Paul Buentello's trainer David Velasquez says the money for Buentello to fight Fedor isn't right, so we'll see Buentello back in the UFC. [1:10 min mark]

Paul Buentello is one of the 5 guys outside the UFC who I would have at least would have been respectable to fight Fedor. The other 4 are: Overeem, Rogers, Werdum, & Monson.

I have a feeling this money issue will come up more often in the future when trying to find opponents for Fedor. These potential opponents know the UFC wants to sign them away, and there is more exposure and money involved in the UFC.

Strikeforce is at a huge risk if they can’t find credible opponents for Fedor. It turns a potentially huge positive signing into a huge negative that makes them look like the minor leagues with a fighter they can’t get good fights for.

I think they knew this was possible before they signed. There just buying time from the inevitable. Sign with the UFC or Retire. Anything outside of the UFC for Fedor now is a joke.

I agree, everyone wanted to fight Fedor while he was in affliction because of the 800k-1.5 million dollar paydays Sylvia and Arlovski were paid to fight him, not for the allure of fighting the best in the world. Strikeforce will not have a chance at poaching HWs to fight Fedor because they are much more frugal on their payouts.

Good to see Buentello back in the UFC, Pat Barry vs. Buentello could be interesting.

Napao

I would like to see Buentello v. Gonzaga, personally.

So Strikeforce isn’t willing to overpay guys to fight Fedor like Affliction did. Sounds like a smart idea but the competition for Fedor won’t be very good if they don’t.

The cost of signing Fedor isn’t just the cost of doing business with M-1. It is also the cost of having to overpay everybody you put against Fedor. It’s a good thing M-1 wanted a “True Co-Promotion” now they will get to eat half the loss for every show Fedor fights on. Or should I say Fedor will have to eat half the loss out of his purse.

Just BE.
