Updated: Kimo Leopoldo NOT Dead at the Age of 41

Note from the BloodyElbow staff: This is a rumor that was happily proved to be false.
Some unfortunate bad news being reported over at the UG by Reggie Warren Sr:
Greg Wilson of Newport BJJ Academy just called to give me the terrible news
BJJ Black Belt and UFC, Pride, K-1, Shoot Box, and WFA veteran Kimo Leopaldo died from complications from a heart attack earlier tonight at St Fancis Hospital in Costa Rica
He was 41 years old and a good friend and instructor to Greg.
To MMA fans he was an old school veteran that showed the world Royce Gracie was beatable.
Kimo fought some of the who's who of early NHB:
Royce Gracie
Ken Shamrock
Tank Abbott
Tim Lajick
Wes Sims
Dan Severn
Brian Johnston
Bam Bam Bigalow (no joke)
Kazushi Sakuraba
Paul Varelens
Pat Smith
and one hell of a cocaine habit
And through it all did his best to spread the message of Jesus Christ from his NHB platform and touched a lot of lives in and out of MMA
R.I.P. Kimo
This sad news is CONFIRMED HERE
All I can say is wow...that's not much older than me. RIP KIMO

I don't know if you've used "begs the question" incorrectly
or, by only allowing a “yes” answer, used it in a subtly correct way.
It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.
I thought that was intended.
That poll does beg the question.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
Until this is officially confirmed...
…remember it’s from the UG. It’s tragic stuff if he did die at 41 – wouldn’t surprise me, sadly. Meth’s a helluva drug.

This isn’t officially confirmed. A lot of people over at the UG are under the impression that this is a troll attempt. It could very well be true, but until we get some more reputable confirmation, it’s tough to say.
No one that I am in contact with seems to be familiar with “Greg Wilson” or “Newport BJJ Academy,” and after doing some research on my own, I can’t seem to find anything on either.
Again, not saying this isn’t true, but I really hope it isn’t.
Either way, my thoughts are with Kimo and his family.
Yeah googling Greg Wilson and Newport BJJ only brings up forums threads on Kimo’s apparent death.
Food goes in here
If this is a troll attempt, it sure is spreading like wildfire. The more hours that go by without someone stepping up and discounting the rumors, the more and more it is looking like this unfortunately might be true…but then again, this has all been spreading in the very early hours of the morning, so if the news is untrue, then this could possibly account for no one stepping up and rendering the rumors as false.
The thing that makes me suspicious is the fact that I have heard from a few people that live in that area and they have assured me that there isn’t much of anything in the shape of MMA or BJJ schools in South Orange County or Newport.
We shall know soon enough.

Can someone with a MySpace account message him and get him to confirm or deny if he is in fact dead? Or at the very least make him aware of the swirling rumor which is gathering steam?

How exactly would he confirm if he is dead?

Wow…it’s been a tough month for me. It’s with a heavy heart that I found out this morning that my cousin Kimo Leopoldo, died of heart complications last night.
Prayers and thoughts are with Dennis and family…
I know you had struggles, ups and downs….but the world took notice when you came on the mma scene against Royce Gracie.
RIP bro….
I knew the fighter in this Penny Arcade strip looked familiar:

RIP Kimo.

Wow..
Kimo was my very first favorite mixed martial artist, from the days of the early UFC’s. It’s sort of like Charles Barkley or Danny Gladden passing away for me. In addition to everything mentioned above, he was the first guy to bring theatre and spectacle to MMA when he used to carry his cross to the octagon.
The guy had some major issues in his later/post fighting days, but that’s too damn young to die.

Actually, TMZ is confirming it. The heart attack is unconfirmed, but he is confirmed to have died.
