him? The way Maia reacted when the ref stopped the fight didn’t seem like he was all to suprised seemed like what he intended to do happened.
Thats a common sweep, to pull hard on the shoulder and get them rocking forward past their knees. Their knees get lighter and easier to flip over with a butterfly hook.
IMO the shoulder thing was a fluke, kinda like Cote blowing his knee or that Salaverry guy hurting someone’s back with the body lock.
Randy is a little light?
Think he’s cutting down to go after one of the Brazilians?
