this fight is probably 3 months away from Monson’s last fight, but is there reason Monson likes to fight 10 times a year?

Fedor’s next opponent, ladies and gentlemen.

I sure hope not !!! Even if Fedor stays in Affliction they can still find him a better opponent , Is Monson even ranked in the top 10 ? They can get the winner of Overeem\Werdum , I think Overeem would be very easy to hype for a Fedor fight and I also think Overeem will beat Werdum . So my bet is Overeem , definitely not Monson…
P.S Monson lost a unanimous decision to Tim Sylvia I think it’s gonna be really hard to promote him against Fedor
Monson's loss to Sylvia was 3 years and 11 fights ago.
The fact that the best opponents he’s beat in that span were Roy Nelson and Sergei Kharitonov is of more promotional concern than a decision loss to Sylvia in 2006, and even that could be worked with “win streak” hype.
Even though I can’t imagine Monson beating Fedor, and even though such a fight would stand in stark contrast to the sort of bouts we could expect should Fedor ever fight for the UFC, I personally wouldn’t mind seeing a Monson/Fedor fight. Monson is highly experienced, talented, motivated, and most of all highly outside of the UFC—he meets all the criteria!
It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.
LOL
How is Nelson and Sergei worse than Kongo or Gonzaga, the two biggest wins of Cain and Carwin? Kongo was freaking one fight away from a title shot. You telling me you think he’s better than Monson? Get real.
Monson deserves a top10 ranking more so than Randy does now.
This is pure lunacy.

LESARN!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep firing Assholes!
Thanks to Bisping's reenactment of the Battle of Cowpens, walla walla walla I'm an idiot.
Rankings are about what you have done not how “good” you are, that’s why Monson isn’t ranked very high now, Kongo and Gonzaga are higher ranked than Nelson and Sergei because they have been winning against higher ranked opponents themselves. Monson being “better” than anyone is completly irrelevant when talking about rankings, Monson just hasn’t done enough of note in the last couple of years, I mean this is the second time in the last year he’s fought freaking Jimmy Ambriz (for what it’s worth Monson is ranked higher than Kongo and Gonzaga currently due to both of their losses and is just one rank behind Cain Velasquez on the USA today rankings).
I think the losses to Rizzo and Barnett would be more of an issue than the loss to Tim Sylvia at this point although the lack of top talent fights would also be a concern. Monson is much better than his ranking but he just hasn’t been fighting the guys who would prove that and move him up a ranking list, that loss to Pedro Rizzo doesn’t help either.
Good to see Monson keeping busy. A few more wins, even if they are over nobodies, and Strikeforce/Affliction/Dream may put him in a larger fight soon. I could see him getting the loser of the Overeem/Werdum match for example.

Yeah, although, it seems like Monson likes to fight every 2 or 3 months and not be tied down to one promotion at the moment.
