They want the station to sound the same. I hate it, but there’s nothing I can do.

I always liked the kinda rambling quality of the old show, but all the big boys in sports talk radio tend to keep a pretty close clock. I’m just surprised they don’t make you do the ESPN thing. Where you make some interesting claim, but only promise to tell us after the break.

The benefits of being on a sports radio station
That last caller (the guy looking to get educated on MMA) I think might show the benefits of being on Sports Radio. Not to say that he didn’t listen on the Mighty WJFK, but having this show on a sports station helps legitimize MMA.
Knowing the Fan family of stations from NY and Philly they wouldn’t put on a wrestling show for instance.
I actually thought that guy might just be a boxing fan looking to take some cheap shots at MMA, but he seemed fairly sincere.

Dana has been pretty clear about Fedor getting an immediate title shot if he signs. Not sure what that caller was talking about.
by a tommy point on Jul 25, 2009 8:28 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Also Josh Barnett in the UFC?! I just don’t see Dana brining in the baggage of a two time roid guy.

That’s why Luke is the radio show host and the rubes are the callers lol. I think it’s a given that callers will say dumb things, myself included.

That is exactly why I only care if fighters get caught. It’s an integral part of sports culture. Can’t do anything about it, even if you find PED use reprehensible.

In addition to my regular job, I teach part time at a college, and I definitely have different feelings towards students who cheat versus students who cheat stupidly and get caught. Cheating pisses me off, but not nearly as much as insulting my intelligence by cheating stupidly and thinking I’m not going to notice.

Great show… you’re a natural on the radio.
Want to secure your job and future prospects? before every show go to every mma forum (or have someone else do it) and announce the show like 30 minutes ahead. (keep bumping the thread to keep it visible throughout the show)
Do this for a while until the show becomes a “staple” in the mma community. Stop being so fuckin lazy.

Not a bad idea.
I’ve been a big believer in promotion through more established media organs that then circle back into the MMA fold rather than trying to come up through the MMA ranks to get larger attention. Perhaps I can meet somewhere in the middle.

Imagine if this show wasn't on a weekend
If I’m sitting home, why not enhance my experience with some intelligent comments. Especially since Luke checks the comments during the show.
Unfortunately I almost always catch the podcast even though I’m in the DC area. How often am I sitting at home on a Saturday night from 7-9? I know its a goal, but if this show was week nights or maybe during the work day.

Works for me, I can click on other shows and download their podcasts just fine, but nothing has been posted for MMA nation. Not that Luke has any control over it, but I really really wish the podcasts were posted sooner. I’m sure the number of people who ultimately download it decreases significantly for every day between the show’s air date and the day the podcast is made available.
by Jahbulon on Jul 26, 2009 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Also, for the love of God, PLEASE make the show available in a single .mp3 file. I’m looking at the other podcasts and some moron posts them in separate segments for every single topic that is discussed. That means that if I wanted to download say “the Lavar Arrington Show” for Friday, I would have to separately download 16 files for a single show. If someone is going to the trouble of putting a dozen plus files up, it can’t be too much extra effort to post one more file containing the entire show. Also, putting tags on the .mp3 files would be nice.
I only complain because I love the show. If it went for 3 hours 7 days a week, I’d still listen to every minute. If there is someone at the station I could write and request these things, please let me know (I’ll be extremely polite).

They cut them up like that to remove the dozens of ads and music between segments. Believe me its far better having them edited this way.
