Card is looking pretty good, although I fear Werdum might be in some deep trouble against a newly horse-sized Overeem.

I don’t think Werdum is in too much trouble. He’s not that small himself. I’d call it 50-50. It’s a tougher fight for Alistair than Brett Rogers would have been.
I don’t think it is. Everyone is underestimating Overeem these days. He has the raw power to submit even Werdum if he gains side control. Overeem is beastly, and Werdum isn’t going to be close to as big as Overeem. It’s a solid matchup, but I still think Overeem beats him.

And with that said, Werdum was a bit flabby for Santos. 6’4" 256 is what he weighed in at against Santos, and it was obvious he wasn’t himself. Werdum at 240 would be ideal, but we’re talking about Overeem at 255 of pure muscle.
Best scenario, Werdum gasses out Overeem. It could happen, but he better hope Overeem doesn’t crush him first.

Nick Diaz vs. Joe Riggs could be for the vacant welterweight belt, MMAInsider has learned from sources close to the fight.
ZOMG!! MEGATON!!!
So Diaz going back down to 170?

WOW. That’d be pretty insane. So I guess this means Shields is commtted to 185 then? Because that’s kind of a slap in the face to the guy that was the 170 champ in EliteXC, not giving him an option to fight for the belt in SF if he wanted to. Obviously he’d never fight Diaz, but the Riggs fight has some merit now.

Hope this really does go down so we can have just about all (thanks not so much, cung le) the SF title belt situations in order.

It was planned a while ago that Diaz would be Strikeforce’s featured fighter at 170.
Shields will be staying at 185 as long as he is successful there, unless he goes to the UFC, then he will drop back down.
If that was the plan, why were his first 2 fights at pseudo-middleweight?
http://www.fourouncestofreedom.com
Trying to get contenders for 170. Diaz and Cesar Gracie posted before the Scott Smith fight that the fight would be their last at a catch weight unless it was a mega fight.
“With a title fight against Cung Le nowhere on the horizon Nick will probably be going back down to the 170lbs division. I know there’s been speculation about a rematch with Robbie Lawler, but Diaz will be dropping weight as he picks up his running and cardio training.
This quote was from May, from Cesar Gracie.
Shields will be staying at 185 as long as he is successful there, un-less-til he goes to the UFC, then he will drop back down.
Fixed – you were awfully close, though :-D

I think they have
that ass backwards. Shields needs to stay at 170 and Diaz at 185.
Confirmed.
4 title fights – http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=9109&zoneid=13
I’ve been pretty big on Overeem the past few months. However, I don’t think this will go too differently from their first fight. Unless Overeem seriously amps up his grapple defense, he’s going to get submitted or punched out from the top.
I’m still kind of sour from the UFC cutting Werdum. I think Fabricio could easily dispatch of Mir, Lesnar or Nogueira (I’m sure this will muster some disagreement), and losses to guys like Junior dos Santos are bound to happen to some guys. It just makes me sad that the UFC was so afraid of a Werdum title-shot that they kept delaying it until he lost to a tough striker. Why do you think they put him against Arlovski/Gonzaga/Vera/dos Santos? All of those guys are known for putting other guys down. So when Werdum loses, they immediately sack him. Goes to show you how strongly committed to marketing the UFC is over having a legitimate, competitive organization.
Nog beat Werdum back in ’06, though he might be able to beat the new, slow Nog. I think it depends on how big Werdum is for these fights – a trim, toned Fabricio would be tough for anyone. The bloated guy that got KTFO via ear-waggle by Dos Santos would lose to Mir and Nog and be steamrolled by Lesnar.

I’m aware of the previous Werdum/Nogueira fight but I think anyone can realize that Fabricio is a different fighter than he was than, as is Nogueira.
But when I say I think Werdum is going to beat Overeem and those other guys, I’m assuming that he actually comes in at like 240 or whatever instead of like 265 or whatever his fat ass weighed against Dos Santos.
256 was his weight. It’s imperative that he comes in around 240 for him to truly perform well against Overeem. Overeem will be a bulky man beast at around 255-260, so he’ll lose speed, but his power will be massively increased from the last time he fought him.

What’s up with everyone completely disregarding the fact that Big Nog had staph right before the Mir fight was in the Opsital for 5 days 2 weeks before the fight? I don’t get it because, to me, that would go a long way towards explaining why Nog looked the way he did.

This is bullshit
Strikeforce must know that Rogers would be UFC-bound if he won. Tell me why Brett doesn’t get the title shot and I’ll give you a thousand dollars.
LOL…Subo and his conspiracies. How about Werdum already has a win over the SF HW champ?
Rogers will fight the winner soon enough. Calm down. =D
Rogers is getting jobbed
And you know it. Werdum comes in after a loss to dos Santos into a title shot while Rogers beats Arlovski and waits? Total crap.

Holy Cow This Card Is Stacked...
But not because of the reason you think. No one is even mentioning this fight!!!
- Erin Toughill (10-2-1) vs. Marloes Coenen (16-3)
That means Strikeforce is NOT giving the winner of Cyborg/Gina any breaks what so ever. The winner of this fight will definitely be the #1 challenger at 145.
I sense an incoming mmalogic post. :P
So Supremacy, you of all people might know. Why hasn’t SF done or looked into trying out a TUF style show for themselves?

Strikeforce is really smart and they take baby steps before they can run. Their current relationship with Showtime doesn’t give them enough time and they don’t have the resources to work on something like that at the moment. ProElite tried to do everything at once and you saw what happened there. Strikeforce knows that its not a sprint but a marathon (quoting Dilated Peoples).
P.S.
This has nothing to do with Affliction so it is very unlikely.
Plus, he has been busy getting destroyed at the UG.
btw, he’s also the guy getting owned by Bo in this thread

I feel sorry for the poor bugger on that site. I dont think his analogy was far off the mark in many respects. I dont know why all the focus on how to account for assets……etc though. Kinda irrelevant. But funny shit still.

“I don’t think Overeem was ever planning on fighting Brett,” Reilly Rogers’ trainer/manager said. “I think Overeem is afraid of Brett. He’s afraid of a big striker who is going to knock him out.”
“If you are under 250 pounds right now, just forget about fighting Brett Rogers because all that is going to happen is that you are going to get your head spun around.”

They will be doing a damn fine job if they are still at it a year from now. They have a good plan for a start of a HW division.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
Rogers would LOVE to fight Lesnar. After all, rumor is that he already KOed him during a sparring match.
They sparred? Last I heard he didn’t even know how to get in contact with his camp to train with him.

Out out, you demons of stupidity!
I knocked him out too, but that was in the videogame.

Reilly added that he was always planning on having Rogers fight again in October, and that he would like to have him compete two more times this year. He mentioned that he was initially surprised to see Werdum get a title shot in his first fight for Strikeforce, but upon further reflection, he thought it made sense because “if I was Overeem, I would avoid Brett too. it’s a horrible f***ing fight for Overeem.”
So Rogers management wasn’t planning on having him fight on the August card anyways, so the ducking comments are a bit odd. I am sure some of that is from their original match up where Overeem had to pull out due to a hand injury.
Some advice, you can quote AND comment on the quote in the same comment without replying to yourself. Your tendency to repost and comment on yourself multiple times makes having conversations with you kinda annoying.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
This makes
100% sense of it. There is zero upside for Overeem to fight him. Let Rogers destroy 1-2 more good fighters and Overeem will need to fight him.
