I'm Shawn who writes over at Fightlinker. I thought this would be better suited as a Bloody Elbow fan post than as an article over there.

All of this Fedor free agency talk over the last few days got me thinking about the current state of the UFC's heavyweight division -- specifically where it was only a few short years ago compared to where it is today. I'm just going to list the top 20 heavyweight fighters currently signed to the UFC -- let me know if I missed anyone -- and we can all look at it and say "holy shit" when thinking about the days when the UFC had Arlovski and Sylvia while Pride had, well, everyone else that mattered.

by the time Fedor fights all those guys – what 3 a year? – another couple will have developed into decent fighters worthy of a shot. then there is possible injuries to Fedor as well.

And also what happens if Fedor actually gets beaten during any of those fights? In an age where upsets happen all the time in MMA… dont say it can never happen.

Fedor has two years of decent fights in the UFC if he wins all of them back to back.

Cain Velasquez? Is that a joke or something? Frank Mir? Even Shane Carwin was being out-struck by Gonzaga until he landed a punch and won. I also hesitate to give Randy Couture any sort of chance considering how badly he was man-handled by Lesnar. Kongo doesn’t stand a chance either. That Velasquez/Kongo fight did not impress me either way, and in my mind both fighters were reduced after seeing their performances.

Best HW division in mma and probably of all-time and it’s only going to get stronger because they’re are always looking in to bring in more young talented HW’s. Simply put the old excuses by UFC haters don’t fly anymore all of their divisions are stacked from top to bottom.
