UFC 100 Was Awesome Yet Was Still Missing Something...
A while back I posted a Fanpost about things I would like to see at UFC 100. Well, UFC 100 has come and gone and even though they didn't have many surprises I still loved it. I know it wasn't just me that thought something special was missing from the show because I've read others say the same. Yes, it was an overall great show but, something was missing. Here's what I would have loved for Dana and Co to have done.
Singing of The National Anthem In The Main Event
I dunno, to me this was a given. Get a huge popstar from the US since they are both Americans and do the damn thing. All major sporting events do this and UFC dropped the ball.
Randy Couture Should Have Been Guest Commentator
Yes I love our same ole' usual Goldie and Joe combo but nothing beats the 3 of these guys doing the broadcast. I missed him there that night. Damnit, Dana! Or maybe he just didnt want to... >:(
Buffer 180 and 360 Should Have Been Televised
Need I say more? He's never going to do it again. I could have at least saved it on my DVR in Teh HDzzzz!!!1
The Guys Should Have Worn A Tux.
At least a tux with a tie instead of bowtie. When I saw Rogan and his striped shirt I just rolled my eyes. How many times has he worn that shirt now? lol
No New Intro, Same Ole' Song and Dance Gladiator
Goodness gracious, they could have at least remixed it or something!
New HOF's
They should have at least shown a nice clip of Liddell and Masks HOF inductions...
No New Belts
I know I know, a lot of you like the current ones. I just think they look cheezy with the big ass UFC Logo. They also don't have the weight classes on there. IMO the Strikeforce belt looks better. Tsk Tsk.
Celebs Where Art Thou?
You just KNOW there were more famous people than Jason Statham in the crowd. UFC needs to show the casuals that everyone even famous people are crazy about UFC!

One more
Dana should have sucked it up and brought Big John back for the main event. Zuffa couldn’t afford for more Mazzagatti awkwardness in the rematch and John would have guaranteed bad reffing wouldn’t have mucked things up. I was so convinced it was going to happen based on my stupid hunch and I was pretty dissapointed when I saw Herbie standing there

Damn that evil Dana.
How dare he not force the NSAC to give Big John a license and assign him to work UFC 100.

Not to mention Big John has not even applied for a license in Nevada.

I saw an interview where John said that it’s up to Dana and the UFC as to whether he refs there again or not. It certainly isn’t Dana’s job to decide who refs, but he’s influential and if he says someone’s out I guess that’s how it goes.
I totally agree, Big John was the only face I recognized when I got back into the UFC about 4 years ago. It would’ve been beautiful and poetic to have had a little montage with him in his parachute pants reffing the early shows, doing his great stoppages. Damn. That would’ve been nice.

I could do without the national anthems at sporting events – I’ve never understood why they do it at all. What does nationalism have to do with sports, especially when the contestants are from the same country?

I’ve never really “got it” either. I’m sure there is some realy cool origin to the singing of the NA at sporting events, but its just basically done out of routine now more than anything. I really don’t mind that it was not done here.

I don’t know, the National Anthem is supposed to be in all major events and this was a major one. Thats all I was getting at.

Brock should have celebrated Steve Austin style in the middle of the octagon with a couple of cold Coors.

A lot of good points in this article. Three things to add:
1) It should have gone 4 hours. They could have fit in a bunch of extras like HoF clips and had 6 main card matches, plus they probably could also have fit in Tom Lawlor choking out CB Dolloway (and Lawlor’s hilarious entrance). Brock Lesnar would have also definitely been the last match on the card, instead of Fitch being in a swing match.
2) A big-ass screen over the entrance and an entrance ramp or stairway ala Pride and Dream. Those totally help get across a larger-than-life atmosphere.
3) Goddammit there weren’t any truly great matches! This is one more reason I wish the UFC would merge with the WEC. They’d have a higher ratio of good-to-bad matches. Torres and Lesnar on the same card would be fucking amazing.
Also, I don’t think a national anthem would be necessary. Those honestly come across as cheesy to me in Dream.

That is really what it comes down to here. The match-ups, while good, weren’t mind-blowing for the simple fact that they all went as planned for the most part. It wasn’t as great of an event as it could have been, and I find it funny how MSM thinks this is the best the UFC can do.

National anthem should be nowhere near the UFC
If expansion plans are what they have in mind. They want to promote it as an international sport, not an American company.
Could just as easily have been two non american fighters in the mian event.

TUXES
Thank you for pointing this out. It was the first thing I noticed on the broadcast and it immediately started me off wrong.

Yup I had been talking about it so basically the whole room was waiting for the camera to get on Goldie and Rogan. Utter fail lol. This is UFC 100, man!

I think they were pretty worried about running out of time. It would have been great if it could have been 4 hours but I dunno if the PPV contract allows that. Plus that might have been a little long for casual/new fans.
Also imagine how stupid it would be to have to listen to two national anthems while waiting for the big fight.
I dislike Matt Hughes and Twidder.

It would have been great if it could have been 4 hours but I dunno if the PPV contract allows that.
No PPV provider in their right mind would complain. I doubt such specific language would be written into the contract but if the UFC wanted 4 hours, they would get 4 hours. All the PPV distributors like In Demand and cable and satellite outlets cares about is the bottom line, and UFC is their top money earner. Also, Wrestlemania is 4 hours every year, and it’s never created any problems.

I just thought about that. I forgot WM is always 4 hours. But its also more expensive lol. They shouldve done 4 hours dangit!

This is in no way, me complaining about 100. It was an absolutely solid event, but it didn’t feel any different than most UFC events.
It should have been 4 hours, they should have had a better HOF ceremony in the octagon and they should have shown more fights (thus the 4 hours).
If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

I agree with your
points. My only problem is the more fluff we get the less fight time we have. rec’d

Thanks. Yeah like someone above already posted. It felt like any other event. Awesome, but…same.

National anthems can’t be done because of the people that go to UFC events. It isn’t likely, because GSP is such a fan favorite, but I’d say the odds of a non-US national anthem getting booed are much higher at a UFC event than it would be at any other sporting event, and that’s just not something that needs to happen/be on TV.

i heard randy was back at home spending time with his son before he started training for Nog…thats why he wasn’t there.
