Quote of the Day: Dana White Talks About the UFC Fedor Emelianenko Negotiations

"This is going to happen," White said he told UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta. "It’s going to happen today. We’re going to make this thing happen."
...
"I was f---ing miserable, miserable … because we couldn’t make this deal," White said. "I was so confident we were going to get this done because we were willing to do it. We were willing to make a deal at almost any cost.""People from other countries just don’t walk in and jump in business with the Fertitta brothers," he said. "There has to be full background checks and all kinds of crazy sh-t. It doesn’t work that way. It’s impossible; it will never happen."
...
"He got offered a f---ing assload of money," White said. "A ton of money, everything he wanted. He can go fight in sambo every f---ing Thursday night if he wants to. He can do everything he wanted to. We showed them nothing but respect."
...
"It’s insanity to turn down a deal like this," White said. "To turn down a deal like this, you don’t care about proving you’re the best in the world. You don’t want to fight the best in the world. You don’t care about money. How do you deal with something like that?"

This is the only proper response to this negotiating tactic.

this quote is funny. It’s like these guys aren’t even human!!!
And he’s been the best for years. You want to be #1 go to him like Randy tried or like Tim and AA did. No one is crying BJ is going to Japan and fighting their LW, no one was crying for Anderson to fight Mousasi, no one is crying for GSP to go SF and fight Diaz and SHields now that he’s wiped out the UFC’s division. It’s only convenient when someone isn’t in their favorite org. People care more about acronyms than fighters.

lol...
holy shit this is hilarious… i’m gonna rec this just because it’s so dilusional and it’s a great showing of going against the grain just for the sake to piss people off.
No one is crying for Anderson to fight Mousasi because no one is dying to see it.
SF can’t afford GSP and I don’t see anyone screaming for him to fight either Diaz or Shields… they’ll both end up in the UFC anyways.

M-1 Global is still interested in continuing to negotiate with the UFC and while we are fielding offers from other major promotions, nothing has been decided. It is our hope that the UFC will remain in active dialogue with us as we try to find ways for us to work together. All we are asking is that there is give-and-take in the negotiations and that they are not one-sided.
M1 wants to keep negotiating, yet it is 100% clear to everyone that the UFC will never compromise on “co promoting”. In my mind that leaves only two possibilities: either M1 is negotiating with no intention of Fedor going to the UFC in order to get free publicity, or they’re holding out on the co promotion requirement because they want further concessions from the UFC.

I have a lot more respect for Dana White after this ordeal…. he truly is trying to put on the fights that the fans wanna see.
The effort is appreciated and I am stoked to see Vitor vs Franklin. Franklin is really stepping up lately.

I’m not Dana nuthugger, but I think he comes out the better for his honesty and forthrightness during the negotiation process, in comparison to the crap we’re hearing from M1 and company.

you got his name wrong. it’s “gary”. did you really just want to start trouble with such an ignorant statement? flame away? don’t be childish.

Christ, lighten up!
Where did I get the name Jerry Millen . . . http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2009/7/31/970693/what-does-co-promoting-with-the
That same “flame on” joke get’s posted in about 25% of Tito threads and no moderator ever blinks.
It's times like these you remember how much of a fan Dana is away from being a "promoter".

I thought Dana said Fedor sucked and he was overrated? why would he want to sign him? why would Fedor want to sign with a org that publicly said he sucked?? why!!

fedor could beat all the heavyweights in the ufc but...
unfortunately to the casual fan he looks like a puss and is ducking them.
Thank you for your informed contribution to the discussion.
The heavyweights in the UFC have a better chance of beating Fedor than the heavyweights outside of it.

