This is the awesome commercial I heard about? Really?
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.

It was a lot cooler last night… on the tv. but still nothin too special. lol.
I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.

It was completely corny and lame last night. Everyone at the bar laughed at it.
by brandonh on Aug 16, 2009 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It reminded me of a commercial for a bad made for tv movie but it was still better than sticking his head on top of New York City cabs with the “do you know this man?” question.

Well, at least there was some fight footage in that cheesy promo. As opposed to the Showtime norm of having a fighter stand or walk slow-mo through a junkyard or deserted street.

Rogers needs to be te last guy to fight Fedor, this is the one that they should build to on PPV, the working class american against the unbeaten foreigner
by davec84 on Aug 16, 2009 5:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeh, they’re making him into a film lol
they are awful strikeforce, what an awful broadcast last night – the ‘key to the cage’ animations were very retarded. I hope they go the same direction as Affliction cos they are idiots. And Fedor needs to fight better fighters than Werdum… Strikeforce don’t want to put him in with Rogers or Overeem because if he beat them they would have no more fighters left for him. That is just wrong, MMA is about the best fights today!

Don't get me wrong, Fedor is awesome....
But 2 of those guys on that list of the “greatest fighters in the world” weren’t even HWs now or then. Fedor is a badass, but Dana is right. He’s not fighting the best in the world. Overeem is the only person who will give him any kind of challenge right now in Strikeforce and that’s assuming he can piss clean in the US.

I laughed last night when I saw Sobral and Lindland on that list…
besides that, I’m surprised they didn’t add HMC and call him one of the greatest fighters of all-time…
by Reaser16 on Aug 16, 2009 6:22 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Making HMC out to be awesome:
If they get Boondock to do it up right, I’d be completely behind that.
It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

Babalu was a heavyweight when Fedor beat him
and was undefeated and very highly regarded at the time. And has been in the top 10 at LHW for most of this decade.

Question.
It was my understanding that M-1 had the international rights to the Afflicition fights, but not the U.S. rights.
How can they be using footage from the AA fight?
Does anyone here know the situation regarding the footage?
by Lynchman on Aug 16, 2009 6:52 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I'm sure M1 owns the right to show Fedor in Affliction footage...
How do I know? well, because they just did..,
by David_ on Aug 16, 2009 7:00 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
You notice that one fight was the only footage that was shown. Showtime was the PPV provider for Affliction ‘Day of Reckoning’ so it’s probably Showtime that has the rights to show the footage currently.
by who me on Aug 16, 2009 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
They should have mentioned Arona, Herring, Coleman, Randleman, and Fujita. All were damn good when he faced them.
by FlyByKnight on Aug 16, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Good start.
I think they could put together a fun ad using all of the UFC’s top stars calling Fedor the best in the world in public forums (like Randy did on Raw Vegas TV).
by Michael Rome on Aug 16, 2009 6:57 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I remember FSN did something like that on the “Baddest man on the planet” They showed quotes from Diego Sanchez, Brandon Vera, Rogan and Wanderlei all saying Fedor was on a class by hiimself, all this with Fedor training in the background.
by David_ on Aug 16, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
plus the suspense music form 28 Days Later, all ending with Fedor walking to the ring.
by David_ on Aug 16, 2009 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah...
I don’t really get how people don’t see what a great ad this is. It should be JUST LIKE THIS. You tease the debuting fighter by saying he is great and showing him landing one HUGE knockout shot.
You’re not selling Fedor to guys who hang out on BE with this ad. You’re selling him to guys who just happen to be watching Showtime. You run this ad and make it seem like a fighter they can’t miss. Random guy waiting for a movie to start on Showtime who sees this ad isn’t going to say “they’re calling Tim Sylvia one of the greatest fighters in the world?!” they’re going to say “looks like this guy is good, and damn, he knocked that guy with the beard clean out!”

last night i was at my girlfriends friends house. all couples. 5 dudes 5 girls…. right when the commercial for fedor came on all the guys were like damn i cant wait to see him fight. IMO the best way to go about advertising fedor would be to do just that of get all the guys affiliated with the UFC to quote on camera that this is indeed THE best fighter in the world. not just that but come on the list could have gone on and on when they mentioned all the best fighters that have something in common. herring, randleman, coleman, arona, hunt, fujita, are all known names they could have thrown out there. not to mention the girls at the place last night were all sipping on wine and talking about how interested they were in watching fedor fight after all us guys were discussing how bad ass the commercial was

How do they have any footage at all to show of Fedor? Doesnt UFC own Pride and Affliction video vaults? I guess they could show him vs HMC lol

To say that Fedor may not piss clean is ridiculous. Your hatred of him shines through.
I think the ad was perfect. Brent is right, that was not for the MMA hardcore but rather for the average fan that tuned in just to see Gina. That being the case, it hit the nail on the head. Put some names up there that are recognizable and show Fedor KOing someone. It was a great teaser to make that average fan look forward to watching him fight.
As far as the keys of the fight, they were ridiculous. Mousasi by armbar and Sobral winning the clinch game? Should have been the other way around. Most of them were way off.
I think Jake looked like that because Frank was probably just off camera. If you remember correctly they had a little war of words.

Nice promo
I liked it , considering they can’t use most of Fedor’s footage if any , the Arlovski knockout was a good choice . It’s actually one of my favorites together with Hendo’s ko of Bisping.
I hope Fedor gets to fight Werdum , Overeem and Rogers in that order . Three quality fights (I know , non of them is Lesnar , booo hooo…live with it)

About the Coker quote:
Is this how Strikeforce is going operate? Fighter wins debut SF fight, is in the mix for a title shot (Instead of slowly racking up wins). At least Brett has been exposed to Strikeforce/EliteXC viewers for awhile now. Yes, I get that Coker can’t put on shows every few weeks like Dana can, but still.
I imagine the women’s division is going to be like that: Bringing in fighters with good records from smaller organizations for immediate title shots. With no build-up or reason for the audience to care.
On another note, I think Strikeforce is falling into the pitfall of relying too much on the hardcore/internet. Think most casual fans (The ones who will make or break a company) know who Werdum is? Or Fedor for that matter?
by dv8shun on Aug 17, 2009 10:54 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Affliction anyone?
This is the same thing Affliction did and while it made many of us hardcore mma fans happy, it does nothing for a promotion.
I predicted the end of Strikeforce in 14 months right after they signed Fedor, I am guessing they might las a bit longer, hopefuly long enough for Fedor to fight three fights co promoted with M-1 Gobal therefore making him a real free agent.
