Keith Jardine: I match up well against Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida
On the Lavar Arrington Show with Chad Dukes, Keith Jardine had the following to say:
-- His awkward style makes him a good match-up for both Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida.
-- Fedor Emelianenko is ducking fighters by not competing in the UFC.
-- Randy Couture should "pick Nogueira apart" this Saturday at UFC 102
-- He flirted with the idea of jumping to heavyweight to compete against slower opposition.
-- Shane Carwin is the best heavyweight in the UFC
-- He got the gigs in "Crank 2" and "Gamer" by running into the writers/directors of the movies at a cafe in New Mexico after flying home after the Chuck Liddell fight.
-- Naturally, he predicts GSP would defeat Anderson Silva if they ever fought.

interesting!?!?
i dont know about the lyoto/anderson part or that carwin is the best in the ufc though.
Everyone has a game plan, untell they get hit.
If by good match up he means...
that he would be outstanding highlight reel fodder for Lyoto and Anderson than I totally agree.

If he couldn’t handle Houston’s muay thai, The Spider’s would make him look like he’s standing still.

He had the most random and out of place cameo in the history of movies in Crank 2, and it was awesome.
I think I’m gonna have to rent that movie now just to see the Dean of Mean.
But if you are stupid, you will be beaten with a stick - Proverbs 10:13
Saw Gamer the other day, and there was a moment when I asked myself “is that Jardine”? I don’t believe he hasn’t any lines, which is good because every piece of dialogue in that film is terrible.
“Black Dynamite” is the fun movie of the fall (“I sell drugs to the community”)
Was there a moment that you asked yourself “What the hell am I doing here?”
I STILL poop rainbows.

Every minute, but then I remembered that it’ll look bad if I walk out on a client’s movie.
Plus my date loved it. She’s an idiot. My kind of girl.

Should I ask who your client is? Do I care to know? not really sure. You have a client who can claim a movie in one form or another and you are a member on BE. Are you in a position to impact MMA? if yes, then I might care who you are and what you do. If not, then no big deal. Just kind of analytical, don’t mean to be nosey.
I probably shouldn’t tell you who I am or my clients are, since it’ll be pretty easy for them to infer who I am. And nothing looks worse than bad-mouthing a clients flick.
I apologize for the mmalogic routine. I just had to vent about “Gamer”. Shit it sucked.
Is there anyone that Jardine thinks is a bad matchup for him? It seems like he always is talking about his awkward style being his advantage. Truth is, I think he is slow. I think his striking has to be different or he would get beat to the punch. I think he is smart enough to know that. I think his brain is his biggest weapon.
I agree that he’s a bit unusual, but he drives that point so hard you’d think he’s Jon Jones. In a LHW division loaded with innovative styles, he’s hardly some untrainable matchup.
I STILL poop rainbows.

Right, he’s not some enigma that can’t be solved, but think his greatest asset is that he is good at solving other fighters. I think he has trouble utilizing his own info on other fighters due to a lack of raw talent, but for the fighters at his camp, it is priceless. He does the most with what he has and will someday run a camp that does well, that is if he doesn’t already co-run a camp with Jackson.
Few things..
Carwin is unproven at HW..
A. Silva & Machida would walk through him.. He is a striker & a slow lumbering one at that.. His leg kicks would do nothing for him in a fight with either of those guys..
GSP is too small and would get get worked over by Silva much like Keith would if he went back to HW.. Carwin & Lesnar would crush Jardine at HW..
A) Carwin trains with Jackson.
B) Jardine trains with Jackson.
C) GSP trains with Jackson.
I STILL poop rainbows.

