MMA Embarassment!
Last night was a huge embarrassment for the sport of MMA. I posted the entire story at my website...
The entire story can be found here!
I want to know if this is something that you guys see often. It was horrible. The promotion is going to get someone killed!
Quick back story... 0-10 fighter (who can't fight on any local show except this one, for obvious reasons), fought against a fighter from the hosting promotion/ gym (who has several fights, and wins)
The guy who is 0-10 (now 0-11) all amateur fights could not protect himself at all. He doesn't train MMA, he had no corner, no support system, no backing, nothing. He went into the cage with this guy and got destroyed (like every time)
Then the announcer made fun of the guy who lost.
The worst part was the guy who won. He knew he was fighting a scrub and was happy about it. He was all smiles and was completely excited!
Why train and train hard (assuming he does) and take the easy win? You don't get better that way...
Why would the promotion continue to allow the guy who is 0-11 to fight?
It is a matter of time before he gets seriously hurt!

That’s funny. I would have been laughing out loud. Spongebob is a complete moron, and deserves everything he gets. But the promotion is the real idiot. I’ve been to one amateur show, and it was like this, many one sided fights and guys being brought out in stretchers.
That’s why I only support Pro MMA shows. If I wanna see amateur fights, I’ll go to a smoker. And it’s funny that some amateur fights charge more than Pro shows for tickets.
I would say someone needs to beat some sense into the 0-11 fighter...
but that would be tasteless. As much blame needs to be put on the promotion and the other fighter I think most of the blame lies on the 0-11 fighter. He’s got no training, no corner, no anything and he expects to go and win a fight? I’m sorry but you have to be seriously mentally incompetent if you think you can just waltz into a ring and win a fight.
The guy is delusional and it’s crap like this that proves that amateur MMA needs to somehow be regulated. Unfortunately someone, most likely more than a handful of people, are going to have to seriously get hurt before people even start to think about amateur regulation.
That is just pathetic, there is a reason that sanctioning is so important. No one involved in this sounds like they should be allowed to participate in the sport, not the losing guy or the winning guy or the people who put on the event. To me the guy who won was the worst of all, how could you even accept a fight like that?
The bad part is that spongebob thinks that he has tons of heart because he keeps getting into the cage…He is wrong.
When he was fighting he would throw a weak half thrown jab, then eat three or four straight punches.
I have talked to the guy and he doesn’t seem like he is all there, if you know what I mean. The problem is that the promotion continuous to push him on there cards, and promote their own fighters by using this guy! Of the 11 losses I would venture to say that at least half are to this promotion!
Do you guys think I should have left the name of the gym/ promotion out or should I have smashed them? I wasn’t sure so I aired with caution…
Yeah, sounds like this guy may be mentally incompetent and getting repeatedly punched in the head by better competition isn’t going to help his situation any. I think you did the right thing and hopefully this will shame all involved into better behavior.
A wise man told me don't argue with fools
Cause people from a distance can't tell who is who
Is it this guy?
I get why you would want to leave the names out, but I don’t see any reason to “protect the innocent”, because anyone who allows someone to fight repeatedly without even cornermen is a shame. SB doesn’t even seem to realize the danger he’s in, so someone should stop him.
Shameless self-promotion! http://twitter.com/scb0212

The Ho Bag!!!
No, its not. He is amateur, not even a pro. I doubt you can even find him on the fight finder anyway.
Trust me, he doesn’t understand. That is part of the problem!

From Brodie Leap
Every other promotion on the planet knows that he is a liablity to himself and the promotion. If they’re intent on exploiting SB than maybe they should learn the hard way. When he gets killed or seriously injured they’ll think, "hmm..maybe it wasn’t a good idea." SB is in no mental condition to be fighting..probably never has been. This was the 2nd time I watched the announcer abuse him after a fight. All in all it wasn’t good for anybody. Everyone would have had just as good of a time without that fight on the card.
Unfortunately MMA has a sort of shady and dirty underside. I’m from Canada and moved to Texas several years ago just as the war in Iraq was starting. We’d drive out to the oil rigs for work and they were excited about it. Like cheering for their highschool football team after the score was 63-0. They didn’t think about all the innocent lives that would be forever changed and taken and the families being torn apart, just that it was kind of fun to think about how we were going to go in there and “kick some ass”.
As it is with MMA. A lot of people just want a good ass kicking. In the world there are predators and there are victims and there are the people in between that want nothing to do with it. This fight looks like a good example of the predator victim dynamic. Both choose their fate, but both are worse off at the end of the day. The fighter has his reward. The poor 0-11 dude has his. The promotion has theirs, but it’s all rather hollow.
Update
So I have contacted the organization to see if they will allow me to interview them. Yes or no, I will release the names soon.
MMA will always attract some weirdos...plain and simple.
Without getting to much into the “predator victim dynamic”, I think we have take a look at where this sport has come from and just how much it’s changed since the days of UFC 1. Back then it was a huge draw for self proclaimed tough guys to get a chance to show their bar room skills. Now thankfully, the commission and promoters does a somewhat better job of weeding out the fighters deemed unfit to fight for medical, mental or even marketing reasons. At the end of the day, it’s a show and most promoters will try to keep it classy but in the amateur circuit it’s a free for all and we should not be surprized that we get spongebob’s.
The beauty of the sport of MMA is that it forces people who step in to the ring/cage to be put on the pedistool and legitimately show if they can fight. It does not get any closer to a street fight and MMA has killed traditional martial arts because of that. I can not tell you how many times I have seen a kung fu master or a black belt in tae kwan do step into the cage and be destroyed by a scrappy 18 yr old kid with average wrestling and kickboxing skills. so I ask a question….
what is worse?
the guy who thinks he is a resident bad ass because he is a 15th degree tae kwan do expert and steps in to fight?
or
spongebob?
Both of these guys are under the impression they can fight and believe they can win. No matter what, we are always going to get these types.
