Dana White Has a Big Week on Twitter Around UFC 100

Picture_11_medium

This chart shows the number of people following Dana White's Twitter feed

I've been critical of the UFC's online marketing efforts in the past, but I have to say that they are rapidly mastering Twitter.

They aggressively promoted Dana White's Twitter feed during the UFC 100 PPV broadcast and the results speak for themselves. For comparison, they pushed the Twitter feed heavily at UFC 99 as well and only added about 10,000 followers. During the last ten days they've added almost 80,000 followers.

Twitter is one of those technologies that is suddenly everywhere and can now reach a mass audience -- if you are already famous that is. Thanks to Twitter, Dana can immediately communicate directly with all 133,545 people following him. Its going to be tough for Tito Ortiz with his 5,815 followers to out shout Dana on Twitter.

And poor little Kid Nate with my measly 573 followers best just keep his mouth shut. Seriously, follow me on Twitter, I update that shizzle non stop with all kinds of MMA news. And follow BloodyElbow (1,261 followers) so you'll get updated every time there's a new post here on BE.

Also read weoweoweo's weekly "How Taste My Tweet Tweet" feature to keep up with the world of MMA on Twitter.

Put your own Twitter handles and recommend good Twitter feeds to follow in the comments.

For those not familiar with it

I think alot of people dont know, twitter isnt just something that feeds you news when you log into twitter.com. No matter how crappy your phone is, you can set it up to send updates to your phone via text message.

Thought I’d share

I am working the school’s website and online “marketing”. Sorry guys, no personal twitter for me, I’m holding out.

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

Get at me to talk fights on Twitter... (Reiddub is my handle)

But a word of advice…. dont follow Frank Trigg! He updates his shit like 40 times a day, with mainy stuff you’d find on a yahoo or cnn homepage… and I dont know about you, but I dont need a 2nd tier middleweight mouth-piece breaking Darfur news to me every 15 minutes. It takes up all the damn space on your page.

Kenflo, Joe Rogan, King Mo, Swick, Rampage, Carwin, BJ, Uriah and others post some cool stuff, they’re worth following.

Duh, moron. He was only a 2nd tier fighter outside the UFC. Now that he is fighting Koscheck he is legit and should get a title shot very soon.

watch it..

His main point was about trigg posting too much non mma news.. and it is true.. You don’t have to get all pissy and call him a moron..

by Anton Tabuena on Jul 19, 2009 3:43 AM EDT up reply actions

LOL, funny he called someone else a moron while in the same post saying that Frank Trigg should get a title shot very soon. Isn’t it ironic, don’t ya think?

Twitter is not social networking

Most only follow news feeds and famous people. I couldnt care less if my friend Phil is tweeting that hes at the grocery store, that what facebook is for. Its completely different imo.

And then...

Here’s me.

Steer clear of BJPenn’s most boring as hell Twitter feed.

“Lunch was chicken.” – seriously, that’s the highlight.

I follow and enjoy @joeRogandotnet, @fuelthefighter, @officialswick, @rampage4real, @mayhemmiller (even though his show is fake – dude broke up with his girl via twitter!), @ShaneCarwin (dude spills).

Urijah Faber, BJ, Trigg and Hendo got cut for being boring ass.

If you see Mark Coleman in person, drop $5 on the floor and watch the fun as he tries in vain to bend down and pick it up.

I saw Shane Carwin added you to his follow Friday list. I sent you a message about it on twitter (SC_MagicJohnson). Nice work.

to each his own

Twitter may not be for some people but i like it a lot. That’s how I stay in the know most of the time. I like some of the insights into the personal lives of a fighter. And the general craziness of some of the people too (mayhem and joe rogan come to mind). but anway you can follow me if you umpto. I’m @thirdseal

What is the big deal with twitter? Also, if its everywhere why don’t I know anyone who twitters?

I assume you mean “know” as in personally because you most certainly know of some of the people who Twitter.

Dude, I love twitter and it’s capabilities for endless news but I really hate my phone blowing up 24/7, especially when Dana White is twittering during the fights and I am an hour away from watching them because I am in a different timezone.
