Gangsters aren’t typically the most level-headed of dudes.

by Chris Nelson on Aug 21, 2009 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I have to disagree with that--

His punch-perm seems to have granted him quite a level head.

Seriously though: two dozen 2-rounder (with 3:00 rounds) on the card. Four decisions. Sounds like quite a night.

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

i counted 2 seconds from the bell, so yes

by bdw on Aug 21, 2009 8:59 PM EDT reply actions

you know what… if my teammate go KOd like that…. I think I would also organize a coup d-etat a la napoleon style for no good reason and start attacking anything that moved….ahaha… but seriously would nice if someone who speaks japanese can explain what happened there

by yin hsiung on Aug 21, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions

I’d like a solid translation as well, but the long and short of it is that The Outsider is full of hotheads and ruffians, and Kuroishi’s crew just decided to rush the ring after their guy got murked.

I think the sign says something like “no blades/sharp objects.” They also have plainclothes police officers in the stands because of the types of crowds their competitors attract.

by Chris Nelson on Aug 21, 2009 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions

ahhh… ok…. that makes sense, it seems like this is like the English premier league of japan

ケンカ・迷惑行為
即退場

Literally says:

“Streetfight / Trouble Make(ing)”
“Instantly Exit(ed)”

So basically, that would more or less be: “folks caught streethfighting and making trouble will be escorted off the premises immediately.”

by ikari47 on Aug 21, 2009 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Thanks for the correction.

I always see stuff like “no sharps” and “no alcohol in the parking lot” on the The Outsider exec committee’s pre-show bulletins… Kinda makes me wanna go to an Outsider event even more…

by Chris Nelson on Aug 21, 2009 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions

LMAO

The dude that got KO’d looked like a douchy type fighter anyway. Good for the other guy!

?????

How do you reach that conclusion?

Could you get KO’d any faster if you tried?

Are we counting Herring/Nakao?

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

Nah, that one was over before it started.

by Ubernoober on Aug 21, 2009 10:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Well then

Kid’s flying knee on Miyata was pretty fast, but not quite that fast.

Sherwood and Greg Savage talked about a really quick KO at a regional California show a few weeks ago, but I can’t remember who it was or what promotion it was. I think the video cropped up on BE though.

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

by capital L on Aug 21, 2009 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Honestly I’m not sure how much faster a KO can be. Maybe in a promotion with a smaller surface area, so that guys employing the gong-and-dash have less distance to travel horizontally before beginning the vertical journey?

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

by capital L on Aug 21, 2009 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Usain Bolt vs Usain Bolt in a phone booth should do it.

So all we need to do is find out Usain Bolt’s horizontal acceleration, the size of the smallest surface possible, and the height of a 125er, and the gravitational constant. The world’s fastest KO is calculable.

I was told there would be no math.

Find me the dimensions of the smallest surface, and I can get you a number.

Hmm… some of those early Rio Heros events stand out in my mind as having particularly small enclosures, but I couldn’t begin to guess the dimensions.

That is, after they actually got a cage.

That fight that had the guy go through the window is one of the best things i’ve ever seen.

by Phildo on Aug 21, 2009 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Why was Sherdog reporting Steve Ramirez/Darvin Wattree as the fastest KO when Ryohei Masuda/Takahiro Kuroishi beat them a second and over a year?

Good find!

by CSKit on Aug 21, 2009 10:28 PM EDT reply actions

Ah yes! That’s the fight I alluded to above that they were talking about on the SDS. I think they qualified it as “faster KO you’ve seen personally,” but I could be mistaken. There was certainly speculation on the web about it being the fastest ever though, and we can put that to rest now.

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

by capital L on Aug 21, 2009 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I love how they were ringing the bell to try to stop the riot. I’ve never seen that move outside of pro wrestling, nice to see it has the same effect in real life.

by Phildo on Aug 21, 2009 10:42 PM EDT reply actions

The announcer wailing “STOOOOOOP! STOOOOOOP!” made me LOL. And I love how Akira Maeda just saunters in the middle of that shit in his bright red jacket, like “uhh, yeah, you fools need to step the fuck out of my ring now.”

by Chris Nelson on Aug 21, 2009 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

The best part was that all the gangsters had matching t-shirts.

How else are you supposed to see who’s on what gang? Haven’t you ever seen the Warriors? Every gang needs a uniform.

rec'd

Warriors reference, omg.

That was a sweet gong & dash. James Thompson would have been proud. The kid even showed a Thompsonesque chin.

I had the opportunity to buy The Outsider DVD book when I was in Japan. I wish I did now.
Morbidly fascinating to watch small-time yakuza actually put their money where their mouths are.
