Lesnar-carwin

Shane Carwin Also Hates Brock Lesnar's Taste in Beer

"Hate is a strong word, but yeah, I hate what he did after UFC 100. I hate that he disrespected the greatest sporting fans in the world and I can't wait to fight him.

Talking trash about your boss's business partners is just ridiculous. I live in Colorado, the home of Coors, and me and my friends drink Bud Light. Can he really even like Coors? Or is he saying if you pay him enough money he will drink anything?
...
I want my son to grow up knowing that being a man is not about getting paid to drink beer but it is about providing for your family and making honorable choices even when those choices are not in alignment with what most people would choose. I want my kids to know that contributing to society and earning your way through life is what this country was founded on."

This is getting stupid fast.

That quote sounds like something Hank Hill would say.

Engineers are dull.

thanks.

I’m about to graduate from Computer Engineering..

(although i don’t think i can be called an “engineer” cause there’s no board exams for computer engineers)

You’re lucky, at least you’ll probably run into some eccentric intresting types. I’m in mechanical, and everyone I work with seems to have been assembled from cardboard.

I first went for that, but then ended up Computer Science.

The thing is that Carwin is (in professional wrestling jargon) being a “white-meat babyface.” I see that he is trying to be the good guy while making Brock seem like this evil, bad guy, but it does make Carwin come off as corny. Since I am not a fan of Lesnar, I am still cheering for Carwin to win this.

… =

I do not think you can make it in the UFC without putting in the hours. That being said, there is a limited amount of hours that any athlete can really give to training without burning out. I think I am doing just fine. My reasons for keeping my job are not about the money or time. I have a young son that has been my rock through the highs of heading to the NFL, to the lows of no one in the NFL knowing [my] name. When everything seemed dark he was the light that kept me going. I knew right then that everything my mother had told me about getting my degree, putting my education before the NFL were as much for my well being as they were for those that were relying on me. I made a commitment to never get caught up in a quest that did not have some sort of guaranteed base for my family and I.

Leaving that part out kind of changes the context. He’s talking about having a backup plan and not putting all eggs in one basket. The beer line was a throw away to something discussed earlier.

So when he said, “I want my kids to know that contributing to society and earning your way through life is what this country was founded on.”, he’s talking about hard work and making sure taking care of ones family comes before taking care of ones personal ambitions, not beer.

Seems an important bit you left out. Without it, it makes his quote looks kind of stupid, like he is equating beer with what the country was founded on.

tsk tsk

not really.. it's on the same context..

the quote i placed doesn’t equate beer with country.. read it again..

it is about providing for your family and making honorable choices even when those choices are not in alignment with what most people would choose. I want my kids to know that contributing to society and earning your way through life is what this country was founded on.

that was about family, not beer..

contrary to what you think, i’m not tyring to make carwin look bad nor am i trying to make brock look good.. I’m just posting on what he said while not copy-pasting everything.. just because you have biases towards him, doesn’t mean that i have that too..

tsk tsk..

tsk tsk.

I just thought I should contribute.

The second part of your quote was a completely different part of the conversation, where he was discussing keeping his job while fighting MMA. You separated them with a “…” so that they seem to be on the same topic about beers.

Shoot, even the original article you are quoting made sure people knew that the two were separate:

An argument over domestic beer. Great fights have been built on less, I suppose. And if you’re wondering whether fighting for the UFC heavyweight title is enough to make Carwin quit his full-time job as an engineer, he’s got news for you:

Here ya go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy_of_quoting_out_of_context

I don’t think you did it on purpose, as you’re usually much better than this, but you can at least admit that your choice of quotes was misleading at best.

Oh, and good to see you’re still firmly on board the “omg you hate brock” excuse wagon.

by mythbuster on Aug 22, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions

im not on the omg you hate brock wagon..

I just don’t like that you implied that im a carwin hater/brock lover last time, and sorta seemed like you did so again now.. but anyway, that’s not the point, and i couldn’t care less how much you love/hate anyone as long as you don’t give me false labels and stuff..

and again, the quote isn’t out of context… just look at your explanation..

So when he said, "I want my kids to know that contributing to society and earning your way through life is what this country was founded on.", he’s talking about hard work and making sure taking care of ones family comes before taking care of ones personal ambitions, not beer.

doesn’t this line say almost the exact same thing?

it is about providing for your family and making honorable choices even when those choices are not in alignment with what most people would choose. I want my kids to know that contributing to society and earning your way through life is what this country was founded on."

I don’t get what you’re trying to pull here.. I’m not twisting what he said to look different or whatever.. that’s really what he means.. Carwin meant that life is more than just getting paid, but it’s more about making good choices, taking care of your family, and contributing to society is what’s important.. I don’t see why my statement quoting is fallacious or wrong..

Maybe you just didn’t read it right and assumed a lot of stuff again as usual.

by Anton Tabuena on Aug 22, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Sure ;)

I tried to explain the problem with pulling two separate quotes together as if they were one, but I have no desire to argue for the sake of argueing. If you don’t see it, then whatever. I assume this is an anomaly because, as I said, you usually do better. :)

Ugh

Howcome everyone that fights Brock brings their children into the conversation? Like Brock is a terrible father or something? It’s kind of silly..

I STILL poop rainbows.

I’m really not a fan of either guy, but I still think Brock takes this one. I just hope that after he does they toss him in some ice cold Bud Lights and he smashes them down while straddling the top of the cage….Stone Cold Steve Austin style.
