How Many $40,000 Tickets to UFC 100 is Affliction Buying?

The story of the $40,000 ticket to UFC 100 is now getting mainstream press coverage, from the Vancouver Sun:
Ultimate Fighting Championship events generally cost a pretty penny to attend, and getting a spot at ringside isn't just a matter of having the means to pay for it - you also have to buy your tickets within a few minutes of them going on sale.
But demand for tickets for July 11's UFC 100 mega-event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, in which Canada's Georges St Pierre will defend his world welterweight title against Brazilian Thiago Alves, is so heavy that ticket resellers are asking as much as $40,000 for a ringside seat.
But they miss the real story as to why there's so much demand. Rumor has it that Tom Atencio is passing out huge stacks of Affliction T-Shirt money to anyone who will sit cage side and chant FEDOR! FEDOR! Ok, so the part about Atencio buying the tickets is something I just made up, there is a scheme to chant FEDOR! FEDOR!:
Sometimes the Power of the Potato Nation is just too strong to be ignored, brother. For those of you who don't hang out in our forums section, you missed this recent brainstorm from "LargeMidget":
I was just thinking how cool it would be if the crowd chanted Fedor's name after the upcoming heavyweight belt unification match. Dana would probably shit his pants, and then hopefully get out the checkbook.
The point is of course that this fight doesn't truly determine the best heavyweight in the world because Fedor is still #1. Consider this the beginning of a virally coordinated effort to make this happen.Despite some parade-raining by "My Fight Wiffa Cheeto," our friend "kadumel" took up the mantle and began promoting the idea on several MMA message boards. Though his thread on Sherdog was taken down for unknown reasons (maybe it was too awesome?), his thread on the UG is flourishing, with almost 100 responses, most of them positive — which inspired one supporter (or kadumel himself, it isn't really clear) to launch an official homepage for the movement, fedorchant.com. All from one little post on one little message board.

$40 000 a seat to chant “Fedor” at an event where the sound on the broadcast can be mixed out easily? Sounds Afflictioney

Out out, you demons of stupidity!

That’s the thing people don’t get.
There is probably a 1% chance that the chant gets heard on the broadcast, if it’s even loud enough for anyone there to hear it.

I could swear I’ve already heard the Fedor chants on a UFC broadcast. Can’t remember which one(s) though.
Was it just my imagination?
Either way, I’m sure the UFC brass has already picked up on this story and will be taking the necessary precautions to prevent it.

That was really apparent during Dana’s video blog of after the Machida / Evans fight… the crowd was so ridiculously loud that you could hardly hear Joe talking to Dana in the middle of the ring.

Atencio is a Moron
Seeing as the quickest way for Fedor to fight in the UFC is for Afflicton to fold. The UFC doesn’t need Fedor so this will just put more pressure on Fedor to cave to Dana’s terms.

This is not a bad idea…
People should also chant “UFC, UFC, UFC” when Fedor fights.

That is what is annoying, the Fedro chant does nothing but try and damage the UFC. If someone tried to form a motion to chant UFC wherever Fedro fights, the internet message board community would jump on them in an instant. Damn hypocrites.

For anyone with their panties in a bunch over the fact...
…that Dana won’t offer Fedor a 1 fight deal, thank Cro Cop.
by Razreshat on Jul 2, 2009 8:03 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
It makes sense to not offer fighters one fight deals though. If I were Dana, I wouldn’t give anyone 1 fight contracts either. He should have never done it with CroCop to begin with, but I think he weighed the risk/reward before he did.
Crocop winning a mid teir fight then leaving isn’t nearly as damaging as Fedor doing so in a championship fight. Plus, having CC on the card was helpful in attracting more of the European audience.
I say good riddance. CC is on the downward end of his career, and was never going on a title run anyhow.

When this completely fizzles out, it will be example No. 235804385345 or so that what is considered Gospel on message boards ]has little correlation to the real world.

I’ll drown out those Fedor chants easily, take that crap somewhere else. This is the UFC, not second hand affliction.

Depending on what the crowd is doing, the Fedor chant COULD work. I was at 87, and during the Lesnar fight with Herring the crowd with pretty quiet at some point after Brock pounced on Herring after he dropped him. Me and my buddy started the Lesnar chant where he bobbed his head with the chant and got all cocky. I can distincly hear our voices projecting the first “LESNAR! LESNAR!”….so awesome.

Logic’s been everywhere lately, trying to defend the UFC threatening non UFC fighter story.
Me posting had nothing to do with mmalogic being here, but the silly title to this post that caught my attention.
What does Affliction have to do with the Fedor chant anyways?

Fedor chant started many moons ago in previous UFC events.

Except that he's not.
Chuck Liddell farting into a microphone sells more PPV’s than Fedor in America.

We really, really need to dismiss the notion that Fedor didn’t sign with the UFC because the offer wasn’t lucrative enough. Dana’s opened the checkbook plenty – Fedor’s just shoved it back each time.

Correction, Finkie wouldn’t let Fedro see anything.

For 40k tickets to UFC 100 I’d chant anything he wanted me to chant. Of course at that price I’d probably be asking the guy next to me if he had any Grey Poupon between fights.

Yea, like Dana hasn’t already gotten the checkbook out to try and sign the guy before…pfft.

People really don’t realize that the major reason randy “resigned” was because Dana broke out the checkbook.
by Phildo on Jul 3, 2009 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That whole situation with Randy is conspiracy. I think they planned it all along. You know good and well that Dana would break out the checkbook any day for Randy. He’s doing the same damn thing with Chuck Liddell as I type this. Talking about Chuck retiring and crap. It’s all marketing so everyone gasps when the UFC claims that Chuck is “surprisingly” coming back! OMG! But he was retired? It’s crazy! I need to order that PPV or go see it live! That wasn’t supposed to happen! He retired! LOL It’s amazing what the world falls for. Good lord I should be in marketing!

a fedor chant during the brock/mir fight would be drowned out emphatically by brock and or mir chants. i attended the recent strikeforce event in st.louis and never once heard a fedor chant. more people were paying attention to tim sylvia than him or barnett. no b.s.

Honestly, anybody who chants Fedor during the Lesnar-Mir fight shouldn’t be calling themselves a fan of the sport. It’s needlessly disrespectful to two high-quality athletes who have trained their asses off and have no control over the Fedor/UFC dealings falling through.
Dana wants Fedor in the UFC as much as you or I do. It’s not because of a lack of interest that he’s not there.
by rabrown on Jul 2, 2009 11:05 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think it’s hillarious that people paying that much money for tickets to see a UFC show, would think they are sticking it to Dana in any way all they are doing is putting more money in the UFC’s pocket while achieving absolutely nothing.
by Raker on Jul 2, 2009 11:16 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Exactly! Dana White could care less. A chant won’t change the fact that you just paid $40,000 for a ticket when you could have paid $250 and got a seat four rows back and can still walk up and shake Arianny Celeste’s beautiful hand.

Zuffa doesnt need Fedor and if Finkie could find another sucker Fedor wont need Zuffa.

Bloody Elbow says there’s a rumor that Atencio would like to hand out Affliction t-shirts to those sitting ringside so they can chant “Fedor-Fedor” and a website Fedorchant.com is pushing the story as well.
