HEAVYWEIGHTS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS!
"I'm 33 years old, and I have a lot to do in my career still. At least, I've got to fight a couple of more years." - Former UFC and Pride heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira. I'm going to write the next great novel. Or I'll continue toiling away at some niche blog. (Bloody Elbow)
"I want my son to grow up knowing that being a man is not about getting paid to drink beer but it is about providing for your family and making honorable choices even when those choices are not in alignment with what most people would choose." - #1 heavyweight contender Shane Carwin, manly. (Cage Potato)
"I hate that he disrespected the greatest sporting fans in the world and I can’t wait to fight him." - Carwin, explaining what he "hates" about champ Brock Lesnar and getting a Mick Foley approved cheap pop. (Sports Illustrated)
"We have no scripts in this sport, no predetermined earning amount and no predetermined outcomes." - Carwin, unmanly. (Yahoo)
"As long as we’re boxing with each other, I feel very comfortable against Cheick Kongo." - Former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir, on rumored opponent Cheick Kongo. Kongo, for the uninitiated, is a kickboxer. Mir plays jiu-jitsu. (MMA Mania)
"You know, I don’t worry about [retirement]." - Former UFC heavyweight champ Randy Couture, 46, not actively considering retirement. (Canadian Press)
"How cool would it be to submit Nogueira?" - Couture, should start considering retirement. (MMA Fanhouse)
"If he stays out of the cage and doesn't fight myself, Lesnar, Cain Velasquez, Shane Carwin and some of the top heavyweights, he can always have an argument." - Mir, questioning Fedor Emelianenko's reasons for eschewing the UFC for Strikeforce. One of these fighters is different. One of these fighters doesn't belong. (MMA Fanhouse)
"I'm in the best shape since 2005." - Nogueira
GOOFUS AND GALLANT
"[My reaction to the the positive test was] a little bit of disbelief." - Perennial middleweight gatekeeper Chris Leben, on his positive test for steroids at UFC 89. (MMA Fanhouse)
"I had taken something several months before the fight and I didn’t realize that it stayed in your system for up to eight months." - Leben, world's dumbest steroid user. (Brandon Sun)
"[I took the steroids] to help training and I wanted to lose some weight, and I guess curiosity killed the cat, so to speak." - Leben. Curiosity, right.
"Everybody wants to be bigger, faster, stronger. I’m no expert on the subject." - Leben, thanks for enlightening us.
"I didn’t know it was banned but, still, with that said, I am responsible." - Cole Province, popped for taking a supplement that contained an anabolic agent. (Sherdog)
"I should have checked into it but I just want to make it clear that I took an over-the-counter supplement, not steroids." - Province
GOOD FLORIAN, BAD FLORIAN
"In my opinion, the major factor out of everything is the layoff." - Keith Florian, brother and trainer of Kenny Florian. That, and B.J. Penn being head and shoulders above anyone else at 155. (Fight Hype)
"Kenny got poked in the eye, which BJ is notorious for." - Florian, classy.
"He was hitting behind the head all of the time." - Florian, classier still.
"Kenny won’t say this, but I certainly will." - Florian, classiest.
KEN PAVIA MAKES SHIT UP?
"We’re not interested in Ricco Rodriguez, that was a Ken Pavia rumor." - Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, addressing rumors that his company was interested in using Rodriguez for Fedor Emelianenko's first bout. (Cage Writer)
"Brett Rogers is obviously one of the candidates, Alistair Overeem, (Sergei) Kharitonov, maybe Paul Buentello." - Coker, running down the list of contenders. Lots of shocking names being discussed.
BLAH BLAH BLAH I CAN BEAT ANDERSON SILVA BLAH BLAH BLAH
"Like Forrest said in his [prefight] interview, someone's going to beat him one day and say 'oh that's all you had to do?'" - Brandon Vera, on pound-for-pound king Anderson Silva. (Cage Writer)
"Forrest had a horrible gameplan going in. A lot of it was the outside pressure to make an exciting fight. Forrest rushed in and just got caught. Then he did it a second time and got knocked out." - Nate Marquardt, who already lost once to Silva, commenting on Forrest Griffin's performance. He was not impressed. (Pro MMA Radio)
PARTING SHOTS

"But I guarantee he'll be beaten more than he was against Akihiro Gono." - Former WEC middleweight champ Paulo Filho, taking time out of his chat with Jesus Christ to comment about budding superstar Gegard Mousasi. (Five Knuckles via Watch Kalib Run)
"One, it’s my daughter’s favorite show and two, I think it’s a chance to get some exposure to another audience for the UFC and myself." - Former UFC light heavyweight champ Chuck Liddell, who will be dancing with some hot Russian chick on Dancing With the Stars. (Sports Radio Interviews)
"He has ADHD and he’s had a prescription for Ritalin since he was a kid. He doesn’t want to take that. That’s worse than pot." - Cesar Gracie, making excuses for Nick Diaz's marijuana "habit." (Sherdog)
"Boxing is full of shit. I used to love the sport. Boxing is full of shit. The only reason I do it is for a good payday." - Paulie Malignaggi, robbed of a win over Juan Diaz. I don't care if this is a boxing quote on an MMA blog. It.is.fucking.awesome. (Bad Left Hook)

This man would very much enjoy getting paid to drink beer, Shane.

