Georges St. Pierre's Gatorade ad in Rolling Stone
"Gatorade has taken the next step to push GSP out to the American fans with a two page spread in Rolling Stone that features the athlete alongside the words, 'No Excuses, No Truces.'
"St. Pierre's manager, Shari Spencer, commented about her client's deal with Gatorade, and how the two brands will continue to grow together in the future.
"'Georges' relationship with Gatorade has recently expanded into the US, where he will be featured in a national print campaign launching July 1st that includes Rolling Stone magazine and outdoor advertising in the New York City & Los Angeles markets,' Spencer said."

How much do you think they paid for that awful “No excuses, no truces” tag line?

I like the green shorts though.

Yeah, the shorts I dig.
It’s so cool to see this kind of ad campaign for an MMA fighter. Hopefully GSP beats Alves and continues the gravy wagon.

Not sure what kind of credentials you have in the advertising / marketing realm…..but it’s a pretty respectable ad. I don’t think the shot makes him look “larger than life” the way a true superstar should look. But Rolling Stone his the demographic nicely & Gatorade is as legit as you get in the sports world. I work for a sports publishing company & this is as good as any ad cranked out by the major domestic ad agencies. The ad doesn’t represent MMA any more than Gatorade featuring soccer players that I’m not familiar with. If GSP stays undefeated for another couple of fights, Gatorade will be able to feature him in other mags & possibly expand the ad campaign. Everyone on here should be thrilled about this MAJOR 1st STEP.

Apparently the “thing” in some marketing circles these days is to portray the superstars as downhome, “one of us” kinds of people, getting the fans to relate and want to emulate them. I’ve heard all kinds of talk about how this connects to Peyton Manning’s “folksy” image, the endless commercials of Sidney Crosby playing hockey with kids, and how these images are a disconnect from the over-the-top, godlike but above the law persona that was created for superstars previously. I don’t know, honestly; I’m not in marketing. But from what I’ve heard, that’s the trend.

I like the ad
I just don’t like the slogan.
And you don’t need credentials to evaluate advertising, you just need to be in the target demographic and have a response.
FWIW I’ve got 15 years in advertising/marketing/PR. Enough to know its 80% bullshit.

No Excuses?? GSP was all about excuses after being destroyed by Matt Serra, someone may have a chance at a false advertising claim here….
