Shawn Tompkins Talks Vitor Belfort vs. Fedor Emelianenko

"It's a no lose situation for Vitor. The only problem we'll have to deal with is the size difference." "The chink in Fedor's armor is what Vitor's best at, boxing and speed."

"Fedor on top of Vitor would be the most dangerous. Do we think he can get us there? I think Vitor is too fast for him. We're prepared to go the distance."

"What does Mousasi do for us in America? ...If Affliction doesn’t' stick around, we want to go the UFC. Beating Mousasi does nothing for us."

"We've accepted the fight, it's up to Affliction to announce it."

Chael Sonnen vs Brock Lesnar make it happen..that would be the #3 HW vs the #10 MW. Fedor vs Belfort would be the GOAT #1 HW vs #9 MW…hmmm anybody else think this is f’d? They couldn’t find one HW to fight fedor? Monson is willing he is on a 7 fight win streak and he is a legit HW. The P4P HW champ shouldn’t be fighting guys two weight classes below him.

Even Fedor has said that he is no longer willing to fight lighter opponents and only wants legitimate HW’s. Monson fits the bill perfectly.

I think that Vitor really does have a good cance at beating Fedor but only if had proper time to train. 10 days out and moving from MW to HW is such a bad idea. Tompkins is full of shit if he really thinks Vitor stands a chance right now. Vitor will show up looking fat and pudgy, where will his speed go then? in the crapper that where.

He’d have to KO him quickly. The longer the fight wears on, the more chances Fedor has to kill him. I doubt it happens.

Assuming Vitor is sitting around LHW right now and getting ready to cut down,

if he gets the Fedor fight, he would be best sutied by coming in at LHW and just depending on his speed as opposed to bulking up just to loose his speed.

He is used to where he is at right now, weight wise, and shouldn’t go up from there.

Bad idea…

He’d have to ultimately never get clinched or taken down. Fedor’s power is highly underrated. He could probably shot put Vitor into the stands at 205. I mean, I saw Fedor throw Ivanov in the Sambo Championships, that guy was not only fighting it off, but he was pretty damn bulky.

The UFC comment is the most interesting bit

First I’ve seen of Belfort’s camp saying, point blank, that he has a desire to return to the UFC.

every fighter knows the UFC is the big show and sure thing. Put on good fights and get wins and you will be fine. Some guys can’t handle the pressure or don’t like being locked down. If your content with just fighting in MMA and wan’t to fight the best and the biggest stage UFC is for you if not you got strike force or affliction.

for ALOT of fighters, its the restrictive contracts that prevent them from being in the UFC… but its the restrictive contracts that allow the UFC to control its branding so well.

you can’t build a brand if your biggest star is going out and getting ko’d on a free show on tv or getting injured for fighting on a card that isnt yours. Too many problems come up when you share. I think the UFC has the right formula. Just up the pay a little more for the little guys and i think they will be fine

About that Mousasi diss

Like Fedor is some household name to the casual MMA fan (Sadly). If the fight happens, I doubt it’s going to catapult Vitor into mainstream recognition.
