UFC Confirms Ten Bouts for 104 in October

Promoted to the front page from the FanPosts by Luke Thomas.

Following the official announcement of UFC 104 on October 24th in Los Angeles, featuring a light heavyweight championship fight between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, the UFC has now officially updated their card for the event with nine other previously rumored fights:

34ql8n4_medium

MAIN CARD:

Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Rua - light heavyweight championship

Sean Sherk vs. Gleison Tibau

Joe Stevenson vs. Spencer Fisher

Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida

PRELIM CARD:

Antoni Hardonk vs. Pat Barry

Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen

Jorge Rivera vs. Rob Kimmons

Ryan Bader vs. Eric Schafer

Kyle Kingsbury vs. Razak Al-Hassan

Stefan Struve vs. Chase Gormley

Notable are the relegations of Yushin Okami (yet again) and TUF winner Ryan Bader to the evening's preliminary card in favor of a Sean Sherk-Gleison Tibau fight which has both fighters coming off of losses.

Cain Velasquez vs. Ben Rothwell is also rumored for this card and will likely be added soon as the fifth main card fight.

I am still confused as to why Shogun gets a title shot. I guess if you KO Liddell you get an instant title shot.

Because Rampage chose to go in the direction of TUF 10 with Rashad.

by ufc4 on Aug 25, 2009 10:32 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

i think after the Machida fight

At least, I hope, that Rashad realizes that he can’t go toe-to-toe with the best strikers in the game. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he goes back to his wrestlings roots and GNPs for a decision.

I really like Rampage, too. As a matter of fact, I like him more than Rashad. I just don’t think he’s got a really good chance of beating Sugar.

by Screwface on Aug 25, 2009 10:59 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Well, Rashad has a chance if you think he’s going to change his gameplan, it just seems to me like he wants to be a striker now and will just stand there and slug it out with Page, which is probably the worse thing he could do.

Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

by ufc4 on Aug 26, 2009 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions

The only thing is

Rampage’s takedown defense is fucking epic. He stuffed Hendo throughout their fight, and even took Dan down a few times. And Dan is a guy who is great at mixing up strikes and takedowns.

Rashad, on the other hand, hasn’t displayed any kind of adeptness at transitioning, and is either in wrestlemania mode, or attempting his best RJJ impression. But never both, and just wrestling or just boxing won’t be enough to beat Page. Jackson’s power punching and ridiculous chin will be too much for Evans improved boxing; Quinton’s strength and solid wrestling will be enough to keep Rashad at bay.

Now don’t get me wrong, fighters improve & evolve, but from what i’ve seen in the ring/ cage from both Rashad and Page, I definitely give it to Page.

Speed > Rampage

My gut tells me that Rashad is going to be too fast for Rampage. He is also coming off of his first loss which is pretty good motivation.

I don’t exactly agree with that. Lyoto’s just recently started a serious S&C program, and the results have shown (2 brutal KO’s over previously undefeated, elite opponents). I also don’t think that Rashad has a garbage chin.

In all honesty, even motivated BJ doesn’t make it the distance w/ Machida. IMO

by kanodogg on Aug 25, 2009 9:37 PM EDT reply actions

Srsly?

I actually think it’s a very good card…

You’ve got Machida/ Shogun for the title (a fight which has p4p implications), you’ve got Okami/ Sonnen which is between a top 5 MW and a fringe top 10 fighter, as well as Johnson/ Yoshida, which will likely vault the winner into WW title contention.

And don’t count Rua out man, Shogun @ 100% is a force. If he comes in shape (mentally & physically), then I see this fight being VERY competitive. I’d even give Shogun like a 40/60 chance to win if he’s on his game

Shogun will be the LHW Champion by the end of 2009… Machida better come on his A game or Shogun will kick him in the leg and make it bleed like he did to Chuck on his first kick, then fake with a right and knock him out with his left… I don’t care what the MMA fans say how he looked so tired when he fought Coleman… Why don’t you try having two ACL surgeries then coming back and fighting a tough Coleman… He did beat the American Psycho mind you… Shoguns next fight was against a Chuck Liddell who know if he lost his next he would be finished, so you know he came to fight, however Shogun came light on his toes… I take Shogun by 3rd round, brutal ground and pound… Fight of the year guarantee…

Shogun looked so Amazing (Kanye West) how he was light on his toes and covering up when Chuck came in with a couple of punches, then kicking Chuck in the ribs as Chuck was coming if for the kill…
