The bad news train just keeps on rolling for Drew Fickett:
"The Master" was KOd by a knee from Freddy Sandoval at Rage in the Cage 133 last week. According to the Albuquerque Journal, Fickett lay motionless on the canvas for a few minutes and was transported on a stretcher to a local hospital, where it was determined that the knee fractured his orbital and possibly other facial bones.
Fickett has gone from submitting Josh Neer, Kurt Pellegrino, and Josh Koscheck in the UFC, to a five-fight losing streak in 2009 on the regional circuit, with four of those losses coming via knockout.

Such a waste of talent. It’s too bad. I’m sure people will make their jokes here, but his downfall really is sad.

If anyone has the nerve to make a joke about this they’re getting IP banned from this site.

Well, the picture posted with the article is practically begging for one, that’s why I said that.

It’s not begging for anything except by people who are juvenile. No adult looks at that and says “Well, I wasn’t going to make a joke, but boy, that picture sure makes it tempting.”

If you hadn’t posted that warning, I think I would disagree with you on that, because this place has many posters who are (a) not adults yet; and (b) lack maturity. I completely understand the warning and completely agree with it though.

settle down guys. no need for preemptive strikes. nobody posted anything and we’re already fired up.
If you look 2 posts down and the Wandy surgery thread, I think you can see why that warning was necessary.

Intervention
Someone who knows him needs to get him the help he needs. Until then, he should be kept out of the cage for his own good.
A wise man told me don't argue with fools
Cause people from a distance can't tell who is who
I completely agree
It hurts me to the core to see someone who is desperately in need of help and guidance but it also makes me mad because he’s given the opportunity to do what he loves (and he’s good at it!) but is flushing it down the toilet.
I'm the kind of girl who loves to watch a GOOD fight!

seriously. sad to see. his being barred from fighting b/c he was DRUNK at the weigh-in is a telling sign if nothing else is as well.

Considering that this guy might be fighting alcholism , I think that picture is in really poor taste , classy.
Yet it sums up the problems quite nicely.

Well surely there are worse things that can happen to you than lose a string of fights. Why is this so sad? There has to be losers just like there has to be winners. Yes I agree, It sucks to lose, but its just part of the game. Is he an alchoholic, or what is his deal anyway?
That should be your new sig.

What is sad is the guy showing up for a fight drunk, and losing his job with Zuffa because of his drinking, and being banned from ADCC because of drunken escapades, and …
This injury happens to soccer goalies all the time, where they go down and take a knee to the face. My cousin shattered his orbital bone and knocked out a piece of the roof of his mouth. Good Drs have seen this injury before and know what to do.
Dont get down on Forrest, no one has moves like Anderson Silva.
Why is it that people like Kimo or Crazy Horse are the punching bags of the MMA community but Fickett is some sacred cow? It’s sad that we have to watch people around us self-destruct, but arguing over the taste of a photo seems to miss the point to me.
Maybe I’m jaded because of my personal experience with alcoholics, but he posed for the damn picture.
I think the difference is that Kimo, Crazy Horse, et. al. tend to make really, really stupid decisions, while Fickett seems (no one can say for sure, but it certainly looks this way) to be battling a substance abuse problem. There’s a difference between Fickett’s seeming inability to function due to alcohol, and Bennett selling coke and being arrested for domestic violence, no?
"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."
Yea he may not be able to function because of the alcohol but he’s the one that consumes the alcohol. Getting hammered before a fight is a poor decision, no?

Isn’t crazy horse more or less adored for beeing such an awesome fighter despite his problems more than he is riddiculed, I haven’t seen kimo that hated upon either. Regardless of what one thinks of how ppl should live their lives I find it tragic that a person who showed promise, for whatever reason, simply can’t seem to get it together again, I see that as a loss for the sport regardless.
On an side note tangentually related to this subject. I was reading here and found
The death of both bouts can be traced back to Thursday June 26, 2008. When Strikeforce officials needed a late replacement opponent for 170 pound Luke Stewart, Fickett was there to answer the call. While sitting in the airport Fickett’s plans were abruptly vetoed when his manger at the time Bryan Hamper received a profanity laced voice message from Mark Pavelich President of the Maximum Fighting Championship.
I went to middle school with Bryan Hamper and that middle school fed into two high schools. He went to my rival high school and although in a different weight class, we wrestled in the same matches. His team was much better and I admittedly sucked. He won a state title and I did roll with him when we had combined county practice before regional. This story is how I found out that he is a sports agent. crazy world.
Crazy!
I love weird coincidences like that.
