Tim Sylvia headlines Adrenaline MMA IV against Jason Riley on Sept. 18 in Iowa
Monte Cox's Adrenaline MMA organization returns for its fourth show on Sept. 18 with a headline fight between former UFC champion Tim Sylvia (24-6) and Jason Riley (6-1).
Riley, an Ohio-based heavyweight, confirmed the fight via MySpace, though the organization has not officially announced the "Adrenaline MMA IV" event.
According a report earlier this month from The Northwest Times of Indiana, Adrenaline MMA IV takes place Sept. 18 (a day before UFC 103 in Dallas) at the Mid-America Center near Omaha, Neb., in Coucil Bluffs, Iowa, and is also likely to feature Jeremy Horn (81-19-5).
The report also stated UFC light heavyweight Houston Alexander (8-4) is expected to compete on the card. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) spoke to a source close to the fighter and confirmed Alexander has agreed to fight on the card after receiving permission from the UFC to take an outside bout. Alexander, a popular fighter who's unfortunately suffered three straight losses, expects to return to the UFC later this year if victorious.
I'm actually excited for this card just because its going down about 2 hours from my house, so I can actually go to it. Should be able to get a few autographs at the event, and decent seats pretty cheap.

interesting move for houston. he could definitely use a bounce-back win. hopefully it doesn’t backfire on him.
Honestly...
I’m a little disturbed at some of the absolute hate for Tim Sylvia. Maggie Hendricks at Yahoo! basically told him to give up. Give me a break. He lost to one of the best in the world, and he took Mercer lightly as hell. Maybe that’ll make him actually train.

Well, to be fair, my dislike for Sylvia goes back waaaaay before he got destroyed by those two guys …
You can dislike the guy for his style, i mean, it’s opinion, but people telling Tim to quit MMA because he got KO’d by Mercer? Come on. The guy did fight Fedor, the best heavyweight in the world, and then got lazy against Mercer. I say if he gets beaten by Riley, maybe then you could start making claims to hang it up.

He was the Champ at time when the sport was dominated by size, power and aggression. Now the sport is dominated almost entirely by technical knowledge, timing and fitness. Tim isn’t a high-calibre fighter anymore. He has tarnished his reputation. The UFC won’t touch him. I think he’s on his way out of a sport that has evloved past his best potential.
“he was a champ at a time when the sport was dominated by size, power and aggression.” funny that Sounds a lot like Brock lesnar to me .
its even funnier that he used technical wrestling to negate mir’s bjj of his back to win his last fight too hey?
Zuffa has done it before. i.e. Rani Yahya was allowed to fight Kid Yamamoto.

I wonder how many people “released” from the UFC are actually just putting their contract on hold to build up some wins.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
Well, Yahya certainly wasn’t of that number.

Certainly. One isn’t Rickson’s number one student without some serious ability.

I'm jumping off the Tim Sylvia "hate train"
I’m fairly confident that getting KTFO by Ray Mercer brought him back down to earth and he is going to take this seriously. Best of luck to him, but lets hope that a victory over an unknown like this won’t catapult him back into any top 10 rankings.

… but what happens when he loses to “an unknown like this”?

Honestly...
If he loses to this guy… I will feel sorry for the guy. Irregardless, the guy does what I can’t for a living and while I may not understand the thought process this guy has…. I guess deep down I’m jealous of the guy. Despite Tim Sylvia’s latest performances, he’s made a damn fine living out of this sport… I’ll admit that I wish I could but I lack the talent to pull it off.
Guess its enough of the sour grapes.
