Quotes of the Day: Kimbo Slice Talks TUF 10

"I'm gonna fight whether it's in the house, in the cage, in the ring. I'm a fighter dude, I'm not gonna have a [expletive] disrespect me. In no case whatsoever. In the house or in jail. I'm gonna be me and I'm gonna stand my ground."
"I wouldn't want to get thrown out (of the house) that way. If that becomes my only fight then god [expletive] we gonna fight."
Kimbo Slice talking to Steve Cofield.
"I kind of will always be the underdog, no matter who I fight.
"These guys have been doing it 10 years or their whole lives, and then you got a guy coming off the streets trying to prove himself. But I'm out here to prove that I can fight with the best the UFC has.
"(If someone pulls a prank similar to stunts from past shows on him) there's gonna be gun play, but fortunately for them I couldn't bring my pistol (in the house). That's a whole another level. Silver bracelets (handcuffs) if you feel me."
Kimbo Slice talking to the Las Vegas Sun.
I can't help myself, I'm really excited about the next season of the Ultimate Fighter. Kimbo is really the least of it. The UFC really outdid themselves by signing up some of the best heavyweight prospects in the country (and a couple of proven commodities too) for this season. I'm actually rooting for Kimbo because I think he has almost no chance -- too small, too old, very limited skill set -- and he seems like a decent guy not entirely awful person.

Wow this is going to be nuts. Everyone is going to try to fight him first so they can say the beat Kimbo

Really? Seems like a decent guy- this as he’s talking about shooting someone with a pistol for pulling a prank on him? God I hate all the ghetto posturing…

well there is that
how about, there’s something human about him that makes me not want to see him get crushed.

Well, he is at least trying to become legitimate- and that I can respect. I suppose the saying “You can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy” applies here.
by grb on Jul 15, 2009 11:29 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Is he trying to become legit?
And by that I assume you mean a legit fighter, because if he is, he has had amply opportunity by this point to get some good training by quality people.
Hell, I don’t like Bas Rutten the commentator, but I’m sure he was head and shoulders better than any training that Kevin had had prior to that, but even Bas felt the need to walk away from him …for some vaguely articulated reasons.
So I have to question his real goal of achieving legitimacy as a fighter.

take it from those who were actually with him inside the house.. and from those who knew him personally before judging him..
TUF 10 Preview: Contestants Talk About their Experience
Marcus Jones: “I actually prefer MMA [over pro football]. There’s not as much money involved, but you wake up, you’re doing something that you love, you’re motivated to train. You just look forward to doing it.”
Kimbo Slice: “It was an opportunity that was presented. Somebody knocked on the door and I answered. (It was) the opportunity to fight on that level of the UFC, to prove myself as ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ That’s what it’s about.”
Demico Rogers: "The one thing I can say about him is that he’s absolutely nothing like how people will think. He’s the nicest, happiest, most friendly guy. He’s like a giant, scary cage-fighting teddy bear."
Roy Nelson: “I’m not the favorite. I’m just the fat guy… Ability-wise, [Kimbo] is probably one of the better fighters there.”

Roy, it doesn’t matter if you’re fat – you’re the favorite, and if you lose it’s a choke job.

I don't really have any problem with Kimbo
But if Roy Nelson lost to Kimbo I’m going to be incredibly disappointed.
It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

I can’t help but get excited about this season myself, but to be honest, I’m more looking forward to Rashad and Rampage rather than Kimbo. I thought Season 9 was amazing, so I’m hoping Season 10 lives up to the hype.
And what does he mean by “gun play,” exactly? Like, lasertag? Nerf guns? I guess it could be entertaining watching a house full of grown men try to contain their aggression through children’s toys, haha.

Not a fan of reality tv in the least bit. Is this the season I should start watching? There’s quite a few recognizable names, plus the Kimbo factor.

If u are ever gonna watch this would be the one, there is some actual legitimate talent, two coaches who don’t like each other even before it starts, oh, and that Kimbo guy.

Just wondering whether or not the show will be one giant joke about Rampage’s balls.

Kimbo knows he is never going to be top 10 in any weight class thats why he is always talking.
He is a marketing machine, he does not give a shit about the sport, but Dana knows he is worth money and can be used to make money, so he is falling into the trap of promoting someone who is only promoting themselves.
He is to MMA what Butterbean was to boxing. Just a sideshow spectacle capable of drawing an audience of people who didn’t care about professional technique and only want to see some kind of freakshow that is barely related to the sport.
by DirtyML on Jul 16, 2009 2:34 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don't think Dana is falling into any kind of trap here.
He is providing kevin the opportunity to either prove Dana right, that Kevin isn’t shit, or actually become a legit fighter and be under contract to the UFC where he will bring in a ton of money.
Yeah, terrible trap that Dana has fallen into there.

You have to give Kimbo credit for going on the Ultmate Fighter. His chances of winning are slim to none, but it doesn’t matter. As long as he get face time than he is a success.

You know, I thought he was trying to legitimize himself as a mixed martial artist and get away from the “street persona”. Those quotes tell me otherwise. Sounds like a guy caught between 2 worlds. As we know, that always ends badly.
Just the same, I’m watching this season. I gotta see if he gets his bread.

I know a few guys..
Who would absolutely snap if someone pissed in their food…I mean, on a personal level, I would definitely fight someone for that shit… Like… people don’t all come from the backgrounds…. and he is obviously being brash, and exaggerating about gun play… but I understand the sentiments of being pissed the fuck off if someone pissed in my food or some other outrageous “frat-house” bullshit…. he just needs to choose his words more carefully.. lol.

See heres the problem
with your friends, if they were eating your food and you didn’t like it, then pissed in your own food(which is exactly what happened btw) how can they be mad at you for doing it? It wasn’t their food to begin with.

I hated when Kimbo was being billed in the mainstream as the ‘face of MMA’, but I’m looking forward to seeing him on TUF— the guy’s obviously got an entertaining personality, and if he wants to get anywhere he’ll have to beat some legit prospects, though I find it hard to imagine he could get past guys like BIg Country.

I've never
really bought into the whole Kimbo hype. It appears though that he’s trying to come off as the high school bully type of guy. Seriously though, what the hell is with the pistol comments, is he trying to sound like a tool or is it just how he is. Either way he’s a one dimensional fighter that was babied and spoon fed opponents that he was going to beat. Now we’ll actually see what Kevin is all about.
