Thank Jebus. That fight would have been a lame main event.

I smell a Tito.

Can Tito be ready that soon? I thought he jus started working out again.

y do u aks?

If you see Mark Coleman in person, drop $5 on the floor and watch the fun as he tries in vain to bend down and pick it up.

This is why Twitter shouldn’t be used by fighters (or anyone for that matter) as a way of updating what they’re doing. The character limit is ridiculous and pretty much screws up the whole damn system.

“I’ve heard the UFC pulled my fight off the website for UFC 103. I don’t know why. They haven’t spoken to to me about this and I assume the fight is still on.” – Translated into readable English.

Being a former teacher, Franklin is one of the last fighters I’d have expected to see writing in chat speak.

my thoughts exactly

by JoLy on Jul 25, 2009 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions

That character limit is pretty tight.

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

by capital L on Jul 25, 2009 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah, i’m not on twitter, but i imagine this was so he could fit everything in the 140 character limit (or whatever that number is)

by woooburn on Jul 25, 2009 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions

He was a math teacher. I imagine that the meager, primitive languages of man are difficult for his ascended consciousness to limit itself to.

He's also a Creationist

I don’t know about that. He’s a smart guy, and spoke once at my college, but man he believes some dumb shit.

In tweet terms, that is prose for the ages right there.

by toxic on Jul 25, 2009 11:06 AM EDT reply actions

The fight was never officially on the website...

There was a story on UFC.com, but the fight was never added to the official fight card. Maybe the UFC was never really serious about it, and just had it as a back up plan in case nothing better presented itself.

by mburtoni on Jul 25, 2009 11:10 AM EDT reply actions

To be fair

It’s surprising that he’s able to string together that coherent a thought after the beating he took from Anderson. For a guy who couldn’t figure out which corner was his, “i dont kno y” is Pynchonian.

by worldcupfever on Jul 25, 2009 11:13 AM EDT reply actions

Pretty lame shot at Franklin dude…

by Dropkick434 on Jul 25, 2009 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

meh

the Pynchon reference saves it

by Grappo on Jul 25, 2009 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions

How is that a lame shot? You saw the Silva fight. His corner had to tell him to go out for round 2. I love Rich to death, but he got beaten like a drum by Anderson. I’m not saying he’s a dumb guy, he’s not.

by worldcupfever on Jul 25, 2009 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I was more talking about the mangling of the language that tweeting forces people to do, that’s all.

by worldcupfever on Jul 25, 2009 6:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I have no problem with shots at Franklin.

Lame or otherwise. Dude’s a clockwatcher. Boo.

1-I never understood the level of disdain towards Franklin/Henderson 2. the first fight was a very good, close fight. The rematch at 205 makes a lot of sense. my only complaint, was that it was just too soon.

2-I assume the new fight would be Franklin/Tito, and while that is a good match that I would like to see, I don’t find it any more appealing than Henderson. That is outside of teh big ppv draw that Tito is.

3-I have read a lot of complaints around the www about this card and again, I think it is pretty solid, one big fight away from being very good. Swick/Kampmann could be amazing to see. It’s still a couple of months away, so who knows? In the meantime, I am ready for 101, which I think will be super (imagine Daffy Duck, Thooper!).

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

by BJJDenver on Jul 25, 2009 11:38 AM EDT reply actions

I have never understood the disdain for Hendo/Franklin 2 either so I hope they keep it. If they do go with another fight I don’t think it will be Tito/Franklin since Tito has said he needs a warm-up fight and Ace isn’t one in anyway

Main Event

the disdain, for me, is that it is (was?) scheduled to be the main event to a relatively weak card. If it were co-main to a title fight, none of which are possible I realize, or another huge fight that fans have been clamoring for, then all would be fine.

by argyle on Jul 25, 2009 12:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I find it hard to believe so many people are panning a rematch of the really good Hendo vs Rich fight while getting excited at the idea of a rematch of the awful Hendo vs Vitor fight from PRIDE.

by rabrown on Jul 25, 2009 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions

You dont get it!!!!

Who wants to see a former UFC champion take on a former Pride Champion at 2 weight classes?!?!!

Who wouldn’t want to see Pat Miletich vs Hendo?

Not me, I’ll tell ya.

I completely agree with #1. I’m more than down to see that fight again.

The main problem is that its a fairly meaningless fight in the context of 205 and 185. Rich is going for the 205 title and Hendo is going for the 185 title. That, and Tito/Rich would be way more compelling match.

Keep firing Assholes!

Thanks to Bisping's reenactment of the Battle of Cowpens, walla walla walla I'm an idiot.

by Ubernoober on Jul 25, 2009 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Agree completely. Plus it’s a rematch of a recent fight that, while ok, didn’t really set the world on fire in terms of excitement. There are more intriguing match-ups for both men.

by greco-roman airlines on Jul 25, 2009 6:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Could they already have Belfort signed? They could match him up with Hendo at 185

Even if it is all about the numbers

Dana’s got good reason to want this PPV to sell; the mainstream media is watching closely to see how it fares against the Mayweather fight. Look at the top selling UFC PPVs of all time, most include Tito.

by Shaun32887 on Jul 25, 2009 12:46 PM EDT reply actions

Yup, Tito will be headlining this card.

I dont see how everyone assumes Tito will fight at 103 now...

1. He said he JUST started training again, i dont see it being enough time to fight a top level main event guy.

2. He said numerous times he wants a warm-up fight first. Franklin, Hendo dont sound like warm-up fights to me.

Yeah

Numerous times when he wasn’t in the UFC. I don’t think he’s getting a creampuff in this 205 division.

A caller asked what about the main event in UFC 103. Dana said “My job is to put on the fighters you guys wanna see…….. just stay tuned”.

Curve ball?

Maybe the main event is Henderson/Belfort?

by Zack Gobie on Jul 25, 2009 2:11 PM EDT reply actions

I was thinking that but it seems fairly certain it will be a fight involving Rich Franklin.

A little late for that with the news of an improving main event.

I love how

We can transition from a horribly written sentence (presumably to keep it under 140 characters) from a teacher, to Tito Ortiz, who could probably type that up with no character limits, possibly headlining UFC 103,.
