Nick Diaz vs. Hayato 'Mach' Sakurai in the Works for DREAM?
Promoted from the FanPosts by Kid Nate.
Since Nick Diaz still has licensing issues in California, the DREAM-Strikeforce Alliance are planning to have him fight in Japan on an October DREAM card. Nothing has been finalized yet, but according to Sherdog, his opponent could be Japanese welterweight star, Hayato 'Mach' Sakurai:
Cesar Gracie, Diaz’s longtime trainer and manager, met with DREAM Event Producer Keiichi Sasahara at Strikeforce this past weekend in San Jose, Calif., to discuss the possibility of Diaz competing either Oct. 6 or 22. Gracie said Sasahara expressed an interest in the outspoken 28-year-old facing Japanese legend Hayato Sakurai, but that talks were in the preliminary stages.
Scott Coker said that he is open to having Nick Diaz fight for DREAM, and expects him to be back at Strikeforce and competing for their welterweight title around November or December.
Nick Diaz has also competed for DREAM in May 2008, beating Katsuya Inoue in the first round.
Hayato 'Mach' Sakurai (35-9-2), last fought at DREAM's Welterweight Grand Prix, losing to the eventual champion, Marius Zaromskis, via first round head kick KO.

I remember this fight being mentioned a while back. Then DREAM forgot to pay Diaz or something and then it kind of got canned.
Still a good fight though.

First there were issues with Elite not letting him fight because it was too close to his other fight, then there were issues about him getting paid from the fight before. It’s like a cursed fight.

This is like sending your knocked up 15 year old daughter to “visit her aunt” for a few months.
Still, at least it would provide us with some nice possibilities.

maybe Diaz will have the weed out of his system by the time his SF contract is up and he’s ready to crawl back to Dana & Lorenzo.

I doubt he’ll have to crawl.

Diaz..
Is a decent fighter but he couldn’t hang with the WW’s then and he isnt going to hang with the top ones now.. GSP, Alves, Fitch, would all out muscle him the same way Diego did..
Nick’s a good fighter but he’ll loose more than he wins in the UFC.. If he dropped to LW he would have a better shot IMO.. BJ & Diaz would be a good matchup.. Also the thought of a Diego & Diaz rematch would be the shit !!
He does well outside of the UFC and if Diaz goes back to the UFC then Shields is coming with him.. His best option would be to drop to 155..

I agree that he wouldn’t fare overly well against the UFC WWs, but I think it has been shown that he is far better at 170, than he is at 155.
He needs to stay at the higher weight and out of the UFC, imo.

Maybe he could do a Ken Shamrock and give lectures to the Juggalos – seems like he’d fit in there well. (Not actually a diss!)

He can't make 155
He couldn’t make 160 toward the end of EXC. When he was 19-20 he could fight at that weight. His body has grown too much to drop below 170 (His last 2 fights have been at 185).
Diaz is 6’ or 6’1 nowadays. Who other than Corey Hill could cut that far?

Those 2 fights were actually at 179 and 180. But I agree that making 160 is ridiculous.

I think Mach has a good chance of winning this fight (if it happens).

Id rather see him fight Zaromskis but this definately isnt a bad fight and i dont think Dream wants to give him their belt because of his contract status.
