bummer. think brett rogers could be ready in time? he sufffered zero damage in the a.a. fight i believe.

I think Rogers was supposed to fight on that card against an opponent TBD. If so, this is another great chance for Rogers.

Real hard fight to call too…obviously Rogers has the power, but Werdum has the jits…I’ll take Rogers via TKO.

Intern Belt time?

Rodgers vs Werdum. Or do you save that fight for another event?

That card is getting stripped apart.

Good thing they stacked it with 4 title fights.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jul 21, 2009 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions

They lost Roger and now possibly Overeem. Not saying the card is going to hell, but it undeniably sucks.

And yes, I’d laugh at any fighter that pissed away money for a fucking bar fight. You’re a professional athlete. Let the guy call you a pussy and move on.

Rogers/Werdum or this whole thing is bullshit.

Have you even read the story?

The bouncers started it, then they started attacking Valentijn (hitting him with a flashlight) and Alistair had to help him.

What is Alistair meant to just stand there and go “oh I gotta defend my title, sorry brah”

"Alistair attended some famous dance club with his brother Valentine. Went to the toilet and did not have coins to pay the toilet woman. Alistair told her he would pay a euro when he came back, because he did not have change. Then the security guard who was near by started to get involved," he wrote.

"Brother Valentine saw the incident and also started asking what the problem was. They offered to pay, but by then 6 security guards came over surrounding them. The Overeem brothers were asked to leave, Alistair was already outside when he saw his brother Valentine fighting.

"Valentine still was discussing the situation on his way outside with one of the security guards hit Valentine in the face with a flash light. Three security guards dived onto Valentine and brother Alistair wanted to go back inside to help his brother. This resulted in five security guards in the hospital."

In the meantime, Alistair Overeem was complaining of a painful cut on his hand and went to hospital at the urging of Golden Glory team mates.

"It was only because of the management pushing him to go to the hospital that he saved his hand. When he finally got his injury checked, he was advised to stay a few days in the hospital. They told him if he would have come any later he would have lost his hand," said Boon.

don't think rogers wants anything to do with werdum

style wise i think its a nightmare for him. i wouldn’t take it if i was rogers. rogers is so unproven and untested on the ground.

would be intriguing to see though.

by sonofapsycho on Jul 21, 2009 7:06 PM EDT reply actions

Based on what, exactly?

Rogers would not turn down that fight. Maybe you meant to suggest he should want nothing to do with him. And maybe he wouldn’t have to be tested on the ground. You start the fight standing.

Can he make weight?

It seemed highly unlikely he would have made weight for the August 1st Affliction event if he hadn’t had tried to out strike Mercer.

Jorge Gurgel and Billy Evangelista are expected to headline a Strikeforce Challenger Series event tentatively scheduled for Fresno’s Save Mart Center on Oct. 25. The only thing holding up the fight is an OK from Showtime brass, according to a source close to the promotion.
