Quote of the Day: Randy Couture on Vitor Belfort vs Fedor Emelianenko

"Vitor has always been tremendously talented, and he's always had a ton of gifts," Couture told Feinman. "It's just a matter of putting him in the right environment to let them flourish."
Although Belfort, a middleweight contender, would be opposing the world's consensus top heavyweight on only 11 days' notice, Couture believes the time compression amounts to an equal liability for both. "The fact that he's a southpaw and Fedor hasn't prepared for a southpaw, the fact that he is very, very agile and explosive and a great boxer all lend well to him having a great performance," Couture said. "It's really a win-win for Vitor to fight one of the top guys in the sport, being a smaller guy stepping up on such short notice. … He's got just as good a chance as anybody. Certainly he has as good a chance as Barnett had at fighting Fedor."
Randy Couture talking to Real Fighter magazine contributor Sacha Feinman by way of Jake Rossen.

Keep in mind that Vitor trains at Randy’s gym.
Don't believe a word I say, I don't train BJJ. -- TangleBones
I’m all in favor of the Vitor fight.
Everyone available will probably lose, but at least he has a route to victory. Monson is the most unappealing fight I can think of, he had a fake win over Roy Nelson and will simply get the shit kicked out of him. Complete no buys fight, use Vitor.
At first i wanted rogers's but come to think of it, I'm really agree with you here..
rogers could be a threat, but he wasn’t training and it will be on what? 7 days notice? he’d be out of shape and be beat easily i think.. The others like monson or whoever will get crushed easily..
At least vitor has been training for a fight, plus if the fight stays standing maybe.. just maybe he could do it.. plus he has a bigger name than all of those guys..
Hopefully though, if it was gonna be him, they’d make it official so that he wouldn’t cut weight anymore..
and if it’s true that king mo has been training, then i’d like him to fight fedor too.. him or vitor..

Agreed. As I said previously with little to no support…
The only legitimate, ready, and marketable opponent I see is Belfort.
It's a terrible situation for Fedor's team
It’s a lose-lose proposition. If Fedor wins, he beat an over-the-hill middleweight. And Belfort has KO power and, as pointed out by Fedor and others, is quick enough to negate Fedor’s usual speed advantage in the HW class.

Where did the “over the hill” thing come from with Vitor?

I know that Rodger is not scheduled to fight anytime soon but is it a fact that he has no conditioning and has not been training. Most pros should be ready to fight when the chance comes up. Why is everyone stating this like it is a fact is there something I am missing?
