Watch Out World -- Jon Jones Joins Greg Jackson's MMA Team
From MMA Weekly:
Undefeated UFC light heavyweight Jon Jones is the latest fighter to join Team Jackson's in Albuquerque, N.M., headed by highly sought after trainer Greg Jackson.
Jackson told MMAWeekly.com content partner Tapout Radio, "Jon Jones has joined our team and he's out here training. He's just a pleasure to work with. He's incredibly creative. That he's got so far with his creativity is amazing."
The only downside of this news is that it precludes possible light heavyweight clashes with fellow Team Jackson fighters Rashad Evans and Keith Jardine.
It's also very bad news for everyone else in the LHW division who might have been hoping to capitalize in gaps in Jones' preparation or knowledge since he'd been training with lesser-known teams.

he’d been training with lesser-known teams.
he also trained with GSP in montreal for his last fight right?

but yeah, this is a scary scary thing to think about..
He’s young, very athletic, very creative, and he learns pretty fast.. now he officially trains with a top notch team, so it would be really interesting to see how he develops and fills in those holes in his game, when being taught/trained by a guy like greg jackson..

Good News!
Awesome things to come from Bones…And honestly I don’t see Rashad or Keith getting back on to op the LHW heap, so the the teammate thing shouldn’t present problems.

You don't think
Evans can be a top five guy again? I don’t see him beating Rampage, but I can see him taking on most of the rest of the division, (And I don’t really like him)
Doesn't anybody think before they speak/post anymore?

Losing R1 to Chuck was part of the plan. Chuck was still dangerous at that point.

Come on, he hit Wandy hard several times and couldn’t KO him, the same Wandy who went night-night in the first round against Rampage. And that fight was 20 months ago, what does he have left now? His last TKO was almost 3 years ago.

EIther way
Jones would still in 1-2 fights make an interesting matchup with Evans and Jardine…even with loses. Its not catastrophic…Like if he trained with black house, but it affects matchups.

The guy wasn’t claiming Rampage didn’t hit harder than Chuck, he was implying Chuck can still knock someone out.

Chuck was not dangerous at that point???
One thing is say that he was battle worn and past his prime, but say that he was ‘decidedly’ not dangerous is nonsense. he can always ko anyone with one punch – even now.

I agree
I don’t see how Rampage can beat Evans. Evans is quicker, has as much (or more) power, and is younger. I see them as similar styles, which Rashad having the edge.
Should be a hell of a fight tho.

I cant tell you how Rampage can beat Evans
… it’s hit him in the face. What else do you need? I’m not saying HE WILL, because only an idiot or prophet can say this, but that HE CAN. I just hope this discussion won’t start reminding these on boxing forums, filled with those “in the know”. Plus – how many “quicker guys” have you seen losing to slower guys? What I know is Rampage has better chin then Evans, and in my book it’s huge advantage. I believe that Rampage will take what Rashad will dish-out, and Rashad won’t take what Rampage will lay on him.
by UniversalSoul on Aug 23, 2009 8:29 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

Of course, Rampage has a punchers chance. At that level, it’s a given :)
And I’m also curious to see you answer iiowyns question. How can you say that Rampage has a better chin than Evans? Evans only KO was due to several shots from Machida.
by mythbuster on Aug 23, 2009 11:40 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I could see Evans in the top 5, but not at the top (I don’t doubt his power, but his striking/footwork seems pretty suspect from a technical standpoint). As far as I’m concerned, as long as teammates aren’t 1-2 in a division, the UFC has a deep enough roster that not forcing them to fight shouldn’t really present a problem.

Jones was getting handled (handled might be a bit strong) on the feet by O’brien in their last fight. The only thing that saved him was his reach. Jones’ stand up has huge holes. Best to let the Jones wine age a bit. Being with Jackson’s camp should make a difference but it will take time. A test against Brandon Vera interests me for sure!

And Bowles dominated every aspect of that fight, so I think wingspan isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Also I seem to recall hearing or reading once that it’s a misleading stat anyway because of the way it’s measure. I think they said it’s measured from fingertip to fingertip instead of armpit to fingertip so it doesn’t accurately reflect actual reach.
something like that.
by mythbuster on Aug 22, 2009 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Thats just the standard wingspan measurement they use for all sports. I do agree with you that a more accurate measurement would be useful. Id propose from the shoulder to the knuckle.

it takes into account shoulder width, which can easily distort wingspan. You could have really broad shoulders and t-rex arms and still look like you have good reach.
