The Real UFC 100

Okay, now maybe this has already been pointed out, discussed, and even become common knowledge, but I couldn't find anything about it on the BE search engine, so here goes.

I was thinking the other day, as so many of us have, about UFC 100, and how 29 of our beloved pay-per-views actually occurred under the umbrella of a different partnership than the current one. Before too long, I grew curious about what Zuffa's real 100th MMA event would be, so I fired up Wikipedia and got to counting.

Since Zuffa purchased the UFC in 2001, the Fertittas and Co. have hosted:

70 PPVs (sloppily including non-US cards that were aired for free on Spike)

19 Ultimate Fight Nights (including Ortiz v Shamrock 3)

9 Ultimate Fighter Finales

and 1 anomalous fight card in UFC "37.5"

Meaning that the "real" UFC 100 is...

UFC 100!

Again, maybe this fact is so old that I completely missed any discussion about it, but if it isn't, I wonder if Dana or the rest of the UFC brass even know? If this was intentional, I feel like they would be making a bigger deal out of the dual significance.

I assume you are including cards like UFC 89 which was shown on Spike in the 70 PPV’s right? Because technically that wasn’t a PPV. But anyway good research, I had not heard of this and if all your numbers are right it’s a pretty interesting coincidence.

No problem

And I went to Wikipedia to double check and it looks like everything is correct, I’d like to see someone bring this up to Dana White and see if he had any idea. I’m gonna Twitter him but he hasn’t updated in over a week and a half so I’m not sure if he’ll see it or not.

Agreed....

Very clever.

I remember when speculation about the UFC 100 show started up several months ago, I was continually saying, “But it’s not their 100th show!!! It’s a counterfeit 100!” But now I feel a lot better about it…no sarcasm intended!

Cool fact, glad you recognized that and shared it!

So UFC 70, 75, 89, and 95 have all been aired on Spike.

I’m so pumped for next week.

Thanks everyone!

I’m so glad this wasn’t old news- I thought it was pretty cool when I realized it. One hell of a coincidence, if it is one indeed… but I still have a feeling that someone had this in mind all along.

Is the Fight for the Troops included in the Ultimate Fight Nights?

by chrisbboy82 on Jul 6, 2009 12:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep

It would’ve been #16 of 19. The Wikipedia on UFC events is a godsend. Fuck giving Sherdog hits for it’s Fightfinder.

Did you post this on Dana’s vlog’s comment? There’s one that’s formatted almost exactly like your post with all your data.

It fooled the hell out of me if he didn’t. I attributed this to the douchebag who didn’t give you guys credit.

Hmm

No I didn’t repost this anywhere else- it’s all good though. Credit would be nice but honestly I don’t need that much juice for being The Guy Who Looked on Wikipedia and Counted to 99!
