Quote of the Day: Gina Carano Talks Strikeforce Bout with Christiane Cyborg Santos

From a technical perspective, what do you have to do to win this fight against Cyborg?
I need to be sharp and be on my game and fight my fight, and not get overwhelmed by her aggressive style. Keep my head about me. It's going to be an extremely tough fight. Cyborg is definitely my toughest opponent to date so I'll do what I can to be as sharp and powerful as I can that night.

What would you describe as her strengths as a fighter?
She's a complete, well-rounded fighter, she's good on the ground and she's good standing. She has a very aggressive, push-the-pace approach to fighting. She's a great fighter, definitely one of the best in the world, and that's what's going to make it so tough.

I agree. Gina is freakin’ tough, something that probably gets overshadowed by her appearance. This could easily go either way, but I get a feeling Carano is going to come out on top.

I’m still predicting a Wanderlei-style finish with Cyborg stunning Gina and following here down for some GnP.

I’m also predicting a late stoppage followed by public outcry at the slow motion footage of gina’s head getting bounced off the mat.

Gina’s going to expose Cyborg as nothing more than an aggressive brawler. Not only is she going to win, she is going to make it look easy.

I’m very surprised that there has been more made about the 5×5 rounds. I am very interested to see how the extra time affects their strategy and overall performance.

Gina’s already mentioned that she doesn’t like it. I’m sure they’ll both gas out it Cyborg doesn’t GnP her to death early in the 1st round.

If the fight goes into the second it will get really really sloppy in there.

Seem to be alot of people counting Gina out before a punch has even been thrown. Understandably just looking at the two side by side, it would be hard to comprehend anything other than Cyborg leaving Carano’s face resembling a ransom note but i really think shes being underestimated, would love to see Carano win this one and i think she has the ability to do so.

Gina is going to end up with the same record that Cyborg used to have.

Obviously

You don’t even know shit about Kelly KOBOLD. You don’t even know her name.

This. There really aren’t to many 145 lbs, so they are the the most notable at the moment.
Wait a couple of months. We will have a bunch of awesome fighters fighting at 145, and I am not just talking about Toughill.

your question is swallowing its own tail

the BE meta rankings are accurate only in the sense that they reflect the consensus of the MMA community. And the MMA community is mostly believing the hype.
Also there just aren’t enough sources ranking female MMA fighters yet to make the meta rankings worth doing. averaging two sites is not much of a contribution.

She is more of a 135 lb fighter though. It will be interesting to see how her size compares against Gina or Cyborg.