Like that matters to me or what's fact & whats bias ???
Do you think I was unaware of those little tidbits of information ??
Bottom line is Jardine is delusional for even thinking it, let alone speaking in a public forum about it.. Because the bottom line is GSP is better than Jardine as is Evans, both whom he trains with..
Carwin is a flavor of the month kind of guy IMO.. Sure he has got a hell of a right hand, but we’ll see if he is, who he thinks he is come Nov.. Brock will test him..
I agree that Carwin is a flavor of the month type guy, but his size and wrestling make the brock fight a good one and I am still waiting for Brock to get clocked and see if he can take it or see if he wants out of the ring asap.
I agree about the Lesnar/Carwin matchup appeal..
But I think you’ll see a big gap in actual wrestling talent come fight night.. I think you’ll see it heavily favor Lesnar & Carwin will have to display if he has a gas tank because Brock will push him and push a pace that warrants heavy breathing..
Nelson’s camp would be a fool not to exploit this IMO..
Brock has 2 things to worry about in the Carwin fight..
The big right hand & shooting in with his neck down & getting caught in a guillotine choke early in the fight.. Although I think past the first round this wont be an issue..
Call it a hunch but Carwin get’s overwhelmed late in the first round and finished off by TKO stoppage in the second… Brock wearing him down by BIG BEAR MAULING..
I wouldnt worry about that too much..
Brock has a great scramble from his back.. Plus being arguably one of the strongest men in the division, it will be hard for someone to hold him down on his back.. He can bench the weight of anyone in the division with ease..
Watch his training video.. He throws 300 plus pounders off from his back.. He has great hips and lateral base.. He shifts weight hard & fast.. His scramble is very underrated because most guys haven’t seen it in a fight, outside the Couture fight.. But watch how he grabs Randy’s legs and hip tosses Randy in the scramble.. That’s pretty impressive considering Randy’s wrestling pedigree in MMA..
Great hips, yes I have seen this. Throwing up 300, he sure as shit should be able to do that, its only his weight. Fighters should be able to handle there weight. But that being said, a wrestler on his back is weak. They are, counter to what you would think, unable to escape there hips out and create space. If he is still a pure wrestler, then he can be beaten that way by a big guy like carwin, but if he is really adapting then it might not be a big issue at all. But when was the last time he has a guy of equal size on top of him? its just another angle that make the fight a good one.
I dont think anyone in the HW division is going to have the strength to hold him down.. He’s gonna have that Liddell wrestling base.. Even if he gets taken down, he’ll get up quick.. The reason most wrestlers didn’t do good on their backs is because they weren’t trained to not panic.. I dont think that to be the case with Lesnar though.. He showed great poise in the Randy fight.. That was a huge fight and if anything the nerves would have gotten to him in that fight.. Randy made a play to take him down and actually had him on his butt. This is the point where a lot of pure wrestlers panic.. He did not.. He got up like Liddell would do so many times before.. I dont think he fears anyone’s wrestling in MMA.. Because no other Olympic caliber wrestlers are in MMA in the HW division.. Coleman is LHW & too old.. Randy is too small and too old.. That doesn’t leave very many people with a pure wrestling base to outwork him on technique out of the HW division IMO..
I completely disagree with wrestlers panicing on there back. Top level wrestlers has a lot of mat time and they are comfortable out there. When a pure wrestler gets in a bad position they panic a little. My coach used to yell at me “You’re drowning, you need to get up” as a way of imposing that panic. Its not that they are trained to not panic, its that they know they are in a bad position. Look at Kos on his back. He looks paniced because he has very little in his toolbox to escape from his back. and he has much more ring time then brock. The fight with randy didn’t answer any of my questions because a. Randy is not known for hitting that hard and b. he is a tiny guy compared to brock. I don’t think Brock will be able to man handle Carwin like that. I also question Brocks gas tank, but not against Carwin. I think this fight will prove that Carwin needs to train full time. I think he will gas and Brock will take it.
Carwin is not that big ..
He is close to equal weight & just a tad shorter than Brock..
But his mass is no where near what Brock’s is.. Brock trains with current Olympic & NCAA wrestling champions.. Most of his partners are all over the 300 lbs mark.. He has little trouble picking them up and throwing them around.. I dont see Carwin to be any different than Mir or Herring.. Herring is the same size as Carwin.. Just taller..
Brock wont have trouble wrestling with Carwin, regardless of size.. He has a division 1 record of 106-5.. All those guys were of equal size to Brock and much younger at the time.. He had no trouble with the best of the best in the NCAA.. Carwin was a division 2 wrestler.. That’s a HUGE difference in skill level and competition..
If they both weigh the same on planet earth then they have the same mass. Natural size is Brocks advantage. He is built big. Some guys bulk up and he is big. Carwin is a case of a big guy, but gives up some (a very little size) to Brock. Herring and Mir are not as big as there weights would lead you to believe. They don’t watch there weight in the same way as Lesner and Carwin. Lesner and Carwin have had this size advantage through there career. Just like in MMA, there is a drought of big guys filling out the HWs on college teams. They are few and far between. I would love to see numbers of what % of college HW cut at all. Its a huge advantage that Brock and Carwin had. And you would be surprised at how close D1 and D2 wrestlers are. Programs are vastly different, but the cream of the D2 ranks can def compete with D1. Would be a good question for Carwin, why didn’t he wrestle D1? Anyway, what I am saying about D1 v. D2 may not apply to HW, but I know for a fact it applies to the lower, more crowded weights.
Why exactly does Brock
have to worry about the guillotine from Carwin? Have you seen him sub anyone that I have not or does he have a BJJ belt that I am not aware of?
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
Yes
I have seen him sub a few guys.. He is strong & big.. He will have the strength in the beginning of the fight if he latches on to Brock to hold it..
You have? When?
I admit not knowing much about Carwin, but I have never heard anything about him subbing someone. And on that note, if he did not get guillotined by Mir when he shot in, why would he have to worry about it with Carwin?
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
Watch his early fights on youtube..
or fight finder on Sherdog would have shown you he has 5 submission wins & 2 of them were by Guillotine Choke..
Mir never went was in position for a guillotine because in the first fight he didn’t expect Brock to be that fast and wasn’t expecting the TD like that.. He never had another chance for one in both fights.. All the other TD’s from Brock were done by Frank getting dropped from the punch or from Frank initiating the TD in the 1st round of the second fight.. Brock’s only other TD was from the clinch when Mir went with a flying knee..
Never an opening for Brock to shoot on Mir.. Most people have overlooked it but Mir forced the TD in the 1st round of the second fight.. Go back and watch him jump to guard and roll for the knee…
I will have to check out those
fights, but if Brock was smart enough to avoid being in that position w/Mir then I have to assume the same for Carwin. Interesting take, but I would be surprised if that happens. If Carwin is smart, he will work on his td defense tons.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
He can work for the next 3 years on TD defense only..
That wont stop Lesnar from getting him down at some point in a 25 minute fight..
Lesnar is a guy with a gas tank.. He is used to being physically competitive for 20-30 minute stretches.. He isn’t going to quit if he can’t get Carwin down within a round or 2.. Eventually he’ll get one and from there he has the gas to keep pushing on the ground..
Agree completely,
but Carwin’s real chance in this fight has to be his ability to fend off the td’s and/or get back up if Lesnar is successful. Unless he can tag Lesnar early & pound him out.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
I would add that trying to fit a Christmas ham in a sidewalk crack isn’t easily done.
Lesnar’s neck measurment is like -3.5", how could Carwin get his forearm in there?

