UFC Confirms Ten Bouts for 104 in October
Promoted to the front page from the FanPosts by Luke Thomas.
Following the official announcement of UFC 104 on October 24th in Los Angeles, featuring a light heavyweight championship fight between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, the UFC has now officially updated their card for the event with nine other previously rumored fights:
MAIN CARD:
Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Rua - light heavyweight championship
Sean Sherk vs. Gleison Tibau
Joe Stevenson vs. Spencer Fisher
Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
PRELIM CARD:
Antoni Hardonk vs. Pat Barry
Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen
Jorge Rivera vs. Rob Kimmons
Ryan Bader vs. Eric Schafer
Kyle Kingsbury vs. Razak Al-Hassan
Stefan Struve vs. Chase Gormley
Notable are the relegations of Yushin Okami (yet again) and TUF winner Ryan Bader to the evening's preliminary card in favor of a Sean Sherk-Gleison Tibau fight which has both fighters coming off of losses.
Cain Velasquez vs. Ben Rothwell is also rumored for this card and will likely be added soon as the fifth main card fight.

I am still confused as to why Shogun gets a title shot. I guess if you KO Liddell you get an instant title shot.
"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"
Because Rampage chose to go in the direction of TUF 10 with Rashad.
http://www.fourouncestofreedom.com
Right! So after Evans beats Rampage, then what?
"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"
Then Rashad wakes up, relocates his jaw, and Rampage gets the next title shot.

Negative
I see Rashad running away with this fight.

How exactly? The only thing he might do better than Rampage is wrestle and he quit doing that over a year ago.

i think after the Machida fight
At least, I hope, that Rashad realizes that he can’t go toe-to-toe with the best strikers in the game. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he goes back to his wrestlings roots and GNPs for a decision.
I really like Rampage, too. As a matter of fact, I like him more than Rashad. I just don’t think he’s got a really good chance of beating Sugar.
by Screwface on Aug 25, 2009 10:59 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
That is unless Rashad goes all self-agrandizing and thinks he can box with Rampagre.
by Screwface on Aug 25, 2009 11:01 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
The only thing is
Rampage’s takedown defense is fucking epic. He stuffed Hendo throughout their fight, and even took Dan down a few times. And Dan is a guy who is great at mixing up strikes and takedowns.
Rashad, on the other hand, hasn’t displayed any kind of adeptness at transitioning, and is either in wrestlemania mode, or attempting his best RJJ impression. But never both, and just wrestling or just boxing won’t be enough to beat Page. Jackson’s power punching and ridiculous chin will be too much for Evans improved boxing; Quinton’s strength and solid wrestling will be enough to keep Rashad at bay.
Now don’t get me wrong, fighters improve & evolve, but from what i’ve seen in the ring/ cage from both Rashad and Page, I definitely give it to Page.

Speed > Rampage
My gut tells me that Rashad is going to be too fast for Rampage. He is also coming off of his first loss which is pretty good motivation.
"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"
Technique > Speed.

Because
The only guy to beat Rampage (and arguably at that) in the UFC, Forrest Griffin, is lightning quick.
Be serious.
I STILL poop rainbows.
Then I look at the rankings and think; Who else should get one?
"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"
Rampage chose TUF. Rashad just had a title shot, and is on TUF, and Forrest was coming off a loss. Who else should have gotten the shot?
Don Frye. He would have beat the hell out of that piss drinkin Brazilian

At least...
BJ wouldn’t end up looking like Rashad… Granite chin = decision loss.
by Screwface on Aug 25, 2009 11:04 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Well
I don’t exactly agree with that. Lyoto’s just recently started a serious S&C program, and the results have shown (2 brutal KO’s over previously undefeated, elite opponents). I also don’t think that Rashad has a garbage chin.
In all honesty, even motivated BJ doesn’t make it the distance w/ Machida. IMO

Hahaha. That’s what I’m saying. I wish Carwin was still on this card, though. Love Machida and Shogun but Carwin really made this card for me.

