Takanori Gomi: "I will not fight again in 2009":
"The expectation of becoming a father is such an unique sensation and I want to make the most of any moment. Therefore fighting isn’t the goal for this year anymore," Gomi added.

Congratulations to him, I do hope he’ll be able to keep up with some training though.

Boo to him
It’s all excuses and disappointment with Gomi recently. If he doesn’t fight in 2009, he won’t ever have a significant fight again. It’s too bad too, he had loads of potential, and the Pride/Dream/Sengoku promotions behind him.
I don't blame him
and certainly he should do this, but I’m not convinced fighting has been much of a goal for him for a while.
That much he admitted after the Kitaoka loss. But before the Nakakura fight, Gomi said that he very much wanted to win and get his career back on track, go fight in the US, etc. I’m sure having the fight against Tractor canceled was a major disappointment and played a big role in this decision.
I was mad when I first read the headline, but once you see why he’s taking the time off, it’s hard to fault him. Here’s hoping we see him back in the ring (or cage, or whatever) soon.

From the link
"I’m going to be a father and I must not fight in 2009 unless there is a change of plans. However, my intention is spending more time attending to the pregnancy of Chiaki (future wife) as soon we get back from the vacation."
It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.