I agree with your post the most.
Out of every other comment I read on here, yours stays in line with the perspective that most people do who understand mma a little better than just watching the UFC.
Authority, you may want to reword this entry. It sounds as if you’re are saying A. Silva & Machida would walk through Carwin. I assume you’re talking about Jardine.
I just you to clarify, thank you
Yeah it was in reference to Jardine..
I dont know how to edit .. :)
lol
I'll clarify my reasoning for those statements..
Regarding Jardine:
1. He lacks good wrestling.. This was exposed by Evans on TUF season 2. And has followed him into the UFC. He is primarily a striker & a weak one at that.. His hurky jerky style is slow and lumbering for his size.. Guys with textbook striking get to him right down the middle.. Page showed that he leaves himself open straight down the pipe.. Silva & Machida are both top of the food chain strikers.. They’d pick and paw him to sleep ease..
2. If he thinks he matches up well with arguably the top 2 best strikers in MMA at this point, he’s just punch drunk.. A guy that got clobbered by Wand & Alexander thinks he’ll take some clean ones on the chin from the better strikers ??
3. His biggest weapon has been leg kicks to keep his opponents at a distance.. This wont work against Silva or Machida.. So what’s he gonna bring to the table without wrestling ?? Wrestling is the “only” weakness we can say they may have..
I agree with everything except only weakness. I am still waiting for someone with a real boxers ability to throw fast, straight punches to come into mma. Of course he would have to be versed in wrestling and bjj but I would like to see how those two react to a flurry of explosive, accurate strikes.
Can't speak for Machida but..
Silva was a world MT champion with a record of 39-1.. He has faced fast hard hitters with great traditional stances..
Silva has a chin..
I know he has great MT, but I still don’t think anyone throws a punch like a boxer – it’s all they do. Go to a gym (I’m sure you have actually seen this) and spar and it’s shocking how much faster top boxers throw punches compared to other martial artists. (I guess we’ll find out if he ever boxes RJJ)
If someone tried to throw punches like a boxer they’d get kicked or tackled.
People need to stop expecting excellent boxing technique in an mma match. Boxing technique works with the boxing rules.

