I think the ad I had to watch beforehand was the worst song I’ve ever heard.

I’ll skip right over the “beer drinkers” comment and simply say that he’s right, nobody in MMA is on his boxing level. But how can you expect anyone to be when they have tons of other things to work on? I bet Floyd couldn’t grapple for more than 5 minutes without gassing out entirely.

by Ahhhoki on Jul 17, 2009 3:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

again?he’s already spewed this crap out once and apologized for it. people don’t forget so easily. he made himself look like a fool in this interview and i hope marquez makes him look like a fool come sept. 19, which probably has alot to do with this mma tirade, that the ufc has an event the same evening. hbo ppv shoulda picked another night for this fight. :)

When doesn’t he look like a fool in interviews? He gets so worked up over everything.

"It's not a racial statement"

Really Floyd? So MMA was created because white people are bad at boxing so they created MMA because we’re “beer drinking animals”? That’s not a racial statement at all.

by Zack Gobie on Jul 17, 2009 3:32 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

I love that.

In what fucking way is that not a racial statement? That’s the fucking definition of a racial statement!

Unfortunately

our current social climate allows minorities to say things like this and get applauded for speaking the truth, while the majority gets stoned in town square for the same.

it’s disgusting.

Dana White: UFC isn’t worried about Mayweather PPV

“Big fights sell. This next fight with Floyd is not a big fight. I’m not very interested in that fight.”

“Floyd Mayweather is pound-for-pound the best fighter in the world right now. I think he’s that good (but) he’s not a superstar. Floyd doesn’t sell. Floyd plus another great fighter sells. You need two good fighters that people really want to see. It’s not a fight people want to see.”

Floyd Mayweather is pound-for-pound the best fighter boxer in the world right now.

Fixed. He’s an incredible boxer, but once he can stuff a takedown, then let’s talk about being a fighter.

Floyd has not fought since Dec 2007 (KO in 10th vs Ricky Hatton). He is not the p4p king any longer – Manny Paqcuiao is. After Floyd’s last fight, Manny has fought and beaten Marquez, de la Hoya and Hatton. Sure, Floyd claims he’s still the p4p king because no-one has “dethroned” him, but by that standard Rocky Marciano would still be the HW champ.

If PBF actually stepped into a cage he would get on his bike and cycle around the cage all fight long….. Miguel Torres would get all up in Floyd’s ASSSSSS

That “blacks and hispanics” comment was fucking retarded. I hate that guy, he never has anything good to say about anything. He’ll forever duck Manny cause he knows he’ll get his ass handed to him and trashes mma cause reality is he’ll never fight an mma fighter.

Sad part is, in the end he’ll end up just like his father. And that’s not a pretty sight.

Manny would slaugher Floyd.

bdw above was right, floyd did the same trash talk about mma to hype his last fight, then renegged on his words/statements, saying he respected mma fighters. it must suck to know that you’re the best in the world at what you do…but that a high school/collegiate level wrestler has a pretty decent chance at beating you if he takes you down one time…..

Floyd is incredible at what he does,

but I think he’s no longer the best in the business. Manny is just unstoppable now that he’s combined all of his talents into a whirling maelstrom of Filipino death.

Put his skinny ass in a cage he will get owned. Torres at 135 would beat him senseless.

by pitbull187 on Jul 17, 2009 5:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

MMA is closer to fighting then boxing hence Ultimate Fighting. Boxing is just stand up and fancy ducking and dodging. Real fight you will get taken down and pummeled

by pitbull187 on Jul 17, 2009 5:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I get your point but,

MMA isn’t much closer to real fighting. In a real fight, eyes, groin, fingers, throat, etc. are all legal; folks are usually armed in some fashion; there isn’t a ref; and it ain’t usually one on one.

MMA is a combat sport. I don’t think that boxing deserves any derision because their practitioners wouldn’t fair too well in a real fight (that said, when there are multiple attackers, it’s probably better to use strikes than get all fancy with your takedowns and grappling).

MMA is much closer to “real fighting” (I love how we bandy this term around but never bother to define it). Boxing is strictly punching – there are no historical, truly “martial” arts that have such a limited skill set because it’s suicidal. If a real fight has no rules, then the fewer rules the combat sport uses, the closer it is to the real thing. In a fight-club style scenario, where the only rule was 1v1, the MMA fighter would win most every time.

With the introductions of weapons, multiple assailants, etc, then either run away or pray for superpowers.

This might be true, but my point wasn’t that MMA wasn’t closer. My point was even though MMA is closer, it’s still lightyears away from real fighting. Analogy: sure, the Las Vegas is closer to the east coast than Los Angeles, but that’s not to say that it’s anywhere near it.

I apparently overlooked “much” when I read it last night. So that kinda-sorta changes its meaning…[does dance to distract from being wrong]

Wow serious racism here but he gets away with it? I wish an MMA fighter would come out and drop some knowledge on his ignorant ass!

I can’t stand when boxers say they are the best athletes and the best fighters. Damnit you are just boxing! His “I made more money thats why I’m better” is just plain stupid as well. Get over it, you fought ODLH, those were his numbers not yours! Nobody wanted to see you win!

Yo, Mayweather…Boxing is getting trashed by MMA everysingle year when it comes to revenue you stupid fuck!!!! Someone hold me back!

*kick to da liver and then a rear naked choke so he can be put to sleep.

You do that with animals, you don’t do that with humans…

What, repeatedly take shots strait to the dome until your brain turns to mush? God I hope Marquez beats his running ass!

Glad someone else caught that.

Those Slavs are pretty much the ultimate ‘white people.’ Strong Nordic blood combined with centuries of fighting it out in the least hospitable climes in Asia makes for some badass dudes.

And some freakin’ hot women, lemme tell ya.

by brad23 on Jul 17, 2009 9:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

For one that was racist as hell. Second get in a cage Floyd you will get smashed by any decent grappler, shit a good wrestler would crush him. Yeah he’s a great boxer, but in boxing your not being kicked, kneed, elbowed, choked, and what ever other submission you can throw out there. God the shit he says pisses me off. He would get smashed in a mma fight and he knows it. Your fucking one dimensional Floyd.

by attgnp on Jul 17, 2009 11:33 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

“White people suck at boxing, so they had to make a new sport” Really what about the Klitchkos and Kelly Pavlik? You guys saying he’s not a fighter are dead on. I have 8 amateur MMA bouts under my belt, i’m not even a pro and I would literally bet my life that in an umarmed street fight I would absolutley MAUL him…..I’m gonna take a quote from Floyd here….“Not to be racist or anything but……..” I WOULD BEAT THE FUCKING BLACK OFF HIM, no doubt!

by MMANut25 on Jul 18, 2009 2:40 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You know why you never see any bobbing and weaving in mma? Cause that will get your fucking head kicked off in a real fight!

by MMANut25 on Jul 18, 2009 2:42 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Not to rain on your parade, but some of the best MMA fighters do use head movement – which is what bobbing and weaving is – to avoid getting punched. For example, Couture kept his head moving through all five rounds against Sylvia – and Timmeh couldn’t punch him in the head.

by lhasafi on Jul 18, 2009 5:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes head movement is a given in any combat sport, and is great to avoid damage. But all that fancy weaving is not applicable to mma because it leaves you very vulnerable to being kicked in the face!

by MMANut25 on Jul 19, 2009 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Saying boxing is a real sport and MMA isn't...

..is like saying the home run derby is a real sport, but baseball sucks.