Carwin on Brock's taste in beer
This part of the quote is way funnier:
"[T]alking trash about your boss’s business partners is just ridiculous. I live in Colorado, the home of Coors, and me and my friends drink Bud Light. Can he really even like Coors? Or is he saying if you pay him enough money he will drink anything?"

Couture is never close to retirement. It’s one of the perks of being a super hero.
I think Mir smokes weed.
Chuck Liddell is officially a UFC legend from the past.
"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"
Mir must be smoking something stronger than weed
Frank, I didn’t know you liked to get wet.

Frank Mir is correct about Fedor.
The UFC’s Heavyweight Division is finally interesting again. The first time in years. It got remotely exciting when the prospect of Cro Cop coming into the division happened…. but Gonzaga ended that.
With a loaded division now, and most of the top up & coming fighters, its a better division to watch now.

Mir is correct about Fedor losing respect if he doesn’t fight UFC top level HWs. I don’t think anyone thinks that Fedor is ducking Mir though. I am laughing just thinking about the idea of Fedor avoiding a fight with Mir.
"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"
Somebody explain to me why
Paul Buentello is a better choice then Ricco Rodriguez and why Sergei is being considered he last lost to Jeff Monson.
If this was Brett Rogers I wouldnt have a problem with him facing Paul, Ricco, Jeff, or Sergei.
But we are talking the “#1 hw in the world” and “#1 on many p4p” list yet were gonna give him a guy that is not even in the top 10 hw rankings?
In a nut shell....
Fedor fights for StrikeForce. Beyond that; Fedor needs to built up a bit to the SF audience and casual public in general. One way to do that is to hype him up and then feed him a can. Then everyone says, “Man, did you see that guy, Fedor, kill that striking genius Buentello in that Strike Force fight on Showtime?!” Also it can be sold as a revenge match for Buentello mutilating “Baby Fedor”. Kind of like a big brother beating the hell out of the guy who beat up his baby brother thing. I don’t know but that’s the best I can come up with.
"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"
Baby Fedor
is still in a coma (since round 2 of the fight)
Just ridiculous matchmaking all around.

Why cant people ever just accept a loss
First BJ does it with GSP
Now Kieth Florian is making excuses for Kenny in his fight with BJ
You lose, you lose. So what. I understand you never want to lose but what you cant just accept the fact that at least on that night you were not the better fighter.
Props to Leben for being honest.

Very true
how much of a dumbass do you have to be to get caught juicing when he did his cycle months ahead of time? Hasn’t he ever heard of post cycle treatment? Or masking agents?

I’m always pro-honesty, but this also makes him look like an idiot which is a huge negative. Though I never though Chris was a smart guy.

Probably thought he wouldn’t be tested since it was overseas so he didn’t even bother trying to cover it up. Probably should have done a little more research ahead of time.

That’s not an error in grammar, so at best it’s the Spelling Maoist.
It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

There's no way
that Mir is gonna try and stay standing with Kongo for any longer than it takes him to get to the ground. He’s just playing his usual mind games (I hope, at least).
Cause srsly, I think Kongo might have some of the best striking in the game, period. He soundly outstruck Crocop (granted, nutshots were involved) and knocked Velasquez silly whenever he was even able to lay a hand on him. He has absolutely sick power in his hands, and kicks/ knees like a fucking mule. The only time I can even recall Cheick getting outstruck was against Yvel, early in his career.

“Forrest had a horrible gameplan going in.”
And Nate Marquardt would know – he lasted almost a minute and a half longer against Silva. Though I guess Forrest made it longer as a percentage of the total fight…

Yeah, I’m pretty sure he’s figured that one out by now Carwin, sheesh…
Frank Mir showed him that in the first fight

Exactly. Guys who make comments like Carwin’s just come off as ignorant, as if they’re talking about somebody who’s making their MMA debut from prowrestling, instead of the UFC heavyweight champion. I know some people are bitter about his fast road to the title, but it’s not like he faced easy competition to get there(Mir, Herring, Couture). Even Randy Couture got a title shot on his fourth fight.