I say we unite and make a site called ForgetFedor.com or something like that. We could get all the hardcores all over the world and boycott any event Fedor is on until he comes over to the UFC and fights the best. I am so sick of this shit and im sure all you guys are too! For years I’ve always told myself and friends “he’ll come, eventually he wants to be a star in the states, and he cares about his legacy”!
Well apparently not! Theirs thousands of people bitching about all this on the web well why don’t we actually do something about it! How about a mass email campaign to M-1 Global?? Something lets just do something to get this guy in the UFC STAT!!!
I’m reading this elsewhere, and I must admit that I fully agree….
It’s time to put the boycott on Fedor & M-1. enough is enough.
I USED to be that guy who would show all his buddies Fedor fights & highlight reels trying to get heads to turn & have a look…. NO MORE!
To put it simply, Fedor is now officially the MMA world’s equivalent of Milly Vanilly!
He’s a fraud. Fraudor Emillyvanillyenko can enjoy his slip into obscurity, I’m done with this piece of crap.
I saw a site were some dude broke down all his opponents,.. Fraudor Emillyvanillenko has seen “more tomato cans than an Italian kitchen”. After going through the list & looking at it, I agree!
The guys an over hyped can opener & he along with M-1 NEEDS to be boycotted by MMA fans.
Fedor is now known as... Fraudor Emillyvanillyenko.

The boycott won’t do anything.
MMA “fans” have been proclaiming him as the best thing since sliced bread and the last 2 cards he’s fought on as the best cards in the history of the sport and they couldn’t even put a dent in the numbers that a “bad” UFC card does. Just let the status quo remain.
"the last 2 cards he’s fought on as the best cards in the history of the sport"
I’m sorry… Did I miss a memo or something? “Best 2 cards in the history of the sport?” Really? Oh wow… Holy hyperbole Batman!

Dana White certainly comes out of this looking better. What Carmichael Dave came out with was likely slightly skewed, but it still showed the extent of which Dana White was trying to get Fedor into the UFC. Plain and simple…. The UFC has given some…. And Fedor has not given 1/32nd of an inch.
I think fans can appreciate Dana White for doing everything he can to make this deal happen.
I also find it interesting to see how easily Fedor has gone from a fan favorite to a really hated MMA figure in less then a week. If that is not a sign of poor management, I don’t know what is.
Saw the whole phone conference last night
When they finally put it on the website. You can just hear it in Dana’s voice how bad he wants this deal done. It’s like words couldn’t express how bad he wanted it. We feel ya buddy. :’(
GSP: I pulled my groin.
Greg Jackson: I don't care Georges! HIT HIM WITH YOUR GROIN!
Watched it this morning.
Behind all of the promotion and bluster, Dana knows why having Fedor in the UFC is important for his company. He can crack buffet jokes until the cows come home, but as Nate pointed out recently, he and Lorenzo’s inner fanboy know Fedor is the best. They’re the best promotion in the world and they want the best.
That said, they still don’t need him. It would be nice, on a couple of fronts, but it’s not like the UFC is in jeopardy without Fedor.

I think that it is quite often overlooked that Dana and the Fertitta’s are real fans. They insist on doing things their own way but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t also thinking about the sport too. Obviously they want Fedor but they don’t need him at all. They are negotiating and giving the concessions they do from a fanboy standpoint not because they think they “need” him for their business.
Fraudor Emillyvanillyenko is NOT the best… 2 credible victories make you the best? He beat Big Nog & Cro Crop WAAAAAY back in PrideFC… WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back. unless guys like Levon Lagvilava, Hiroya Takada, Tsuyoshi Kohsaka, Mihail Apostalov, Kerry Schail, Ryushi Yanagisawa, Lee Hasdell, Chris Haseman, Egidijus Valavicivs, Yugi Nagata, Naoya Ogawa, Zuluzinho, Hong Man Choi, Gary Goodridge, Mark Hunt, Heith Herring, Marc Coleman ALL became top level competitors over night, I don’t see how ANYONE with 3 functioning brain cells can call him the best.
Don’t forget guys like Arona & Lindland who aren’t even in his division!!
Dana doesn’t think he’s the best, he was trying to bring him in the UFC for us, the fans. Cause we want him there. And as fans, we need to boycott Fraudor Emillyvanillyenko, because he has shown that he cares not for the sport or the fans of the sport.
Fedor is now known as... Fraudor Emillyvanillyenko.
