Quote of the Day: Anderson Silva's Manager Denies Silva Is Giving Up His Middleweight Belt
"It's not true. I never said that to Dana. I never said he would move up and relinquish the title. I have said to Dana that he'd like to fight again at 205 (but not permanently)."
"I’ve always said the same thing, he wants the biggest fights possible, whether it’s at 205 or 185."
Per MMA Weekly. Anderson Silva manager Ed Soares contradicts some earlier reports that Silva was ready to abandon his 185lb belt to move to Light Heavyweight permanently.
He also stated that Dan Henderson should have to beat the winner of UFC 102's Nate Marquardt vs Demian Maia to earn another title shot.

good stuff...
I like this much better.
I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.
If Maia can submit Marquardt, then he deserves an immediate title shot. People rightly focus on Maia’s Jits, but his ability to get opponents to the ground is almost as impressive.
Maia’s brand of jiu-jitsu is amazing. I’m with you on his ability to get opponents on the mat. Maia makes a lot of sense as a challenger for the simple fact that he hasn’t fought Silva yet. That said, I think it also makes sense to give Henderson another shot. He’s probably had the most success against Silva in the UFC. If Marquardt beats Maia, he’s certainly got a case. There are some decent (re)matches at middleweight for Silva.

Agreed, though he has yet to face somebody with footwork even in the same stratosphere as Anderson Silva, who might prove much more difficult to takedown because of it.

Nate had his chance already and Maia doesn’t have the resume to fight for the title quite yet(though neither did Cote or Thales). Henderson is coming off a fight the fans remember and is getting old, throw him in there and Anderson can get the Nate/Maia winner next fight.

Maia, Cote, and Leites have had more wins in a row before fighting Anderson than Dan has wins period in the UFC since 1998.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
Wins in a row doesn’t mean a hill of beans if you consider the competition.

in my meaningless opinion
Silva should fight at 205 by years end. Hendo had his shot as did Nate the Great but If Nate wins match up those two great marketing there to build up winner vs anderson. If Maia wins convincingly Maia should get the nod hands down.
Anderson should fight one of three 205ers. 1. Shogun If he loses and the fight can be December. 2. Jardine If he beats thiago. 3. Randy Couture If he beats nogueira.
Also people they signed vitor for a reason, If he knocks out rich he is in the picture maybe vitor vs Marquardt If he loses to Maia

“He also stated that Dan Henderson should have to beat the winner of UFC 102’s Nate Marquardt vs Demian Maia to earn another title shot.”
I’m sorry, but who the fuck are you? Because unless your name is Dana White or Joe Silva then it’s really none of your concern. If the UFC decides Anderson needs to fight Hendo next then that’s who he’s gonna fight, end of story.

I’m guessing that someone asked him his opinion, and then quoted his answer out of context. I’ve heard interviews where he has said something similar, but with the appropriate disclaimers.
I guess that’s possible, it just struck me as kind of snobby to say they want the best possible matchups and then suggest Hendo needs to win one more fight to earn a title shot, as if he isn’t a good enough matchup right now.
Walla walla walla I'm an idiot.
Really? It doesn’t seem crazy to me for a guy’s manager to suggest he wants the best possible matchups and then to also suggest that a guy who recently lost to Silva in the second round is not the best possible matchup.
I’ve always been a Henderson fan. But frankly, I’m not sure why getting a questionable decision win over Franklin and then beating a brain-dead Bisping automatically suggests Henderson deserves a rematch more than Marquardt or deserves the fight more than an undefeated Maia. I still haven’t seen anything out of Henderson to suggest a different outcome than the last fight, while Marquardt looks significantly better now than he did the first time around and Maia presents some unique challenges.
Isn’t it going a little far to say that “it’s none of his concern” who his guy fights next? He may not be able to hand pick who he wants, but Silva and his team should absolutely have a right to express an opinion on the subject.

to be honest
i would rather not see hendo get the fight in front of maia. not that he doesnt deserve it, but it will most likely be a boring fight like the first one. perhaps that is why they dont want it either
Or perhaps Maia?
Trying to create as many obstacles to him getting a title shot as possible.
Not that I really believe that. I think Hendo should get his shot, and then the winner of Maia v Marquardt. No need to unnecessarily deflate another deserving challenger without cause.
Did anyone really think that Silva would give up his belt at MW to fight at 205 permanently?
"Stop smiling you are about to be punched in the face !"
I’ve mentioned it before on another thread but surely if he really wanted to retire from the UFC after his contract expires he would move up to 205 and vacate the belt.
It would make sense wouldn’t it? He doesn’t have a title, he could have three decent fights against top competition and if he manages to avoid a title show when his contract is up he would be able to leave… with the belt he couldn’t. So defend the belt once more maybe to cut down the odds of getting enough fights for a title shot at 205, take a couple of fights at 205 after vacating the belt and then have the option to go box RJJ afterwards as his contract won’t be auto renewing due to champion status.
I’m sure Zuffa might have seen this as a potential issue if they go ahead, but surely if Silva plays it right it they won’t be able to stop him.
Silva is afraid of Hendo. Hendo is a smart fighter. He will not get in the cage and make the same mistake. He learns. Silva is afraid of losing.
Silva ain’t afraid of shit, except maybe smaller Japanese fighters who try crazy shit.

He's not afraid of Hendo.
I just don’t think he sees Hendo as a challenge. He’s already beat him soundly once. He probably feels there is no upside for him.
I love me some Sexyama!
I agree somewhat...
…but at least Give Hendo one more shot before leaving for Greener Pastures and tougher divisions, Silva.
I mean…if you think you’re the best, prove it one more time to erase any miniscule lingering doubt and then go.
