UFC Fun Facts
via www.yorkblog.com
I gathered these from the July issue of Fight! magazine and the premiere issue of UFC magazine, enjoy:
- Steve Jennum won the UFC 3 eight man tourney by fighting only once, entering the finals as an alternate. He fought for a total of 1 minute and 31 seconds in winning the tournament.
- Bruce Buffer made his first appearance as ring announcer at UFC 10 on July 12, 1996- almost 13 years to the day of UFC 100.
- UFC Japan, which took place on December 21, 1997 was a day of firsts for the UFC. It was the first UFC event to take place outside of the US, it was the first (and only) appearance of MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba in the UFC, it was the first appeance of Frank Shamrock and he claimed the first UFC Middleweight Championship defeating Kevin Jackson. It was also the first time we heard your favorite voice and mine calling the action, the one and only Mike Goldberg.
- Speaking of commentators, UFC 37.5, the card hastily put together to feature one of the fights on Fox Sports Net's "The Best Damn Sports Show Period", featured the debut of Joe Rogan doing color commentary.
- John Milius, screenwriter of "Apocalypse Now", invented the Octagon.
- UFC 40, headlined by Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz, was the first UFC event to bring in a million-dollar gate.
- Dan Lauzon is the youngest fighter in UFC history making his debut at UFC 64 at the age of 18 years, 7 months, and 16 days.
- Ron Van Clief is the oldest fighter in UFC history at the age of 51 years, 11 months, and 21 days for his fight at UFC 4, a loss to Royce Gracie.
- Anderson Silva is the only fighter in history to win 9 consecutive fights in the UFC.
- Tank Abbott has the most losses in UFC history with 10. He also holds the unofficial record for most beers drank while in the UFC.
- The longest fight in UFC history was between Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie at UFC 5. It lasted 36 minutes and ended in a draw.
- The heaviest fighter in UFC history was Emmanuel Yarborough at 618 pounds. He had a 418 pound weight advantage over his opponent at UFC 3, Keith Hackney. And he still lost.
I found these quite interesting and hope you did too.

It was also the first – and only – time a fight was won without the winner ever throwing a strike (Vitor).
Actually that’s not true, Harold Howard defeated Royce Gracie at UFC 3 when Gracie’s corner threw in the towell before the fight
Due to Cheick Kongo's atrocious takedown defense....
Walla walla walla, I’m an idiot
Some people might say that winning a fight makes you a better fighter but I don’t agree with that.- BlueberryMuffin
Bruce first announced at the UFC 8 Prelims.
his first announcing gig at the whole card is at UFC 10.
he got cast at a 'friends' episode as the UFC announcer..
then using that, he was able to convince the UFC people to let him be the announcer for all UFC cards..

(the friends episode was after his first gig at the prelims)
so after, he was recalled at UFC 10 and has been the announcer ever since.
hope that helped. :)

This is pretty well-established. Read Snowden’s book and/or Gentry’s if you can find it.