This card seems..
… monumentally weak for the UFCs return to LA. Outside of the main event, Fisher vs Joe, and Cain vs Ben, I’m not all that impressed. I figured they’d stack it.
Seems like a pretty good card to me.

Myeh..
I guess it’s not as bad as UFC 96, but I thought they would pull out all stops in the CA return.
Why? They’ve been doing just fine without Cali and besides, it’s not like LA is some great sports town. They don’t even have an NFL team for god’s sake.

The main cards looks great to me. Of the ten main card fighters, Tibau is the only one not in the top 25 of his weight class. I am actually looking forward to all five main card bouts.

this card is terrible
i was actually thinking about going to this show live back when cain/carwin was still on… looking at it now it is not appealing in the least. i don’t care about most of the fighters on it, and the main event i feel is gonna be very one sided
Srsly?
I actually think it’s a very good card…
You’ve got Machida/ Shogun for the title (a fight which has p4p implications), you’ve got Okami/ Sonnen which is between a top 5 MW and a fringe top 10 fighter, as well as Johnson/ Yoshida, which will likely vault the winner into WW title contention.
And don’t count Rua out man, Shogun @ 100% is a force. If he comes in shape (mentally & physically), then I see this fight being VERY competitive. I’d even give Shogun like a 40/60 chance to win if he’s on his game

Not sure why someone would say this is a weak card. The televised portion isn’t any significant drop off from the past few events, to me.
Also, FREE OKAMI.

Someone in the UFC must like Kyle Kingsbury. Didn’t he lose his last fight?
Good to see Rumble on the main card.
While Bader has some KOs/TKOs, he resorts back to lay n pray as well.
Hardonk vs Barry should be a fun striking battle.
Machida all the way!
Yeah, but it's still not on the event page

It’s hard for me to think of a less appealing LW matchup, on paper, than Gleison Tibau vs. Sean Sherk.
Have you seen Roli’s pornstache recently? Don Frye might be envious of it.

rumble johnson against the very good japanese fellow is my fav fight
when johnson wins he’ll be one step closer to meeting gsp. i believe he will beat him too. 5 inches taller, faster and maybe stronger. the only loss johnson has in the ufc is that poke in the eye loss to burns that the ref did not see. gsp has superior wrestling skills but i see johnson jabbing alot and waiting for gsp go for the takedown. then i see johnson use a knee of foot crack to the face to win that fight . rumble on!

Burns is not his only loss
Clementi submitted Johnson…whether or not you want to bring up Rumble taking that fight on short notice and having a terrible weight cut, it’s still a loss.

What is the deal with all these people acting like Johnson is the greatest fighter ever? The guy has talent, sure, but who has he ever beaten? Chad Reiner? Tommy fucking Speer? The guy has never even fought a top-25 fighter and now he can beat one of the top P4P guys in the world? Come the fuck on.

WAR SHOGUN
Shogun will be the LHW Champion by the end of 2009… Machida better come on his A game or Shogun will kick him in the leg and make it bleed like he did to Chuck on his first kick, then fake with a right and knock him out with his left… I don’t care what the MMA fans say how he looked so tired when he fought Coleman… Why don’t you try having two ACL surgeries then coming back and fighting a tough Coleman… He did beat the American Psycho mind you… Shoguns next fight was against a Chuck Liddell who know if he lost his next he would be finished, so you know he came to fight, however Shogun came light on his toes… I take Shogun by 3rd round, brutal ground and pound… Fight of the year guarantee…
Shogun looked so Amazing (Kanye West) how he was light on his toes and covering up when Chuck came in with a couple of punches, then kicking Chuck in the ribs as Chuck was coming if for the kill…
WAR SHOGUN MMA FANS!!!

Machida has no game other than his A game. Leg kicking Machida gets you punched in the face. The leaping left hook may be a decent weapon, but Machida has shown himself vulnerable to it in the past and has probably trained extensively against it.
