I had an uneasy feeling about Mishima after reading his comments about being unmotivated. I wonder how competitive the match actually was.

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

I thought it was pretty strange for Mishima to say the things he did, even if he was really feeling them.

Sounds like Otsuka really brought the action to Mishima, lots of takedowns and grinding him down on the floor.

It was a pretty fast paced fight in the opening round. Mishima was trying his best to enforce his old-man strength on Otsuka, and had a few good moments, getting top and raining punches. But, as I’d guessed, he gassed far quicker than Otsuka did (who really didn’t gas at all, all things considered), and that’s when his wheels fell off.

In the opening round, Otsuka’s hands couldn’t reach Mishima, but by the second, they were connecting since Mishima had begun to wear down. Mishima futilely shot for takedown attempts for the next two rounds, which is of course, Otsuka’s bread and butter. Otsuka stuffed, then ducked down and took the takedowns for himself, and then ground him down with oppressive grappling from top and ground and pound. Then, he’d stand up, kick Mishima’s legs, and the whole process would begin again as soon as Mishima got stood up.

Otsuka had a very impressive showing last night for sure. He still doesn’t have finishing power yet, but thankfully, he’s only 23. He can still develop that power (hopefully at 135 pounds rather than 145), and when he does, we may have another Crusher-type here in Japan.

Takafumi always brings the heat, so Mishima should have taken him seriously.

Brutal!

Good to see Chonan back in the win column.

Also, apparently Ackah destroyed Yanagisawa in about 10 seconds. Right high kick followed by hammerfists.