Jardine will never get a shot
at Machida, but he may get his wish if Dana decides to sacrifice him to Silva. I never mind a guy saying he is not scared & will fight anyone, but going so far as to say you match up well with the greats in the UFC currently moments after being KO’d viciously by Wand & barely edging Vera doesn’t lend much credence to your words.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
I’m thinking Jardine would be Silva’s next opponent at LHW. Or soon thereafter. Jardine and Silva both beat Forrest, so why not be next in line? He’s perfect for Silva and he’d be KO’d pretty much as fast as Wandy took him out. Perfect highlight reel fight for Silva, since Jardine is always game.
I love me some Sexyama!
A lot of this talk
is likely simply hopes of Jardine’s to get a high profile/large payday fight. Obviously to ever get a shot w/Machida, Machida would have to lose the belt because Jardine will never be a top contender.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
True,
but those guys get pd when they never back down from tough fights. And it looks like Jardine has definitely recognized his niche & realizes how to profit the most from it.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
call me crazy, but i’m guessing silva wants challenges, and big paydays. not sure jardine fits either category. no disrespect to the man, but he’s a step down from fighting griffin.
Agree completely,
but if there no one else for him to face & he wants a fight soon maybe he would take it.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
i suppose. i still think his next fight will either be couture (if he gets an impressive win over nog), or a rematch with henderson. anythings possible though.
Those are both credible
ideas, but if Couture wins he will likely need months to prepare.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
His fight record would look redundant, redundant...

“Fedor Emelianenko is ducking fighters by not competing in the UFC.”
I like Jardine a lot, but this lowers him a bit.
No its not.
Fedor is getting the deal in which M-1 prefers.
“Ducking” implies you are scared to fight someone and try to get out of it. Fedor doesn’t care who he fights and much less, is he scared of anyone.
are you fedor by any chance????
because if you are, then you would REALLY know what he feels, but sence i dout you are(been wrong before) then how can you say he isnt scared of anyone????

its most likely not his fault!!
they asked him if he thought that, and he said what dana would like him to say, which is “yes”, therefor upping his chances at better fights for being a kissass.
or that is what he really thinks(i think this is the real one)
who knows??

I guess you can’t more bias than Jardine was :)

But there is definitely a history here & I am not stating my opinion. I always liked Lavar even when he was @Penn St, but it always drove me crazy that he could not stay on the field.

REGULATE!
I think I might be just about the only person that doesn’t think 106.7 talks about the redskins too much. I love them. I even sport my Lavar jersey proudly when it is called for. Things just didn’t align for the man. injury, unstable team/coach/defense. Does he have a for real interest in MMA (I never really listen to the show, I work at that time)
Truth hurts...
If Fedor has a problem with Jardine’s statement he should ask Dana to fight him…O wait that’s right….
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
really what is the big deal he didn’t sign with the UFC get over it. Not signing with them isn’t going to affect his legacy any way you look at it he’s still one of the best of all time.
I think it affects his legacy...
Agree to disagree…Think what would happen if Tom Brady sat out all the Super Bowls…
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
I get what your saying but Fedor has already had a great career and given us a lot of great fights I mean joining the UFC would possibly add to and cement his legacy but not signing doesn’t really take away from an already incredible career
i can dig that.
i guess just as a fan of his and the sport i really wanted him to sign…who knows what the future holds i suppose
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
Yeah I get what your saying I would love to see him in the UFC at heavy or light heavy but there are a lot of guys I would like to see fight in the UFC I guess I just feel lucky when a dream match comes along and don’t necessarily expect it. Not saying you do.
Here's the thing about Emelianenko
Everyone speculates on what Emelianenko thinks or wants, whatever. But what he HAS said is that he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about his legacy. So if he fights Ricco Rodriguez, Paul Buentello, Hong Man Choi, Pete Rose, or Brock Lesnar, it doesn’t matter. He doesn’t care what we think. He’s just putting food on the table in Stary Oskol. Get off his jock until he starts initimating that he WOULD beat the best the UFC has to offer, then doesn’t step up. And for the record, Keith Jardine would last about as long as Tim Sylvia did against Emelianenko. Now I’m done.
"You're gonna love my nuts" -Shlomi
Jardine kinda fights like some sort of orangutang monkey. I think he would actually frustrate Silva and Lyoto becuase of his awkward monkey style Kung-Fu. I doubt he could win though.
for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.
He fights like an old lady. He’s always bowed and shaky, throws those funny arm punches…
