No noe has given him negative coverage for what GSP did

People have only given him negative coverage for his own handling of the situation. His demeanor, maturity, etc.

He has a history of faux-casually self-aggrandizing behavior that some people pick-up on. These people are picking up on it and disliking it.

Were you in the cage with them? What constitutes being “greased”? What specific rule did GSP supposedly break? What was the difference between GSP’s “greasing” and what Anderson Silva did before the Leites fight?

Fans are giving BJ hell because he talked MASSIVE smack before the fight and got merced, PERIOD. Then, he had an excuse for the loss, just like all of his losses. If he cared about the sport as much as he says he would’ve went after Silva the way he went after St. Pierre. I’m not saying Silva did anything wrong but there is just as much evidence against him than there is against GSP, probably more so.

by Rahson on Jul 28, 2009 4:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Well let's see...

by lovingmma25 on Jul 28, 2009 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions

You must be a a very good detective to have found the intent on the part of GSP’s corner to intentionally grease because no one else it, including the NSAC. Phil Nurse made a mistake and from what anybody can tell accidentally put Vaseline on GSP’s body, but according to conspiracy theorists like you guys, there was some grand scheme that only Penn and his fans knew about involving GSP “greasing”. Whatever, Penn took it to the commission and they acted within the extent of their own rules. Move on.

And the reason some people go out of their way to defend St. Pierre is because of guys like you who go out of their way to attack him. Seems to be the “in” thing these days.

by Rahson on Jul 28, 2009 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions

how did i attack him at all?

You love him so much that you can’t see any of this objectively… I wanted BJ to win, but u know what? He got destroyed by the best WW on the planet bar-none. The fact is, had someone else been caught with grease on them, it would be a big deal… just like its a big deal when fighters pop for pain killers, or roids, or when fighters hold a choke, or when fighters hit after the person is out/round is over….. For some reason, people like you can’t see the situation outside of the figthers, and therefore act as if nothing wrong was done… Regardless of whether it was meant to be done (these guys aren’t stupid, and have a lot of experience) doesn’t matter… What happened was wrong, and only because of the status of GSP does it get ignored, or brushed off.

I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.

by Loot on Jul 28, 2009 4:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Nobody’s brushing it off. The commission saw the incident in question, acted and that should be it. The problem I have is people label him a greaser when there is no previous history of him doing so outside of the second Penn fight and like I said, there is more evidence to suggest that was accidental than anything else. Guys like you like to say it was wrong and try to take this moral high ground when you completely ignore what Silva did. Also, the rules for greasing and steroids are completely different and aren’t even a good comparison. But whatever> I knew this was pointless from the get go.

by Rahson on Jul 28, 2009 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

"Guys like You"

If you don’t realize there is a lot more to this situation than the A. Silva situation then I’m sorry… There have been examples of people greasing before too (Militich gif someone)…. The point is the media that surrounded this entire thing became backlash to the fighter that was at a disadvantage… Lets also not act like the commission acted appropriately in this whole situation… Firstly their initial wording of the rule made it possible for people to accept that GSP “didn’t break any rules”… The fact that they didn’t inform Penn during the fight that GSP had grease on him is wrong (especially when his camp had informed the commission that GSP may be greasing)… Dude there is A LOT wrong with how that whole thing went down… My whole point is that it is unfair to attack BJ so much in this situation when HE WASN’T THE wrongdoer in the situation…

Okay. What you need to understand is a majority of people giving him shit for it are doing it just to be jerks. And it’s the “cool” thing to do. Do I think it was funny he talked all that junk and got smashed? Yes. Do I think it was embarrassing to have his mother at the hearing? Yes. Do I have a problem with him filing a complaint with the commission? No. He has every right to do so. But that’s my personal opinion and you won’t see me in a forum cracking jokes on him about that. No reason to. I just think it’s funny people call GSP a greaser when Silva did the same thing, even more so. You just hear about it because Leites has nowhere near the fanbase Penn does.

Maybe he has an issue

with the coverage, because he perceives it to be done with bias against him…He feels like those media outlets put a strain on the relationship by not showing both sides… To this day, there is more people who still talk about BJ’s appeal to the commission than the fact that GSP’s corner legitimately did something wrong and greased.. Anyone who cosgined BJ was called a jealous, sore loser (Hughes, Sherk, etc)… and BJ was crucified by the online community as if he was the one who cheated, just because he lost (in his own words got his ass kicked)….

as long as i have read this site....

I laugh at all the tough guys dogging on bj. How many of you tools have ever strapped the leather on and competed? Maybe 2 or 3 percent of people here? Mainly because real athletes train and you fans just sit around critical of everyone.

I actually train up at gregs in Albuquerque every now and a then, and GSP is guilty of greasing. As a matter of fact a lot more people grease then any of you know. How will the commission know If I bath in vaseline the night before? Just soak in it so my pores are full for fight night? That’s what a lot of fighters do, its not right but they do it.

Bj had his high guard slip all fight, and I assure you GSP would have won regardless I still think its wrong what he did. GSP is one hell of an athlete but he will never have the technique bj has, actually nobody will.

Bj has every right to boycott any website he wants, as for you people that call him a cry baby and post funny pictures yeah ha ha funny funny sure. But most of you will never know what its like to be the mma fighters you are so critical of

of what GSP does at camps, etc is unfair, because we don’t know if you really train there/who you are etc. I don’t know what the hell most of these fighters are like, or the things they do to get an advantage. All i can go off of, is what I see, or observe, and I know that GSP had grease on him against BJ. PERIOD.

The athletic commission remedied the situation during the fight.

They also reviewed the fight and the tape and deemed that the result would stand.

by jemaleddin on Jul 28, 2009 4:50 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Except that’s not really what happened. It’s not like BJ’s mother just went and sat behind him throughout the hearing. No, she took an active role in defending BJ, more than likely at his request, by going on some diatribe about how nice he played with others as a kid.

It was cowardly, hiding behind an old woman after making such accusations. Stand up and state your case, if you really have one. Trying to garner sympathy in such a transparent way does not speak well for your side.

by a tommy point on Jul 28, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

It was also a direct attempt to guilt the commission into doing things they wouldn’t do otherwise.

well, gsp just went out and totally dominated alves with takedowns and gnp, and i’m sure the nsac, dana, lorenzo and allof zuffa(hell even bj was there) were watching he and his corners move. he was able to take alves(by far thw #1 ww comntender) down at will and with ease, while other fighters couldn’t (hughe’s,kos, karo), so i think he totally redeemed himself of what little left there was of “greasegate”. he totally owned the best fighter available, with no aide of any illegal substance’s. now, it’s bj’s turn. from the recent training vids iv’e seen he looks in awesome shape, and from the interviews iv’e heard he sounds toally motivated. a motivated and in-shape bj is a very scary bj. if he can go out and run through a very respectable fighter in ken-flo like he did jens, sherk, and joe-daddy ( or at least win impressivley and not gas) the all the bj haters/doubters will shut-up. it’s your turn BJ!
